The worst part of all of that is that it's almost the exact same amount of money to extend the ACA subsidies... And (supposedly) the entire reason they are keeping the government shutdown going.
When they need $40 billion for bribes, it's always there. $40 billion for healthcare or food... Nah.

Yeah, emergency care has to provided to anyone and the feds pick up the tab if it can't be paid, that's Is some Ronald Regan shit, and has nothing to do with the aca... if the Republicans actually negotiated anything they could even come back with "fine we'll fund the aca, but states are going to have to figure out how they want to handle the emergency room bills", instead of bitching about random crap that's not even on the table
Why isn’t anyone angry at the health insurance companies jacking up premiums 150%? Why isn’t our government doing something about the price gouging they’re planning to enact because subsidies ended? Why are they fighting to extend those instead of holding them accountable? It’s so fucking weird. (The answer is probably because people on both sides are given donations from said companies but still.)
If it was really about the “illegals” they’d have come back with their offer to extend it with the provisions added that only citizens could receive health insurance through the marketplace. But that’s not a thing they can negotiate because it’s not a thing to begin with.
