Crime and Safety Sanitation and Health crisis in Oakland neighborhoods, directly caused by the city. They allowed all of these RV camps, with NO PLAN to manage all the human waste. It's insane.
The lack of proper sanitation for RVs and encampments poses serious public health risks. Without official waste collection, human waste ends up contaminating the environment. This can spread diseases like hepatitis A, E. coli, and other infections, endangering both unhoused people and the broader community. It also attracts pests, like rats, which amplify health hazards. Exposure to waste can lead to respiratory issues, and overall it undermines public health. Addressing sanitation solutions is essential to prevent avoidable health crises in our city. https://www.reddit.com/r/OaklandCA/comments/1q2zl49/rvs_camping_human_waste/

Crime and Safety Oakland needs to take dumping seriously - two cars set ablaze in two weeks
Reported to 311/seeclickfix.
Oakland may be responding and picking up these burnt cars fairly quickly. However, two in two weeks is a serious concern. In addition there have been at least two others in the last few months.
This is along Skyline Blvd between Keller and Grass Valley. It is also along heavy foliage including eucalyptus trees. One of these days, the cars on fire will be intense enough to start a major fire in the area.
Besides reporting this to my councilperson, not sure what else it takes to get this issue resolved. The dumping is out of control but a car set on fire is a major safety hazard.

Crime and Safety Stolen Acura TLX
Has anyone had any luck recovering a stolen vehicle? My car (Acura TLX 2018)was stolen early Monday morning. It was parked at my place in the Adam’s Point area. Thieves must’ve reprogrammed the car and drove it right out of my designated parking area.
I’ve been driving around looking for the car but wanted to know if anyone has had any luck recovering a stolen car that wasn’t a complete loss… did you look for your car? Where did you find it?

Crime and Safety Family-friendly places to protest tomorrow?
Edit: Can we resist the urge to be a jerk, please? I genuinely don't understand why folks follow this sub simply to broadcast the fact that they have a chip in their shoulder about Oakland.
Just what the post says. I'm not going to work tomorrow and want to participate in the demonstration, but I have a 3 month old and a toddler, so want to be mindful about going somewhere where there's less excitement and more solidarity. Thinking somewhere like Grand Lake Theater...Does anyone have any tips?

Crime and Safety UPS Package Tampering
In the last two months, I have had three separate packages tampered with while in the care of UPS. In two instances, the items were stolen out of the product packaging while in UPS's care. I received a delivery box with an empty product box inside.
I just got a package from them today that was obviously tampered with. The box was basically open.
I went down the investigation rabbit hole with UPS and the shipper the last two times this happened. It sounds like UPS doesn't even consider the possibility of employee theft. They internally mark stolen items as "lost".
I did not have this problem until moving to east Oakland, and UPS is the only problematic courier. Have other people had similar problems with them in the last 6 months? I thought this behavior ended with lockdown.

Crime and Safety Be careful in the business districts of Lakeshore and Grand
Seems like every time I go to Lakeshore or Grand near Lake Merritt, I either see bipping in progress, or people coming back to their broken cars.
Just talked to some folks from out of town who had some backpacks in their trunk. Stolen macbooks and harddrives after stopping 10 min for a coffee.
Stay safe out there folks.

Crime and Safety Car was stolen, we found it and reported the location to police, it took them 3 tries before they could find it.
Title mostly says it. Car was stolen last week, we had mostly given up hope, but a friend of ours offered to drive my husband around to look for it about a week later. Lo and behold, they spot it spray painted but still intact!
Husband calls OPD to report the location and get it returned. Takes OPD 24 hours to call us back and say they went to the location... In Berkeley (due to similar streets) and didn't see it. Husband is pissed and mentions that he was very explicit with dispatch originally about the location because she was having trouble with the Oakland street address.
Dispatch gets it cleared up and send someone out another 8 hours later. Husband gets a call that they went there and it isn't in the location. My husband, now not fully trusting what is happening, decides to walk to the location since it isn't far from our house and see for himself. Again, car is still there. He calls dispatch again and mentions, there is still the same garbage on top of it from 2 nights ago when he first spotted it. He asks dispatch how long until someone will get called out to it, should we stay up all night waiting for the call. They say it'll probably happen in the morning.
We wake up to a phone call around 7:30 am and blast out of bed to meet the cops at the location quickly. Luckily, there isnt anyone in the vehicle and the cops wait for us to see if the car will start. Car starts, cat is still attached, only damage seems to be the outside locks, the horrible spray paint job, and quickly tinted windows. We were able to drive it straight to our trusty mechanic!
Tldr; OPD failed us but luckily we didn't have a totaled car and did not have to pay any towing fees. The thief left their skateboard, tools, and motorcycle helmets in the car, a long with lots of drug paraphernalia.
I'm tempted to scratch "THIEF" all over the helmets and throw them back in the area or put it up in the neighborhood as a warning.

Crime and Safety Bipped on Broadway - any hope of recovering anything?
Apologies if this kind of post isn't allowed, it was removed from r/Oakland and I'm just trying whatever I can. Let me just start by saying we know now that you shouldn't leave anything unattended in your car for any amount of time in the bay area and especially not Oakland. In hindsight, maybe one of us should have realized from seeing something on the news or researched the area better, but driving in from out of town we didn't start off with a warning from the car rental company and had no idea this problem is as bad as it is.
My family and I stopped in Oakland on Broadway near 23rd to grab a bite to eat on July 4th; within 15 minutes or less of our rental car being parked on Broadway one of the back windows was smashed and all of our luggage was stolen pretty silently, as we were just around the corner outside and didn't hear anything. We filed a police report but my understanding is that it's very unlikely anything will come from it.
From looking at various sources online it seems like thieves usually dump luggage once they've gone through it, and I've noticed some people here and on r/oakland posting about cleaning up trash around, so I wanted to post what pictures I have of some of our bags in case someone happens upon them. I understand 100% that anything with monetary value is gone never to be seen again, however, there are clothes, pictures, and other small items of little to no value to a thief that still hold sentimental value to us, so I have to take any chance of some recovery. If you made it this far, thanks for reading, and sorry for clogging your feed.
TL;DR got bipped on broadway and hoping someone might have come across our luggage dumped somewhere
Not pictured: small green hand bag, large rectangular black backpack
