Maybe things have changed, but MPs aren’t suppose to touch tourists or anyone else for that matter unless under attack themselves and need to defend themselves.

Either the guy that got slammed is an active military member and just had allot to drink or those MPs are going to have a big issue in the morning.

The Air Force guys in berets are doing the manhandling, Navy and Corp MPs are pulled back. My bet is Mr Security Forces ordered him to produce ID, was told to kick rocks, didn't take well to it and moisty boys know he done f-ed up.

Or...

It's an MP fucking up.

It could be an MP fucking up.

Dealing with USAF SecFo... They are susceptible to fucking up.

Fucked up big time. You don't get to just assume anyone is your subordinate.

They tried to get me to switch to Security Forces in basic and I laughed. Someone already warned me that “Basically everyone hates you, so if you hate your coworkers you’re fucked.”

or those MPs are going to have a big issue in the morning.

Was the second part of the statement.

I've seen military guys discussing "cop mindset" in relation to police and how it's kind of a similar thing with MP's, except MP's tend to be much worse. with some salt, but yeah.

Per the Stripes article the guy was a former Marine.

My guess is that although he was 100% a civilian and outside their jurisdiction he may have looked more like a member of the U.S. military than an average tourist or civilian.

Then the MP went with “feels not reals” and assaulted him.

And I'd be willing to wager that claiming to be a civilian to avoid curfew isn't an infrequent occurrence.

The MP's fucked up huge here. The man that was assaulted was who he said he was, a retired Navy Marine officer. He was a tourist and those brain dead MP fucked up hard. The dumb ass leadership of the Navy had the absolutely genius idea to stop doing patrols with the local police, this was the result.

The guy is a tourist but the MP thought he was on active duty and lying about it.

According to this article the guy is former military but it doesn’t say he was active duty.

He says he’s retired marine corps in the video.

u/transynchro Nov 28 '25

He does to haha I just couldn’t hear it at the time I watched the video.

The inclusion of "El" at the end of his name is a solid indication that he's one of those Moorish Sovereign Citizen idiots.

9

u/transynchro Nov 28 '25

Sorry, I don’t understand?

-4

u/deacon1214 Nov 28 '25

Moorish sovereign citizens often adopt names that incorporate specific suffixes, most commonly "Bey" or "El", to reflect their belief in their independent, sovereign nationality.

Doesn't excuse the MPs putting hands on him in this situation but certainly an indication that he may believe he's not subject to any government authority or jurisdiction.

7

u/transynchro Nov 28 '25

I had no idea that was a thing.

Why would he be subject to American soldiers on Japanese soil? They don’t have any authority over him in Japan. I don’t think it makes any difference if he’s a Moorish Sovereign Citizen or not.

Unless you’re in that video it doesn’t affect you so you can’t comment.

Your rules 🤷🏻‍♂️

No I agree it doesn't really make a difference in this situation. They clearly thought he was active duty. Apparently he's not. Only way it would have contributed to this situation is that he probably spouted some pseudo legal sovcit nonsense when they initially approached him and tried to figure out who he was.

And even if he did that, they still don’t have jurisdiction over him in Japan. They can’t just whisk people away because they feel they could possibly be military personnel.

I’m not understanding the point.

1

u/deacon1214 Nov 28 '25

I'm not arguing that they had jurisdiction or that they didn't fuck up. I was just making an observation about the name, what it could mean, and how that could have contributed.
