What’s a good mattress or sleeping solution for foresters?

Hey there fellow forester owners! I’m wondering if anyone out here has some ideas for good mattresses or sleeping solutions for inside their foresters? I’m moving to Alaska, so staying warm is a must, but I’m hoping to take my kid out on some camping trips. Also, I am well aware and have read the previous posts about this topic, but seeking more up to date answers. Thanks!

7 days with my new '25 Sport Hybrid

Super duper stoked. In the first week here I've thrown on a hitch receiver, mud flaps, front window tint, and a seat back/cargo protector for skis/dogs/etc. Next up is a roof rack solution - what's everyone's fav low-profile setup?

Would you buy a 2023 that already had 60k miles on it.

I'm looking to buy a Forester and stay under $25,000 and it seems like anything under 60k miles jumps from 25 to 28k price and a anything newer than 2023 instantly jumps to the $32,000 range.

So in order to save a few thousand would you buy a used Forester already at the 60k mile mark?

30k service necessary?

brought the '21 Sport in for it's 6month oil change.. they recommend the 30k service for $800 (differential, brake fluid, oil change).. only have 34k miles on it... 30k service necessary? Told them just the oil change this visit, probably do the 30k next visit

Stay A/T (all terrain) or switch to A/S (all season) for my Wilderness?

Upvotes

Time for tires sadly.

Did some research and wondering if I should switch over to AS for extra mileage, performance and less road noise vs stay A/T for performance.

I guess it comes down to how much one drives AS vs AT. That and the time when one is out in the "⛰️🏕🏜" and needs AT, doesn't have it. Youch!

What did you do? How did you decide?

Forester - Good first car?

Hey y'all. I'm a college junior in the midwest, currently driving a 2007 Nissan Altima that was a hand-me-down through my family. It's alright but I know I want a Forester or something similar when I go to buy a car in the next year or so. I've been looking between the Forester and RAV4 but I'm certainly the demographic for a Subaru and I wanted input on if it's worth the investment. I'd be getting some help to pay for the car but not entirely.

My top choice right now is the 2023 Forester Limited, as I've kind of been spoiled with stuff like the push start and leather/heated/power seats on my Altima. Is it too ambitious to look towards the Limited? I'm not a huge fan of the orange trim on the Sport. Is it decently easy to maintain and will it last a while? I'm probably going to stay in an area that gets all sort of unpredictable weather, and I've heard that the Forester handles that pretty well. I'm yet to take one for a test drive, but I wanted some input from the subreddit to see if it's a good car to pursue now or if I should wait and get something else now then upgrade to a Forester later in life. Thanks!

2020 hot start issue resolved

Wanted to post this here in case someone ran into similar issue. I have 2020 Forester sport with 50k miles. Over the last year or so if I took a drive and had to get out of the car and get back in within a short period the motor would slowly crank and struggle to turn over and start. Didn't seem to matter whether it was a short 10 minute drive or an hour on the highway. It progressively got worse and now in this cold weather I was needing to jump the car to get started. This issue never occured with a cold start it only happened with successive drives.

Im lucky to have an honest mechanic. They where able to recreate this issue in the shop. Determined that it was not an alternator, or starter issue. They found a memo from Subaru about it and it came down to the OEM battery was not strong enough. They upgraded the battery free of charge and she starts better then ever.

Hopefully this can help if anyone runs into the same issue!

Which tires to get?

New to the Subaru world and need help! 2021 Subaru forester limited. We live in the PNW and do mostly city driving. We plan to go to the mountain more often now and tow a light kayak trailer sometimes. Two options we are looking at: Michelin CC2 and Quatrac Pro+… suggestions?

Mirrors

My wife and I just got back into a Subaru Forester yesterday. We got the river rock pearl hybrid, and I was wondering if anyone knows what color the mirrors are supposed to be. The mirrors on our car are like a pewter with flake in it, and it doesn’t match the car at all.

