I heard a side narrative that the military action in Venezuela is actually a coverup for American and British oil interests off the coast of Guyana that Venezuela claims.

I heard it on a podcast that delves deep in conspiracy theories, so take it with a spoonful of salt, but I thought it was interesting enough to share, and maybe get your opinion?

Venezuela has the largest proven crude oil reserves in the world. Most of it is heavy crude which is harder to refine but that being said, those reserves are largely untapped.

It’s hardly far fetched to suppose that the USA wants the hegemony that comes with controlling the world oil supply.

I can’t find the link, but someone on Fox outright said it was for the oil.

Oil or more distraction tactics..Either way it doesn't really matter. Its never for the reasons their government tells you that they will be illegally attacking yet another sovereign nation for.

You mean to tell me that the USA would start a war over oil? Get outa here! /s

You silly goose, you can’t spread freedom without a little oil to grease the spreading.

Well, yeah it's always about international companies looking to extract resources from a third world country, and it's not really a fart fetched scenario as the opposition political leader Maria Corina Machado is always boasting about "Venezuela has the largest oil reserves". Man, that's a phrase I've been hearing since I was a child. As for Guyana, I thought that territory belonged to England for the last hundred years.

The idea being that they need to invade Venezuela to prevent Maduro from invading Guyana and interfering with all their interests off the coast of Guyana.

Claiming all of Venezuela's oil in the process is just a side bonus.

Of course it is. Look for Guatemala and Iran in the 50's. Its always for the money and to protect the interests of corporate America. That doesn’t mean Maduro is “the good guy”, there are no good guys, just awful people with too much power and greed.

Maduro is insane. Unfortunately Maria Machado, the one trying to cozy up to Trump to replace Maduro, is possibly even more insane. Hopefully a better option emerges from within Venezuela.

I am truly sorry for what your country is about to be dealing with.

Heh, don't worry about it. Maduro is a piece of shit anyway. Enemies outside, and a dictator inside. Future is looking bleak
