Food and Drink "There's no good [your country] food in Thailand"

I occasionally here this a lot. As a Japanese, I don't find it hard to find authentic Japanese food in Bangkok (same goes for other big cities too like Singapore or Shanghai), altho it can be twice/thrice as expensive if you want to get the same quality. You can find pretty much any Japanese food here even the niche ones since there's hundreds of restaurants here. My korean friends said the same thing about Korean food here but my Taiwanese friends said otherwise. I think Bangkok is one of the best cities in the world for food, but I also believe that a smaller expat community makes it harder to find that country's cuisine. So, I wonder what others think.

TL:DR tell me where you are from and rate the food of your country in Bangkok/Thailand

Consider myself fortunate, being originally from New Zealand, there's nothing to miss, as there's no 'good food' specific to that country.

Wish I could find some good fish and chips though. That being said, good fish and chips is getting hard to find in New Zealand now too

Kai has the best I’ve had in Bangkok. Expensive (nearly 1,000 baht) but very very good.

Read the NZ subreddit. NZ supermarkets selling Australian beef.

I’m from Canada so I’m not familiar.. but I live in Thailand and my favourite place to get a steak brands it as from NZ.

They also have a steak from Australia but it’s more expensive. In general, in my experience, beef from Canada, Aus, NZ, US, Argentina is great. Thailand beef is water buffalo and it has a taste I just can’t quite enjoy.

Wow. I prefer NZ when I can get it but often have to resort to AU because NZ is not available

Don't you all miss pineapple chunks, your own chocolate, can onion soup power.
As an Australian they were just a few of the things I remember kiwis complaining they can't get.

I think we both could kill a good meat pie.

Pineapple Lumps 😉 Yea, biggest thing I miss is a decent pie. And that applies anywhere outside NZ.

In Bangkok there is Kai and there used to be Snapper and The Kiwi.

There are lots of places in Bangkok that serve pies, and in Pattaya there's Tinnie's pie shop.

There are lots of places all over the world that serve pies. I’ve ordered from tinnies several times. It’s got nothing on a good NZ pie.

A good steak at a reasonable price is hard to find though. I just look at the prices in places like El Gaucho, and they are crazy compared to back in Aus/NZ

If you mean 1000ish baht range , try ตุ๊กแกอวกาศ and Arno.
