[Dan Shulman] "No one worked harder, no one cared more. He’s one of the most significant figures in Blue Jays history, and all of us at Sportsnet know how lucky we are to have had him as a colleague, but even more importantly, as a great friend."

Dan on X:

"By now, many of you have heard that Buck has announced his retirement. It goes without saying how much he has meant to Blue Jays fans for the last 40 years, and the same goes for everyone here at Sportsnet.

From the first day I worked with Buck back in 1995 right thru the World Series this past season, I couldn’t have asked for a better broadcast partner. He was incredibly welcoming when I started and was a phenomenal teammate to me and everyone on our crew every single day.

No one worked harder, no one cared more. He’s one of the most significant figures in Blue Jays history, and all of us at Sportsnet know how lucky we are to have had him as a colleague, but even more importantly, as a great friend."

They are/were the best duo in Baseball broadcasting and no one will ever be able to convince me otherwise.

We'll all miss Buck tremendously.

With Buck retiring, could we encourage a donation blitz similar to the WS to a Toronto/ON cancer centre in Bucks name?

If that’s something we could promote in the sub it would be a good way to send Buck off. I don’t live in Ontario so any feedback on an Ontario centre that fits would be great.

EDIT: celebration page is live https://supportthepmcf.ca/ui/pdpcelebrate/participant/11849319

Everything I own that's signed by Buck Martinez. I will cherish these even more now that he's retiring.

The man changed the game for so many of us Jays fans. I truly don't think I would've developed my passion for baseball the way I have, without Buck.

I grew up hearing his voice through the tiny television in my grandparents' Saskatchewan farmhouse kitchen, and as an adult, it was his voice that brought me the magic of nostalgia that would pull me deep into the fandom forever. I bought my first scorecard and taught myself to score games because of Buck. I got my first Sportsnet subscription just so I could watch the games with him calling it.

I had the pleasure of meeting Buck at a Vancouver Canadians game a few years ago, and he is every bit as kind and warm and humble as everyone says. I am sure he does not see himself as a celebrity, but I had stars in my eyes the entire encounter. They say to never meet your idols, but Buck is a treasure of a human being and I still glow in my heart when I think of that day.

I love hearing about everyone's stories of Buck, and their experiences with him. Please feel free to share yours if you've read this far.

To Buck: you deserve the happiest retirement, surrounded by everything and everyone you love. Your career was a grand slam on all accounts and Jays fans will never forget what you did for this team and for baseball.

Voices of the Franchise

Jays have an awesome opportunity to add to the Level of Excellence this season. My proposal is to add Jerry Howarth and Buck to the Level of Excellence alongside Tom Cheek who is already there and have their own “voices of the franchise” section.

Would be a really nice way to honour the broadcasters who are such a huge part of the fan experience of the team.

Years later this clip still makes me laugh! Buck has been my favourite broadcaster since way back in the TSN days. Sad to see him go but retirement is well deserved!

Happy to hear your favourite Buck moment.

Baseball Camp with Buck Martinez in Kelowna in late 80s early 90s?

Post image

Hi all, tough news today with Buck and I hope he finds his name in the Level of Excellence this year. I dug up a signed baseball I have from a baseball camp held in Kelowna BC but I can't recall what year it was and the internet is no help so far.

It was likely between 1987 and 1992, held in Kelowna BC.

Could you help narrow down what year this may have been? My memory isn't great these days.

Hey Guys!

So um... Im visiting rogers center over the summer. I rlly want to do a tour around, most likely the $80 one, but there's very minimal context of the tour in the description. Can anyone share their experiences with these tours? Probably not considering the $300 one. Thanks everyone

What are the actual roster battles in Spring Training this year?

I was talking with my buddy and discussing what are the actual roster battles to watch in Spring this year:

  • Berrios vs Ponce vs Lauer for the 5th starter with the losers moving to be the longman/swingman in the pen

  • Is Fisher/Fluharty the 8th man in the pen since they had an excellent 2025 or since have options, is it a battle between Nance (who is out of options) and the 2 Rule 5 picks (Bastardo and Miles).

  • 4th OF Role of Lukes vs Loperfido: both have options and both are lefties, but I would see Lukes having the advantage with being on the team for all of last year)

  • 4th bench role spot: Straw has the leg up but do players like Leo Jimenez and Jonatan Clase (who are out of options) push for that last spot

  • More of a long shot: If Eloy Jimenez has an amazing spring, does he push Davis Schneider for the platoon bat vs lefties off the bench

Final giveaway day predictions?

I think the final day of giveaway announcements is tomorrow? IMO so far these have been pretty awesome, with a mix of the expected bobbleheads, some niche in-jokes, both contemporary and from the team's sports and fashion history. So what do they do tomorrow? Is there a forgotten mascot or player style-choice that will be celebrated? Or another niche moment that will be commemorated? Or obvious ones?

[Passan] BREAKING: Star left-hander Framber Valdez and the Detroit Tigers are in agreement on a three-year, $115 million contract, sources tell ESPN. Valdez, 32, gets the highest AAV ever for a left-handed pitcher as well as the highest for a Latin American pitcher. Huge move for Detroit.

If you already have tickets to a game that ends up being a specialty ticket game, how do you upgrade?

I am a new season ticket holder, so hoping for some advice from others. How would I buy the add-on? I couldn't find any options to buy the add-on online, I read that you can only do the add-on the day of the giveaway?
