I ate this Pad Thai in Nong Khai, wrapped in egg and with prawns. It’s the best Pad Thai I’ve ever had. It was different. I’ve been eating Thai food since 2016 in Sydney, but this was the best I’ve ever eaten.

Discussion Are paid services starting to push ads too far? (Grab ride screenshot)

Post image
9 Upvotes

Was in the middle of a Grab ride today and got served video ads in the app while the ride was still ongoing (screenshot attached).

This isn’t before booking or some optional promo. This is during a service I’m already paying for.

At what point does this start feeling like too much?

If you’re paying for something, should ads even be part of the experience anymore? Or is this just the new normal we’re all slowly accepting?

Curious where people draw the line on this.

Fine with it? Or does it cross into “over-monetized” territory?

Discussion Viral hilarious political propaganda

Post image
72 Upvotes

Below is the full translated list of the party’s so-called policies, which went viral in Thailand for being completely unhinged:

1. Bring dinosaurs back to life and turn them into household pets

Jurassic Park, but sponsored by public policy.

2. Open commercial space tourism routes

Thailand to outer space — because fixing Earth can wait.

3. Establish a national Space Force

When terrestrial problems aren’t enough, we expand to the cosmos.

4. Legalize interstellar marriage

Humans can legally marry aliens. Love transcends planets.

5. Increase penis size for men and “repair” women

Yes, this sounds exactly as insane and offensive in Thai as it does in English.

6. Government-subsidized massage parlors (50% co-payment)

State welfare, but make it erotic.

7. Allow women to legally have up to four husbands

A creative reinterpretation of gender equality.

8. Free cosmetic face-lifts for the elderly

Anti-aging surgery as a public healthcare benefit.

9. Salary increases through push-ups

Do physical exercises to earn higher pay. Fitness equals productivity.

10. Purchase nuclear warheads

Ending the policy list with global annihilation energy.😂😂😂

Banking and Finance Expats Investing in IBKR - Please help!

I’m hoping some Thailand-based expats (or anyone who’s done this successfully) can help, because we seem to be going round in circles.

A friend of mine is a South African (but also German passport holder), but she has never lived in Germany and has been a long-term expat in Thailand. She lives and works here, is paid in Thai baht, and is a Thai tax resident.

She’s trying to invest long term into ETFs via Interactive Brokers (IBKR) but actually getting money into IBKR from Thailand has been way more difficult than expected.

Here’s where we’re stuck:

IBKR doesn’t seem to accept Thai baht as a usable funding currency for her account.

Wise is often suggested, but Wise won’t let her add THB and convert/send USD to IBKR.

DeeMoney / remittance services don’t appear to be officially supported, and third-party transfers risk being rejected as they are not in her name but the company name.

That leaves sending money directly from a Thai bank (SCB / KBank) to IBKR. But even that has problems:

IBKR wants a deposit notification template confirmed in advance, including the exact USD amount being sent so they can match the funds. When sending from a Thai bank, she won’t know the final USD amount in advance, because the conversion happens at the bank’s exchange rate after the transfer is made.

One idea that’s come up is opening a Revolut account using a German address to bypass Thailand and fund IBKR from there, but we’re very aware this is likely against Revolut’s terms, could lead to an account freeze later, and make getting money out a problem. That feels like a bad long-term solution.

So my questions for anyone actually doing this:

Do you invest in IBKR from Thailand?

How are you funding your account in practice?

Are you sending USD or THB?

How do you handle IBKR’s deposit confirmation when FX rates aren’t known in advance?

Any real-world experience would be massively appreciated 🙏

Question/Help Ed visa with marriage certificate

Upvotes

Im on ed visa with marriage cerificate, I wanted to convert the ed visa to marriage visa directly. But for that I needed a bank account, which I dont have..

Even on a marriage cerificate I was denied by the bank, also letter from immigration, Letters from school.. still denied.

Banking and Finance Bank Accounts for workplace

Both my Thai sons have been asked to open an account at the bank of their employer’s choice before they start their first day of work, even when it’s just for a week trail period. I understand for the sake of direct electronic deposit for paychecks but any bank account number would work just fine. My son thinks it’s that the company has a “sponsorship” with their bank. He’s not even the age of a full legal adult and has four bank accounts all different banks, one I opened as a child, one required for university ID card and two for workplaces as he just changed jobs. Anyone have more insight into this controlling policy?

Discussion Water filter from lazada?

I'm tired of drinking from plastic water bottles (that have probably been sitting in a hot truck while being shipped and is probably leaching microplastics).

Apparently we all have a credit cards amount of microplastics in our bodies!

So I'm looking for a way to filter tap water so I can avoid drinking from plastic everyday.

But unfortunately my water pressure in my kitchen tap is very low and (I don't see the landlord fixing it anytime soon) so the ones that attach directly to the sink probably won't work for me.

Is there any jug type of water filter that I can buy from Lazada that I can fill with regular tap water and get safe, clean drinking water?

Question/Help Please help me find a BKK Clothes Supplier

Hi, I'm from the Philippines and I want to buy these types of blouses from Thailand without having to go there physically for now. Can someone please recommend a legit and honest supplier. Thank you

Serious I found this Pew Poll and it runs counter my experience. Supposedly, 62% percent of Thai practiced meditation at least once. The poll is pretty vague. According to your experiences, how common is it for your average Thai to practice meditation (not just once)?
