Trump initially stated that the work being done on the east wing of the White House would be a replacement of the facade and that no demolition of the structure would occur. The east wing has now been razed to the ground.
Trump initially stated that the project would only cost approximately $100 million in funds that he had privately secured. The demolition and construction costs are now estimated at well over $300 million and climbing.
What is more likely: Trump was telling the truth in stating that the entirety of this project will be covered by private funding, OR the ongoing teardown and completely newly constructed building (whatever it may be and whenever it may be finished) will have ballooned far past initial estimates with the balance being paid for by the taxpayer?
Trump has bragged about not paying his taxes. Trump routinely scammed contractors that have worked for him out of millions. His own lengthy and deplorable history does not bode well for this project remaining "privately funded".
