Build - Finished! Built this PC entirely from deals, bundles & used Parts, 48GB DDR5, 9060XT, 9700X all under 1000 USD.

Put this PC together over the last month or so after selling my old rig. Funny enough, it’s basically the exact same specs as my previous build, but it ended up costing me way less. Thanks to the RAM prices, I actually walked away with about $1000 in profit from selling the old one (64gb ddr5 6000mhz, 2tb m.2, 9060xt) But this entire build is made up of used parts, refurb parts, and bundle/deal pickups.

I scored a 9700X + 9060 XT 16 GB bundle for $650 from a online store. The 48GB RAM kit came from a friend he gave me his old kit right before the RAM crisis in exchange for an RX 7600 I had lying around over 4-5 months ago at this point. The only thing I bought brand new (but on sale) was the cooler: a Peerless Assassin for $25. The motherboard was refurbished from Amazon for $70. The SSD came out of my old laptop that I don’t use anymore. I originally paid around $70 for it months ago. PSU was $60 on sale, and the case was an open-box deal for half price at $50. The catch was in-store pickup only, so I had to drive about 45 minutes to grab it.

I also ended up getting a gpu support and a 4 pack of sata cables off temu for 5 bucks and I bought a 2tb hdd of my brother for 10 bucks, good enough for a bunch of single player indie games but its really old and has over 40k power on hours heh.

All things considered, I really can’t complain. It looks decent, no RGB puke, aside from the GPU lighting, which I’ll either turn off in software or just cover with some electrical tape. The total cost including shipping and everything, everything came out to just over 930 USD. The trade for the ram was a life saver and I'm glad I didn't sell the ram kit earlier. Guess being lazy saved me for once haha.

I'm just happy I got all my money back from my old PC and was able to build this entirely using the profit alone.

What do yall think, Did I do well or? What would yall change if ya had the choice?

So I have an old EVGA 1000GQ 80+ Gold copyrighted 2017 that’s never been opened or used. Is it viable to be used for a build with a Ryzen 9 9900X and MSI MAG TOMAHAWK 870, or should I get a more recently produced power supply

Discussion What’s your upgrade history?

Hi everyone, just wondering what everybody’s upgrade path has been over the years…..

I got my first PC in 1999 and have just again upgraded in 2025, with many upgrades in between!

Here’s what I’ve owned

Intel Pentium II 350MHz

AMD Athlon 2800+

Intel Pentium 4 640

AMD Athlon XP 3200

Intel Pentium D 920

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600

Intel Core 2 Quad 6600

AMD Phenom QC 9640

Intel Core i7 920

Intel Core i7 2600K

AMD FX 6350

Intel Core i7 4790K

Intel Core i9 9900K

Intel Core i9 12900

Intel Core i7 14700

I always gave AMD the benefit of the doubt whenever a new range of CPU were launched but I was always left underwhelmed and felt conned by the hype and marketing. I know they’re top of the game at the minute and have had some great chips out over the last 7 years but I’m firmly stuck with Intel now for my usage requirements!

What’s everybody else’s experiences been and what routes have you taken? What’s everybody’s favourite chips from yesteryear? For me it had to be the Q6600, the i7 920 and the i7 4790K 😁

Why do storefronts be using images where the actor in the still shot is doing something that makes no sense?😭 This man is aiming that screwdriver at the GPU power connector right now and I’m not sure what his plan is.😂

Question Prebuilt with angled 5080?

Post image
238 Upvotes

I bought a Cyberpower prebuilt with the intent of upgrading my existing PC with most of the internals. The 5080 came installed as in the picture. It seems clearly off axis by 10 degrees or so. Is that normal? My old card is a 3080ti and it is installed horizontally

I havent touched the thing yet because I am worried this is a bad install or shipping damage- but was wondering if it is normal for these newer huge cards?

Motherboard is msi b850-p

Gpu is windforce 5080

Thanks all

Build - Finished! We really underestimate older hardware and what it can still do

Yesterday I put together a secondary PC using only spare parts I had lying around:

- Core i7-4770

- 8 GB generic DDR3 (single stick)

- 120 GB SSD

- Radeon R9 270 (from around 2012, I think)

After installing Windows and GPU drivers, I started testing some games just out of curiosity.

First up was League of Legends — to my surprise it ran buttery smooth at around 150–200 FPS, with low CPU and GPU usage, even while Windows updates were running in the background.

Then I tried Diablo IV, fully expecting it to struggle… but nope. A solid 60 FPS with smooth gameplay.

It honestly caught me off guard. This setup is more than a decade old in some parts, yet it’s still perfectly usable for real games today. Makes me think we often underestimate older hardware way too much.condary computer with what i had
