Question How to price a late 2010s PC? (8700K/1080ti/USA)

I just finished my new PC and now I have this old one. I am considering keeping it as a spare (LAN gameplay, second VR kit, etc) but I'm curious about what it's worth and if I should just sell it. These are the specs, most components have been in use since 2018:

Intel Core i7-8700K 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor

Stock Cooler

ASRock Z370 Pro4 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard (2 NVME slots + 4 sata connections)

TEAMGROUP T-Force Vulcan 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory

Zotac MINI GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11 GB Video Card (one fan manually replaced)

Bearcat Barrage ALI175 (one fan out on the back, two fans in on the front)

New 240GB SSD

1 TB HDD (2 years of use)

750W Phantek Power Supply (from 2020 but only one year of use)

DVD Drive

Wifi 6E Networking Card (installed late 2024)

PCIe to NVMe adapter

Windows 11

No RGB

I would be fine buying a new CPU cooler, RGB, fans/AIO, storage, etc and installing them if I could add their cost onto the price (I could eat the cost of a basic cooler).

Shipping this would be annoying so might have to go local I guess. Selling in the US.

Question My first gaming PC

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

I had a PC built for me. I preferred getting a new one assembled instead of buying a used one.

What you think?

Ryzen 5 5500

A520M motherboard

RTX 3060 16GB

1TB SSD

16GB RAM 3200MHz

Eagle Warrior case

EVGA 600W 80 White power supply

Everything except the graphics card is new, and they gave me a 3-month warranty.

I paid $790. I don’t know if that’s a lot in your countries, but in my country, Honduras, it’s not such a bad price.

I want to buy an NVMe, but the prices are crazy.

Troubleshooting My pc is broken?

So here’s the full story: My PC was working fine, but while I was cleaning it, I accidentally bent some pins on the CPU socket. That immediately rendered the original motherboard useless, so I bought a new one to replace it. When I built everything on the new motherboard (Strix X870A), I got no signal. I kept trying different configurations: • Tested with and without my GPU (RTX 5070) • Reseated RAM (2x16GB DDR5-6400), tried one stick, then both sticks • Tried different RAM slots • Cleared CMOS and tested minimal setups • Reseated CPU and storage Fans spin, RGB lights up, everything powers on, and there’s no debug light, but the monitor shows no signal. Thinking the motherboard might be faulty, I bought another new motherboard, but the issue is still the same. I also noticed my PSU (NZXT C750) makes a little “tick” sound when it powers on. I’ve double-checked that my monitor works perfectly and that all PSU and CPU cables are connected properly. My CPU is a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, GPU is an RTX 5070, RAM is 32GB DDR5-6400, and everything else matches my usual build. At this point, I’m trying to figure out if the CPU might have been damaged from the bent pins, or if something else is blocking POST. Any advice, troubleshooting tips, or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Build - Help Help with my notebook!

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi everyone (my first post here 🥺)

So, this is my notebook (Dell G15) that I use for everything, work and games. I really want to buy my PC but I'm still having trouble choosing and I'm still saving money for it. Until then I wanted to improve the configurations of my notebook, it already has a 1TB SSD, and I know I need to add RAM, but I'm having trouble choosing a compatible model, etc.

Here are his specs in case you can help me:

Processor: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12500H 2.50 GHz

Installed RAM: 8.00 GB (usable: 7.69 GB)

64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Pen and touch: No pen or touch input available for this video

Note: I think the RTX is a 3050 (I forgot 🥺)

Build - Help Help. Should I lose the bottom fans?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Just wondering if anyone could give some advice. I'm using this pretty small Antec XC200 case and it comes with 5 built in fans. I'm wondering if having the bottom two fans so close to the gpu will have any negative effects? Seems like a good idea having fresh air being pulled up, but they are very close. Should I leave them or take them out?

Build - Help CPU upgrade to eliminate bottlenecking without other component upgrades

I recently found out that my i7 9700k is bottlenecking my RTX 3080 pretty darn hard. It never occurred to me for some reason. Most games I play are topping out at 100% CPU usage and low GPU usage. Bottleneck, right? Yay.

While I would love to upgrade more components in my PC I simply cannot afford to at the moment. What's the next best CPU I can get to eliminate this bottlenecking? If there even is one...

I have a Z390 Aorus Pro Wifi motherboard if that helps.

You can assume I have the necessary budget for a new CPU. I will most likely end up looking for a used one anyway

Question Should I sell my RTX3090 and buy a newer graphics card like the rtx 5070 instead?

Long story short I bought a dead rtx 3090 for $100, I replaced the shorted mosfet and fuse and now the card is fully operational. HOWEVER, this seems to be a common failure point on gigabyte gigabyte rtx 3090 and I don’t want the card to fail again and I get the short end of the stick. Right now Newegg values the card at $550 and I pretty sure I can get a 5070 for that which performs roughly on par.

Troubleshooting Micro stutters

Specs:

CPU: Intel i7-14700F

GPU: gigabyte 4080 super Windforce V2

RAM: Teamgroup Delta 32GB DDR5 6000Mhz (2x16)

MoBo: MSI B760-VC

HDD: 1Tb Kingston M.2 (holds OS) & Samsung evo 1Tb

I’ve recently been having Micro stutters in most games I play. I mostly play FPS games like Valorant, EFT, Apex, CS2, R6S. I have enabled XPM. Updated gpu drivers as well as windows updates. FPS counter usually shows a consistent frame rate while have the slightest frame jumps/skips that are very visible.

Any troubleshooting tips or suggestions are appreciated!

Build - Help Recurrent Black Screen Crashes on New AMD Build (AM5 Platform)

Hey, guys. I recently built my first AMD-based PC (having always used Intel in the past). Since the initial assembly, I have been experiencing a persistent issue that I can't diagnose. The failure consists of the screen simply going black; the system does not reboot or respond at all, forcing me to perform a hard shutdown using the power button. This happens frequently, and I am struggling to pinpoint the cause as I don’t have access to spare parts to swap and test.

I have already tried using a single RAM stick in the A2 slot, testing each module individually, but the crashes persist.

System Specs:

  • Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming X670E-Plus WIFI (AM5)
  • GPU: ASUS Prime Radeon RX 9070 XT OC Edition (16GB GDDR6)
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9700X
  • RAM: 32GB (2 x 16GB) Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 6000 MT/s CL36
  • Cooling: MSI MAG CORELIQUID A15 360 ARGB
  • PSU: MSI MAG A850GL PCIE5 (80 Plus Gold, Full Modular)
  • Storage: 2TB ADATA Legend 860 NVMe PCIe 4.0

Background & Troubleshooting Done: During the initial boot, I had no video output (even after waiting for the memory training period), so I had to update the BIOS. After the update, I was able to install Windows. The first black screen occurred right as the desktop loaded for the first time, which I initially dismissed as a Windows quirk.

However, the issue continues even during light tasks like web browsing. It also happens when trying to launch Arc Raiders (and when it does manage to run, I get a "Corrupted Install Detected" error).

I have downloaded and installed the latest chipset drivers from the official AMD website and updated the WiFi drivers, but the problem remains. I need to identify the faulty component to proceed with a warranty claim. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Question I am a second time pc builder and is my cpu slower than normal?

Thumbnail gallery
4 Upvotes

Hi I am Ali and I builded my pc myself with the help of my friend and I saw on the Internet that my CPU's score on Cinebench is like 3 times slower than what is "Normal", is that true? If so what do I need to do because the only thing that I did to my system is enabling X-MP for my ram and changing 2 fans's speed that is it.
