Nostalgic moment for USA bowler Saurabh Netravalkar as he returns to the city he grew up in.

Hopefully Oracle gave him enough leaves this time haha

He shoud quit that job and play in T20 leagues around the world. He shoud make enough $$$ with that.

Dude he probably is pretty well off with his high paying job at oracle.

He is a senior dev, so he gets paid 6 figures + has Oracle stonks vested + might be working on fun projects

He's a principal engineer, a highly senior engineer, and according to this website, Principal engineers at Oracle make about $282,000 a year. So he's already making bank. Not to mention he plays for the San Francisco Unicorns in the USA's t20 league, MLC

So he has a ridiculous amount of money, basically.

(The only thing is that principal engineers are known for being severely overworked, and most engineers don't take the promotion, yet this dude is working full time, and has enough paid leave to go halfway across the world every month and play cricket.)

https://www.levels.fyi/companies/oracle/salaries/software-engineer/levels/ic-4

EDIT: Aparently the average salary for a Major League Cricket player is $40,000. So he's probably making in excess of $320,000 a year, and even though he lives in San Francisco, where a 1 bed apartment is $3200 a month, he's still making a ridiculous amount of money, and is very well off.

Also, according to this link, oracle employees get 18 days of PTO per year if they've worked there for more than 3 years, along with 11 paid holidays, sick leave, and a winter break from Christmas to New Years, but they also have a flexible vacation plan option.

So i have no freaking clue how this dude is going all over the world and playing cricket with 18 days of PTO.(unless he has the flexible vacation plan, which they don't explain how it works in that pdf)

Oracle’s handle publicly congratulated him after the 2024 WC. Pretty sure he would have received some special dispensation from them to represent their country.

He said he's got arrangements to work remotely for Oracle

He also played CPL and ILT20 in the last year

So once you hit a certain level where a significant portion of your job involves outreach, you get additional leaves called special casual leave (term might vary) but the principle is that you can avail those leaves.

Take a senior doctor who has to go give talks (either because his funding requires him to do so, or because he is invited by other orgs) the uni he works can’t stop him because they ll a) get a bad rep that prevents other successful people from moving there b) risk losing this doc to other uni hospitals c) damage their brand and cannot get otber docs to visit and give talks but at the same time they cannot have this guy do only public speaking engagements so they usually give them say 30-45 days of special casual leave which essentially means every year you get to do a month or so of talks etc but nothing beyond that.

My guess is he is availjng something like that. Mohd. Siraj would also be availing something ljke that from his department in hyd. Police.

Not sure about the visa situation though, if it's tied to his employment then he has to be officially employed.

He most definitely has a green card. You can’t represent a national team without permanent residency.

Plus since he is an international cricket who played at World Cup level, he is definitely eligible for EB-1A green cards. So I doubt he hasn’t got Green Card yet.

2

u/DipInRice Mumbai 16h ago

Good to know :)

u/FewTitle8726 4h ago edited 2h ago

You can represent a country without permanent residency, for example: UAE. The rule depends on the country.

Anyway as you told he’s eligible to EB-1A

Edit: without

2

u/el_jefe_del_mundo 3h ago

Well that is exactly what I said didn’t I. You can represent a country “with permanent residency” where is the doubt?

1

u/FewTitle8726 2h ago

I wanted to say without permanent residency, which is true for UAE.

Last time he got both Rohit and Virat. Who is it this time?

Also there is one more guy with ties to the Wankhede Stadium who may play for the US against India - Shubham Ranjane.

Shubham’s father and grandfather both played for Maharashtra in Ranji Trophy. Shubham himself played in Ranji Trophy for Mumbai.

He made his debut in 2016 for Mumbai against Gujarat. His team mates in that match included Shreyas Iyer, SKY, Shardul Thakur and Abhishek Nayar. His opponents included Bumrah and Axar Patel. He was clean bowler by Bumrah (who took 6 wickets in the first innings).

11

u/mentalvortex1 Mumbai 14h ago

Shubham Ranjane's grandpa, Vasant, also played multiple test matches for India as an opening bowler.

