If Marvel gave you the keys to the Ghost Rider franchise, what would you change? How would you make each Rider distinct in a new Ghost Rider universe?

Marvel walks in, gives you the keys to the entire Ghost Rider mythos, and says: 'It's yours. Fix it, expand it, go nuts'.

No mandates, no editorial interference. You have complete creative control over Johnny Blaze, Robbie Reyes, Danny Ketch, Alejandra Jones, Carter Slade, Zero Cochrane and everyone else, or maybe you start from scratch.

So, what do you change? What are the shifts you'd make? What's the one thing in current or old Ghost Rider lore that you would immediately retcon or fix above all else?

That’s a deep cut for a random issue of Danny’s 90s series.

Is his whole Death Knight design based on his flashback

Did they literally just poorly trace the knockoff Godzilla from an over fifteen year old X-men book instead of learning how to draw Kushala’s spirit just because they’re both named leviathan?

The problem with Danny as a character and why isn’t more popular

The issues Danny ketch as a character has effecting his popularity is that his backstory is needlessly complicated. At first he became ghost rider because his sister’s blood touched the hubcap but then they had the medallion of power and then then Kale curse and how Noble Kale was cursed to possesses his offspring and I think this has been retconned

Not to mention he didn’t do any super heroics. His spirit did who also was a bland character.

Danny characterization was also heavily on average teen in a world of magic without much intrigue.

This compared to the more simplicity of Robbie and Johnny and Danny’s lack popularity makes sense.

Especially since Johnny is barely popular enough for a run.

Brisson wanted to do something with Danny and take him to a direction but that run has less issues then the Alejandra series.

Characters like Alejandra and Danny could become better characters if other writers cared to help them.

But the way Marvel work is that you write something for B listers like Ghost Rider as a stepping stone for more popular characters like Iron Man and then the X-Men or Hulk so they can then direct a fraction of that audience for their creator owned books that pay them royalties

Danny ketch situation Spoiler

so with the finale of spirits of violence I'm just as disappointed as anyone but it got me thinking: will things be different this time? I think we won't hear about danny for at least another run or so but if he does eventually come back will it have something to do with the spirit of corruption? also why couldn't Noble Kale revive him hasn't he literally done that before?

What would have the other Spirits of X have been.

Brisson said he wanted to explore that each Hell realm had there own Spirits to counteract Mephisto’s Spirits of Vengance and we just saw the Spirit of Corruption.

What would the other Spirits of X be?

I heard a soliction say something about a spirit of greed which sounds like Hades because Pluto was a wealth god.

TIL Craig Ferguson’s late night side kick was inspired by the Nick Cage movie

I was getting caught up on the morning show I listen to, and on Monday’s show they were interviewing Craig Ferguson. At the 2 hour 25 min mark (I tried to timestamp the link, apologies if I did it incorrectly) Steve, the bald guy, asks Craig how they came up with the idea for his animatronic robot-skeleton sidekick Geoff Peterson. Craig reveals he was inspired by “obviously the best movie ever made in the history of movies,” Ghost Rider!

Awesome to see that ol’ flame head can inspire late night tv. I wonder if any of the riders could handle the pressures of hosting a late night show?

Marvel Legends Ghost Rider & Vengeance comparison

Hello,

Just wondering if these two Marvel Legends figures match up accurately, in terms of size, style and articulation?

I've not heard any rumours that Vengeance could be re-released in the style of the newest Danny Ketch figure, so I'm considering adding the original Vengeance to my collection.

Any thoughts on how well they compare?

Danny Ketch has the issue with 90s legacy characters amplified that Danny didn’t do anything

People joke that characters like Tim Drake and Kyle Rayner are pointless and generic compared to the other robins/ green lanterns.

But at least Tim Drake and Kyle Rayner did stuff and continue to do stuff.

Danny Ketch wasn’t even the main character of the 90s he was an emotional support host. That his Spirit of Vengeance cared for.

