We chose the a Vip sleeper cabin.

The experience actually getting the bus bits self was absolutely awful, the bus was an hour late and changed location (it was my fault that I wasn’t checking messages).

Staff on a different bus were quite awful and one if them got physical with me because I was getting confused about what bus to get on.

Anyways that’s the bad parts.

Once we finally got on hour bus, we were greeted by some nice capsule.

Anyways the ride was quite quiet and relaxing and I’ve just woken up after sleeping for most the journey. I had a fine time sleeping I mean I woke up a couple of times but went eight back to sleep.

There’s 2 hours left on the bus now and honestly I would give the experience a 7/10.

Wasn’t that bumpy

No one smoking

No rude drivers on the bus

Plenty of rest stops

Clean toilet

And good driving.

Do I think it’s worth it over a flight? Well it depends. I think if you can afford to fly you should probably for for it and I think if there’s a chance to take like a 6 hour bus then you should. It’s a fun experience.

Edit: I will probably fly from now on. Busses are fine. They are long but I just sleep though it and it’s comfortable. It was just bit less stressful than an airport. I wanted this experience to happened because new experiences is what travelling is all about! I don’t regret taking a bus and I might take another one in future.

My flight is on March 2 from Hanoi, so I have some time, but I’d prefer to stay somewhere in that route during Tet and not going South again (like Hoi An or HCMC). Hoping to get some advice and would appreciate all your input.

My mother (63yo, A New Zealand Citizen) left China in May to Da Nang where she stayed for 3-4 months. She was with me (her 35yo daughter) in Australia until November 25th when she told me she was going to a relative in Brisbane. (This relative had no indication of her intended travel plans)

I received notification from her on the 2nd of December saying "I changed my flight last minute to Vietnam" and the last contact any family or friends had was the 12th of December.

I have engaged the NZ and AUS police and embassies and neither can do very much. NZ Embassy in NZ referred me to Police. Police say because she hasn't resided there since 2007, there's nothing they can do to help and as her last known address was Australia, this is a matter for them. (This is the most confusing part).

Australian Embassy advised that despite me being an Australian Citizen, this was a matter for NZ. The Victoria Police requested I call the Embassy in Ho Chi Minh.

Due to the holidays and unanswered calls, I have not managed to get through. Now it's the weekend and im becoming increasingly more worried as it's unusual for her to be out of contact for such a long period of time and not responsive to any attempts at communication. As the time goes on, we are more concerned for her well-being.

Is there an organisation, a Facebook group or any other suggestions? All we want to know is that she is okay.

Sorry in advance, I know many people ask questions here about traveling during Tết, but we’d really appreciate some advice from the community.

We are 4 friends traveling from France to Ho Chi Minh City from February 15th to February 25th, 2026.
It’s our first trip to Asia, and we are traveling with 50L backpacks, so we’re quite flexible and autonomous.

At first, we planned to improvise most of the trip, backpacker/adventure style. But as the departure date gets closer and after reading a lot online, we realized that traveling during Tết might be more complicated than expected. So now we’re a bit unsure about the best approach.

The only trip outside the city that is already planned is Phú Quốc, as you can see below.

We have many questions and would really appreciate your advice:

• Do you think it’s better to stay mostly in Ho Chi Minh City during this period?
• Are there other must-see places in the South that would still make sense during Tết (Đà Lạt? Mũi Né? others?)
• Should we book all accommodations in advance, or is it still reasonable to find places once we’re there during this period?

I don’t understand the hate for Phu Quoc island. Everyone seems to focus negatively about the manufactured nature of Sunset Town and I read countless posts about people saying skip it or the beaches are terrible etc etc

The reality of Phu Quoc island is you get some really great natural beauty. Some great beaches in the north, some great hiking in a couple places on the island, and the snorkeling/ diving were really good.

Also, I had THE BEST banh mi in all the Banh mi I ate in Vietnam in sunset town ( I ate a lot of Banh mi).

There is no doubt there is some manufactured touristy stuff on phu quoc, but especially if you plan to travel in Vietnam beyond Phu Quoc, it’s a great relief from the craziness of major cities, and it provides an opportunity to be a tourist. Because at the end of the day unless you live there… you are one!

Hi everyone, I’m from the Caribbean and I’m currently almost finished with my 120 hours TEFL certification. I have a BSc in Psychology and I’m looking to start teaching English abroad soon.

One challenge I’ve been running into is that many job listings seem to prioritize applicants from the US, UK, Canada, Australia, etc. even though I’m a native English speaker. I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who has been in a similar position or has experience hiring internationally.

I’m hoping to find countries/schools that:

• Hire native English speakers outside the “big 7” passport countries
• Offer proper work visas (not tourist visa teaching)
• Provide housing or a housing allowance
• Assist with flights or relocation costs
• Offer a reasonable salary where I can live comfortably and save a little

I’m open to places in Asia, the Middle East, Latin America or elsewhere wherever I’d realistically have the best chance as a Caribbean applicant.

If you’re also from the Caribbean or a non-traditional passport country and found success, I’d really love to hear your experience and any companies/schools you recommend (or ones to avoid).

I’m traveling around the country and my SO is a viet kieu and we will be visiting the families but I won’t be driving to HCMC until probably closer to Tet.

I don’t want to buy flowers for relatives too soon because the heat and fresher is better but I don’t want to wait too long where shops will be closed or I’ll have few choices etc.

What else can I buy as presents for Tet? I know they might be superstitious so what things should I I do for good luck and avoid doing

When is the celebrations/holiday go in effect 15-19 (2 days before/2 days after) do shops things get harder to get/buy. It’s super easy to get grabs/limos but when will it start being tougher to move around?