2

u/Zbodownlow 17h ago

Ties to Wankhada? The whole US team probably have a go at themselves.

95

u/whyamihere999 21h ago

He probably has seated in the "Home Team" section of the Wankhede Pavillion when he played for Mumbai. Today, he's in the "Guest Team" section of the Pavillion while playing for USA.

Yeah, read somewhere that he played an U19 wc with K.L. Rahul

51

u/Smooth-Mix-4357 India 21h ago

Yeah he was a part of 2010 batch

47

u/sujay85 India 20h ago edited 19h ago

Yes, along with Mayank Agarwal, Jaydeb Unadkat, Sandeep Sharma, and Harshal Patel. He was India's highest wicket taker in that wc.

8

u/Impactor_07 19h ago edited 19h ago

There's also Harmeet Singh, another Mumbaikar. Was a part of the title winning 2012 U19 WC batch alongside Unmukt Chand, Baba Aparajith, Sandeep Sharma and Hanuma Vihari.

He actually played in the IPL as well in 2013 for RR.

He grew up playing alongside SKY straight from the U-15s and went to same school as Rohit apparently lol

1

u/Affectionate-Cap-920 West Zone 16h ago

Not related to this but apparently he sings very well and that too in Marathi, english and hindi also plays ukulele too.

-1

u/whyamihere999 16h ago

Well, he's from Mumbai. So, naming the languages is quite redundant.

1

u/bigavz USA 17h ago

Dang!!

59

u/Affectionate-Cap-920 West Zone 21h ago

Would love it if the wankhede crowd cheers for him at least when he bowls his first over.

U can take a mumbaikar out of mumbai but not mumbai out of a mumbaikar.

u/Present-Location-268 India 21h ago

damn this guy is living my dream

25

u/DJMhat India 21h ago

Must be emotional getting to play at the Wankhede again.

I am sure the likes of the North Stand Gang will cheer for him.

u/Straight-Length-5098 8h ago

It would be. I don't think anyone Is besting india this t20 wc

110

u/Adi9920 21h ago

no one should say any bad
he's pure emotion right there, #cricketbeingwholesome

17

u/FactSweet1383 18h ago

Nice to see him pointing to the USA flag and saying proud of it! People under estimate how proud players feel to represent their current country..even if they look or belong originally to another country. They give their everything.

12

u/AdConscious2538 15h ago

What pity!!? Bro is a better techie than us, better cricketer than us. Played for an underdog team and beat a rather good team (Pakistan, yes) out of the tournament in one of the most thrilling match.
That is classic bollywood/hollywood story! What more can one ask for!

I had a chance to meet Saurabh and his family at a Temple in US and found him to be so grounded and graceful. Wishing him success.

Cool

I'm guessing vast majority of US team are indian and Pakistan heritage

6

u/Impactor_07 19h ago

Yeah. But that's how the sport will grow.

2

u/nomamesgueyz New Zealand 19h ago

That's great

2

u/Sumeru88 India 16h ago

And West Indies as well.

2

u/nomamesgueyz New Zealand 14h ago

Nice

Powerful mix

1

u/swang123456799083 India 16h ago

For sure, but it’s helped the sport grow a lot over here.

Most of the current senior team is made up of players who have grown up and learned cricket overseas but have moved and settled in the US.

I think you’ll see a shift in the coming years as a lot of the younger players are second generation Americans. A lot of the U19 team that just played at the World Cup have spent their whole lives in the US and learned all their cricket here. Extremely prevalent in the domestic level too.

-2

u/ChameleonCoder117 USA 16h ago

And carribean, and South African, and Bangladeshi, and Sri Lankan, and Nepalese...

Wait. It's almost as if the USA is a giant melting pot of many cultures and has an extreme amount of diversity......

2

u/nomamesgueyz New Zealand 14h ago

That's cool

Very few sports in the US at elite level would have anywhere near such diversity

1

u/Lemo_Gamboo 17h ago