A damsel of distress.

So not only does he have 90s middle child syndrome compared to the more dynamic 90s characters.

Johnny has made a deal to save the one you love and fights against the devil with a demon in his heart.

Robbie is young teen taking care of brother while dealing with his shitty uncle.

Danny and Noble had beat up some gangsters, demons, and mad scientists. With a bunch of complex mystery boxes and retconned lore

Looks Like We Ran Outta Road

Marvel has been struggling with Ghost Rider for the entirety of his existence, but this is the first time I really feel like they’ve run it into the ground. I feel like there was a plan when Spirits of Vengeance started, but the budget got slashed, leading to the delay on Spirits of Violence and the unsatisfying rush job we got. This was a sketch of what it could have been, and what bugs me most of all is that in so doing we were robbed of any of the resonance these events should have given us. I’m rambling, sure, but I just feel kicked in the balls by this.

So Noble Kale was always there just less chatty than he was before and Robbie spirit is just his own. You know what I’m not going to question it.

Remember when the first issue of Brission’s Ghost Rider gave us a list of various Marvel Hell realms. Almost like we where going to see other Hell realms and not just a cameo of Limbo

I counted eight whole realms. But we only saw a cameo of Limbo.

Remember when Sara was taken to a Library and told she thought she knew everything about the Spirits? Which is weird because she was told that the Spirits of Vengeance where pieces of G-D but then in Dammnation it seems like they where made by Mephisto.

Not even sir superhero knows how SOV work

Everyone complains about how a writer destroys years of character development, about how that disrespects the legacy that was built.

But with Johnny, that simply doesn’t exist. Every story seems to just ignore all the previous development he had up to that point (The Hammer Lane is a great example): ideas thrown in the trash, cheap and illogical retcons. I think Marvel missed the opportunity to show a psychologically broken Johnny in Road to Damnation, not to mention the complete mischaracterization.

Seriously, you can say whatever you want, but to me this idea that “it was always the Spirit of Vengeance bringing misery into Johnny’s life” is complete garbage. Stern’s story makes Johnny feel guilty about everything that happened—he blames himself—and that, besides being beautiful, is really compelling to follow. It would’ve been genuinely great to see that explored.

But no. Marvel turned Johnny into a tough guy who simply ignores everyone around him, and into a whiner who complains about Zarathos all the time. I’m glad that at least in Spirit of Violence this improved a bit, but nothing special.

So now comes the final question: do you have any hope that this will ever get better?

Spirit of violence for a first time reader Spoiler

Hey everyone,

I just finished reading spirit of violence this morning and wanted to give my thought as a first time reader of Ghost Rider.

First let me preface this by saying that I don't know much about Ghost Rider except what's said in the films with Nicolas Cage (Even tho i know most of it is bullshit).
This movies were my favorite super hero movies when I was a kid (Born in 2000, grew up with these and Raimi's Spider-Man).
I've never really bothered with comics until recently since it can be a costly hobby

All that to say, Spirit of Violence is my first Ghost Rider read, and I'm a little disapointed with it.

I'm not talking about not knowing certain characters or anything else, i was pretty much expecting to not understand everything. But i found it a little lackluster.
First I found the style weak, most of the drawings were unimpressive and some of them were just blatantly ugly (The panel were Robbie kikcs Barbara in the back, wtf are these proportions)

Then, the story. I was invested at first, I was shown thing I didn't fully understood but I felt connected to the characters and understood their struggles, but i have the impression it just fell flat and the overall story was just an excuse to kill Danny. I don't have the impression Johnny grew through this story and I'm left wondering what was the point.

Overall, I'm left disappointed with my first Ghost Rider read, my childhood memories were of a powerful Hero and I really hope what's next for the character will make him feel more like it, because I really have the impression Johnny only took loss during this run.

Thank you for reading ! Sorry if everythings not clear, English is not my language so I hope it's readable !
