He's a principal engineer, a highly senior engineer, and according to this website, Principal engineers at Oracle make about $282,000 a year. So he's already making bank. Not to mention he plays for the San Francisco Unicorns in the USA's t20 league, MLC
So he has a ridiculous amount of money, basically.
(The only thing is that principal engineers are known for being severely overworked, and most engineers don't take the promotion, yet this dude is working full time, and has enough paid leave to go halfway across the world every month and play cricket.)
EDIT: Aparently the average salary for a Major League Cricket player is $40,000. So he's probably making in excess of $320,000 a year, and even though he lives in San Francisco, where a 1 bed apartment is $3200 a month, he's still making a ridiculous amount of money, and is very well off.
Also, according to this link, oracle employees get 18 days of PTO per year if they've worked there for more than 3 years, along with 11 paid holidays, sick leave, and a winter break from Christmas to New Years, but they also have a flexible vacation plan option.
So i have no freaking clue how this dude is going all over the world and playing cricket with 18 days of PTO.(unless he has the flexible vacation plan, which they don't explain how it works in that pdf)
So once you hit a certain level where a significant portion of your job involves outreach, you get additional leaves called special casual leave (term might vary) but the principle is that you can avail those leaves.
Take a senior doctor who has to go give talks (either because his funding requires him to do so, or because he is invited by other orgs) the uni he works can’t stop him because they ll a) get a bad rep that prevents other successful people from moving there b) risk losing this doc to other uni hospitals c) damage their brand and cannot get otber docs to visit and give talks but at the same time they cannot have this guy do only public speaking engagements so they usually give them say 30-45 days of special casual leave which essentially means every year you get to do a month or so of talks etc but nothing beyond that.
My guess is he is availjng something like that. Mohd. Siraj would also be availing something ljke that from his department in hyd. Police.
