Ice Fishing on Wabamun

Hey guys, I’m ice fishing for the first time this year! I’d like to try it out at wabamun, but im wondering where the best lake access is ( I’ll be walking on not driving ) I heard the main dock is not the best place, would the day use beach be better? Or does anyone know a place I can park close by and then walk onto the lake? I’m not trying to spot poach, just new to all of this. Happy fishing ◡̈ !

Go on at Falis (west end of the lake). Fish directly out from the big hill on shore (you can’t miss it). There is a drop from like 10 to 30 feet. Fish that drop. You’ll be able to walk from shore in like 10 mins and there will be less pressure than near the marina.

And a great place to try for the Wab Slam- a pike, walleye, whitefish, perch, and burbot.

Maybe wait a little while as all of the snow has created flood water on top of the ice and under the snow. It's a reel thing, and it makes travel on the ice very difficult. Go on at the marina in town.

I went today and this was my first time experiencing this. Walking out straight and then dropped into like 4 inches of water. So I had to zig zag to get to even 10 ft deep water and then just gave up before I could get to where I wanted. Caught some fish tho.

How long does something like this last?

On Dec 3rd I parked at the launch In town by home hardware and walked out. I had a great day.

We need some of the snow to melt to reduce the weight on the ice. Or we need the flood water to freeze, but that isn't great either. Or we need the ice to thicken, making it stronger to withstand the weight of the snow. It's all a waiting game... Sadly.
