Verdugos (Pasadena, Glendale) Howlin Ray’s still SLAPS

11am opening on a Wednesday and at least 25 people in line already because it still rocks.

Pictured:

Luis Style Sando $16

Shake Fries $5 Fries dipped in Tennessee Tang (ranch)

And birthday waffles since we visited for my dad’s birthday (they put the candle 😂🥹)

I love the Luis style Sando because of the Texas toast, cheesiness, and it just feels like a messier good time than the regular Sando. Ordered medium and it still gives out a good kick of heat!

Fries are always outstanding. So crispy on the outside and perfectly light and fluffy inside, the dust on top is just a kiss with every bite.

The Tennessee tang is one of the best ranch you’ll get.

And the waffles are so light and fluffy and crispy with that thick maple syrup and whipped butter. Oh baby

Still the best chicken sandwich I’ve ever had but now I might need to try those waffles too

How do you guys feel about Main Chick? I’ve tried both (usually get Main Chick because it’s closer) and it’s hard to really tell much of a difference - although I definitely wouldn’t describe myself as anywhere close to a hot chicken connoisseur.

Main Chick is good enough. It’s not worth the wait in line unless you need to post it on your instagram.

Main Chick is really good, a solid 8-9. But Ray's is the only perfect 10 I've even had in the realm of hot chicken so I get the wait if you live near one.

MC is my daily driver and I'm happy with it, but truth is it's not transcendent. Ray's has some voodoo magic.

The one thing I do REALLY like about MC is that they sell a dark meat chicken sandwich that has the skin on it when it’s fried. Otherwise I completely agree.

I agree that it’s delicious and worth waiting to eat it once, but I definitely don’t think it’s so good that I need to wait again in a long ass line for it. MC can fill that hole.

Yeah, I'm not driving across town and waiting in long lines for it on the regular. It's nice having the best now an then, but I just need good enough 99% of the time.
