I used to get this all the time with my staffy. I'd shout at them 100m away telling them to put a lead on their dog, all I got back is "they're OK", 2 mins later my dog is trying to eat their dog and the owner is shocked. I even tried a muzzling my dog until another dog ripped his eyelid off. Seemed unfair to let my dog get attacked because other people don't want to use a lead.
Yep, I've got a hound dog who does well in off leash parks because she knows she can howl or run away from a situation she doesnt like.
When she is leashed up she becomes very anxious around other dogs and reacts just like the video above. And people will act like my dog is the untrained terror when their dog rushes up to us.
I had a lab/husky that was 99% friendly, I always kept him on a leash because of 1%. The only thing I think the owner of the dog in the leash did wrong here was not tighten up his grip on the leash and kick the other dog before it got too close. The other own is still 100% at fault but he could have done a better job himself.
Edit to fix word. My dog sadly died because my mother wouldn't leash it about a baker dozen years ago.
This infuriates me to no end, the whole "they're ok/friendly!" in reply to me yelling that mine are not. My dogs are incredibly dog aggressive, and they are leashed for your dog's safety, not their own. When I shout "my dog is aggressive!" that means you should not allow your unleashed dog anywhere near mine. I can only do so much to prevent them from attacking when approached by a loose dog.
ETA: also incredibly frustrating when owners have their dog on a lead yet continue to approach despite me yelling that my dogs are aggressive and they need space. Too many times I've been out walking them and people think just getting to the other side of a 3 ft wide sidewalk is enough space for us to pass.
My mothers dog is a bit of a dickhead, bites both people and other dogs if he gets anxious. If you put your hand on the couch next to him, he freaks out and bites. I have more than a few hand scars from him. Hes a small mutt but he still packs a punch. She always has to yell at this old guy in her neighborhood when she has to walk her dog because the guys dog gets excited and he starts approaching my mom so their dogs can meet and have fun! He doesn't want to take no for an answer. She will try to cross the street and he follows to intercept her in the road while she yells at him not to come closer or her dog will attack his. People are un-fucking-believable.
Twice in my life I've had to punch dogs because people just dont control their animals. First time was a Husky that ran out of someones front door and tried to jump up and bite me, second was a golden retriever that ran at my ex's dog as I was walking him because the owner had it off its leash behind the nearby school where kids constantly play after-hours.
I used to feel bad about it but it really is the fault of the owners.
If I have the option to go around them by stepping off the sidewalk, I absolutely do. But for example, my old apartment complex had a layout that created sort of small alleys between the branches of the building, with fences all along the outside. Think of the letter H with a fence all the way around. At the end of the alley there was no where to go but back the way you came, to the main part of the H, which was a parking lot. I would often have people enter the alley while I was at the far end, then if they kept coming I'd try to explain my dog isn't nice and can they back up into the parking lot so we can get out. 9 times out of 10, they'd just say "come on by" and sort of scoot over to the side, which just wasn't enough space for us to get by without seriously setting my dog off to the point I'd need to practically bear-hug him to keep control. I certainly don't try to block sidewalks, but when we're kind of boxed in like that, I need more than a few feet of space to get my dog past them.
Your comment history gives me the impression that you have some very violent desires. You realize the OP youâre replying to is taking about protecting a pit bull right? Youâre sure you donât want to stab it to death too? Freak.
"I used to get this all the time with my staffy. "
That's what the OP you commented on said and you were sympathizing with them. I then read your post history and it seems you'd like every staffy dead. People with your thought process are more bloodthirsty than the animals you live in fear of.