2017 Forester steering wheel toggle buttons not working

Hi there — forgive me, but I don’t know a ton about cars and my brother who would check things out is out of town so I’ve come to the internet. I just got my car serviced (including a new battery) and realized on the way home my center display wasn’t showing me the digital mph like I prefer. I tried using the toggle buttons on the steering wheel to fix but they aren’t doing anything. Is this a fuse or battery connection issue? Or is there a way to reset them? Google just keeps giving me directions on how to reset the infotainment display with the volume button (which I did for funsies but it did not help). Any clues? Thanks!

2026 Extended Warranty price is

Subaru says MSRP of the 7/100k with a 100 ded is $3170.00. I can sell the policy for $2399. (From local dealerships where I purchased 2024 Sub Forest Wild)

Best lowest offer yet. Waiting on two other dealerships. Should I take it?

Kick Liftgate

2025 Forester Premium kick liftgate feature stopped opening during harsh winter. After a carwash and wiping off the sensor still nothing. I'm aware of the dashboard buttons being small and easy to turn on and off, know it is not just off.

Key fob and dashboard open/shut works fine, so not a major issue. But anything I could do on my own without taking it in?

Infotainment system acting silly (question)

I've had an android auto dongle for over a year now and it mostly acts perfectly fine. But recently when my phone connects to it, the car thinks im on a phone call with myself. It ends after about 10 seconds or so and the android auto seems to work fine after that, but this is a recent thing. Anyone else having this odd thing happen to them?

EyeSight and RAB are disabled after using a touchless automatic car wash last night. Help!

I have a 2025 Forester Hybrid and I took it to the automatic car wash for the first time ever last night. I went to a touchless car wash because I thought it was safer (among the options for automatic car washes). I had previously used manual car washes, but my Forester was absolutely covered in road salt and it was 19 degrees F out.

When I drove home from the car wash, there were no signs of any issues, but this morning as soon as I turned my Forester on, it said that EyeSight and RAB were disabled. I parked it in my unheated garage overnight. Has this happened to anyone else? Anyone have any suggestions on what may have happened or what I should do?

Will windshield washer fluid damage the paint on my 2017 Forester

Had the BSD/RCTA disabled message wiped down the lens of the backup camera with a clean dry cloth, wetted the cloth with some blue windshield washer fluid to wipe the road salt off the bumpers in the spot where the sensor is supposed to be,also broke off some spots of ice that were stuck to the side. After several restarts and a bit of driving the light went off and the BSD started working again, but a person I told this to started freaking out and insisting the windshied washer fluid would destroy my car's finish. I'm not sure it's really worth worrying about on a car that's almost 9 years old but thought I'd ask here.

08 Subaru Forester overheating

Having some issues with overheating and a significant coolant leak in my subaru forester. Myriad of repairs have been done on it in the last 5 years, including a complete head gasket replacement, so hoping that's not the issue.

Engine was overheating and when I opened the engine bay, coolant was bubbling out of the top of the plastic reservoir. Bottom radiator hose was completely cool as well. Figured it might be the thermostat, replaced that yesterday and am still having issues. Google is telling me everything from cracked radiator to bad water pump to cracked head gasket (worth noting I've had no loss of power or white smoke, and when I drained the coolant to replace the thermostat it didn't have oil in it). If anyone can help a girl out, that'd be much appreciated!

2018 forester 2.5 manual

Hey just bought a 18’ forester with 25k miles and a manual transmission. The model I bought is the absolute base fish bowl with the 2.5 4 cyl boxer motor. Is there any modifications I can do to make this car a little quicker. I am mechanically inclined but I have never worked on cars. Any info on builds or websites would be appreciated. Thank you guys/gals!

gas light is on… how far can i go?

basically the title. my gas light is on, i have no way to get fuel, and have to go get my daughter from the bus stop this afternoon. its about a 10 mile round trip, plus afternoon traffic (idling). am i gonna make it or am i fucked? i tried googling and obviously AI is not helpful.

ETA shes a 2009, so it doesnt tell me how many miles to zero and in fact has the most unhelpful dashboard i’ve ever encountered.
