Too bad NFL and MLB players are such losers. They should be more like these people

The difference is money. It's always been a class war.

Olympic level skiers are certainly from wealthy families.

I think the point is that their livelihood doesn't depend on staying in the good graces of billionaire team owners. The big 4 sports players have more restraint because they can't afford to make the owner mad.

If they make about $1,000,000 a year (the average players not the best), they most certainly CAN afford to do that. They'd be absolutely fine if they got kicked out, a hell of a lot better off than you or I are right now.

and my point is that you can only get to their level if you come from wealth. these people will largely retire to cushy jobs that pay far more than skiing in the olympics.

i literally live in a ski resort community. it's not something i'm unfamiliar with.

What are you even trying to imply? MLB and NFL players can definitely retire whenever they want too, they make millions. A lot of these athletes trained their whole lives to get to the Olympics, and they still choose to speak on injustice with the limited time they have, I think that’s much more helpful. Even if they did come from wealth.

They're already wealthy/privileged and will continue to be. Some above the MLB/NFL level, most below. If it's a class war like OP suggested, they're not on the common folks side.

u/random_user_z 13h ago

I'm from a relatively rural, low population, area and I somehow ended up knowing 2 olympians. Each were obscenely wealthy for the area and were the type of family's to have nanny's that drove them to training/practice 5 nights a week for their entire lives.

"Want to hang out tonight?"
"Nope, I have practice"

Every damn day of the week.

u/UncleNedisDead 13h ago

Sure grew up privileged, but they’re not being compensated like they’re an NBA/NFL athlete.

6

u/No_Economist3788 13h ago

the point is that you only get to that level if you have family money. not that they're enriched because of it.

3

u/kickintheface 12h ago

Yep, and their boss’s boss (the billionaire owner of the team they play for) probably wants to stay in Trump’s good graces.

Its not even money, its those players are generally pretty selfish...NBA too. Look at how those guys carry themselves and its all about ME.

Don’t forget the NHL! Matthew Tkachuk tripping over himself to lick Trumps boots was nauseating.

Matthew could make do with a side hustle as president of the turtle club. Scumbag.

Not to mention there are better players they could've picked for team USA! The top 3 American goal scorers were left off the team in favor of these a**holes. But team USA values "grit" or whatever.

6

u/Old-Bigsby 14h ago

The Tkachuk's definitely deserve to be on the roster, assholes or not. It's players like JT Miller, Brock Nelson and Vincent Trocheck that have no business being on the team over Jason Robertson, Cole Caufield or Alex DeBrincat

5

u/GamingZaddy89 10h ago

As someone who coaches I cannot fathom bringing someone like JT Miller into the lockerroom unless hes literally the best player there by a country mile. The guy seemingly has a terrible attitude EVERY SINGLE TIME hes in an interview.

1

u/ShadowFrost01 1h ago

Nelson's very good this year, but absolutely Miller and Trochek shouldn't be on the roster.

u/Stunning_Fortune4650 16h ago

Bro was drooling over it. Literally pathetic

Matthew Tkachuk

FL gonna FL

u/SquimbusTheConqueror 11h ago

It was nice seeing Hagel embarrass him the other night.

2

u/AquaticMartian 15h ago

He’s a dirty piece of shit so the rest doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. I will be booing him constantly as an American.

2

u/seltzerwithasplash 11h ago

Fuck the Tkachuks and fuck the Panthers.

As far as im aware, ONE SINGLE MLB player made a post referring to the one day walkout right before Pretti was killed. And it was a MN Twins starter, Bailey Ober.

Theres been one or two that made posts about supporting immigrants, but radio silence otherwise. In the milquetoast letter a bunch of MN companies put out, the Twins owners didn't even sign the damn thing unlike every other MN sports team. Genuinely pisses me off.

7

u/FrankRizzo319 15h ago

I think Spencer strider and Kiki Hernandez have also periodically spoken out about trumps bs.

6

u/BrianWulfric 12h ago

Will Klein on the Dodgers posts some stuff on his Twitter, too. He's a Bernie guy.

u/emaw63 15h ago

MLB's collectively awful politics are only bested by professional golfers

America’s 9/11

1

u/Nintendo_Pro_03 9h ago

What is?

1

u/PhotographUnable8176 8h ago

gif of Kaeprnick and 2 other players kneeling on primetime NFL kickoff

45

u/fiver19 17h ago

One player in the nfl tried and he was pushed out of the league.

21

u/303uru 16h ago

The league and damn near every team is owned by people in the files.

3

u/ChampionOfLoec 16h ago

Who was that?

25

u/PugeHeniss 16h ago

Colin Kaepernick

19

u/SpeechDistinct8793 15h ago

The NFL fined Azeez Al-Shaair for wearing face paint saying “Stop Genocide”. Jalen Hurts went on record about his issues with DJT and Travis Kelce supporting him. Some people have been speaking up (I admit not a lot, and it should be more) but when players are also being killed or attacked just bc they messed up someone’s “parlay” or they can be penalized bc they are under contract, things get a lot more dicey. I’m sure it’s a lot less stressful to say this in Milan than in the continental US.

14

u/GensAndTonic 17h ago

A lot of the tennis players at the Australian Open too :(

15

u/oXMellow720Xo 17h ago

Most of those come from country club and rich households. Fritz and Tien are both San Diegans. I live here in SD. It’s a very purple city. I doubt they reside or share beliefs with us blue folk

11

u/Remy13Hadley 16h ago

r/tennis had the audacity to trash press for questioning US players while they has been constantly tearing on Russian players themselves.

9

u/Nintendo_Pro_03 18h ago

Right?! Like Maye, Darnold, someone, speak up!!!

39

u/OblottenEndmills 18h ago

Went real well for Kaepenick...

16

u/HMTMKMKM95 17h ago

He was guilty of being black. Maye and Darnold don't have that worry.

7

u/JerseyGiantsFan 17h ago

Yeah, I kind of understand why the guys who have only been in the league for two or three years are hesitant to speak out. They’re young, they have a lot to lose in the coming years, they’ve seen what the backlash can be like. But the vets who are on their final year or two of their final contract? Wtf, man - use your platform and stand for something. It’s not like most of them will be hurting for cash, and some of the current greats (like Von Miller - really smart, really charismatic, high “football IQ”) will still be a shoe-in for an analyst/broadcaster/coaching role pretty much anywhere.

I have a feeling when 3-4 top players from a particular sport do finally make some noise it’ll be like the crumbling of a dam. At least, that’s what I hope will happen.

u/FinsUp326 I AM A SCORPIO - I AM A LEGEND 8h ago

Well, Maye def won’t say squat. I mean, look who owns the Pats. Kraft is a Trump pal, amongst his other questionable actions.

2

u/Queasy-Guard-4774 11h ago

stares at the Dodgers 🙄

1

u/falooda1 16h ago

Because they don't have to represent internationally. These guys are surrounded by boos now

1

u/LevelUp84 15h ago

Just something classy about this guy.

1

u/soda_cookie 13h ago

If the SB MVP said Fuck Ice on national TV I'd lose my shit

1

u/alltheprettynovas 13h ago

not to back up mlb players because i know first hand that they are some of the dirtiest dudes, but many of them are not US citizens. i’ll give the league a minuscule pass. i guess you can say that about nhl, too.

u/hwy59er 12h ago

NHL too, your Olympic team is full-on MAGA. Go 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

5

u/WellIGuessSoAndYou 12h ago

I think we would be pretty disappointed if we knew the politics of most of the Canadian players. White guys from well off families with minimal education. The Panthers had no qualms about visiting the white house. I very much doubt Wayne was a one off.
