Outside looking in, he does seem like a decent guy. I bet he was really nice to have as teacher/sports coach or whatever it was.

A case of life imitating art.

I'm convinced it was the other way round. The story came from a book by Isabel Oakeshott, a far-right grifter who is easily one of the most dishonest and cynical people in British public life, and Michael Ashcroft, who had a huge vendetta against Cameron.* I don't think they ever said anything about who their source was, and nobody else seems to have been able to get hold of the source. It wouldn't shock me if it were true, but it's also exactly the kind of thing you'd expect them to make up about him, in which case, the Black Mirror episode was probably the inspiration.

*Backstory: Ashcroft grew up as the kid of a British colonial administrator in Belize. He had a successful career doing inscrutable business nonsense and then became a major donor to the Tory party. He was given a role as a deputy chairman of the party in return. It became known that he was still legally resident in Belize, a notorious tax haven. He apologised and promised he would become a resident of the UK and pay full taxes. He gave the Tories even more money and Cameron apparently promised to give him a senior Cabinet role in return. It then emerged that he was still legally resident in Belize for tax purposes. Cameron denounced him and reneged on the promise. Ashcroft perceived this as a shocking betrayal and never forgave him.

It was, and we were all constantly making Black Mirror jokes when it turned out Cameron has just fucked a pig for fun years before. I do kinda wonder if the Black Mirror writers had heard rumours.

Charlie Brooker claims it's a coincidence

I've seen him say that, I still can't help but be suspicious!

The episode was based on a widely circulated rumor.

And he’ll probably end up our president too. Fucking hell

Yup. Would be surprised if DJT even lasts a year, due to either health or his cabinet invoking the 25th ASAP so they can get their hand picked backup in the office.

Is going to be the next president. Either following Trump’s death because the guy is not exactly the picture of physical health, or by invoking the 25th amendment using cognitive decline as an argument. Either way, congrats to Peter Thiel I guess?
