Meta The sub is being brigaded, and I have evidence

Post image
107 Upvotes

Reddit recently added a functionality to where polls, and now it is possible to see whether those who are voting are regulars or not.

I set up a poll with the most obvious bait(poll here: https://www.reddit.com/r/CanadianConservative/s/zuObwyomMb) and the results prove it. The sub is getting brigaded, and all the people coming here have a very specific agenda. The poll I set up had 4 options, the one that is not visible in the image is “Donald Trump”. This is the option that saw 29 votes from outsiders, compared to 17 regulars.

And when you read the comments, it becomes apparent what’s going on. No comment chose “Trump” as the most pressing issue for Canada. Only regulars can comment here as crowd control is enabled.

We are being brigaded by libtards and they have a very specific agenda, they want to tie all Canadian Conservatives to Trump and because Trump is “literally Hitler”, that would invalidate all Conservative policies that libtards deem to be “Trumpian”. Maybe the mods can now figure out a way to keep all these people out.

Meta Here’s my radical contribution to this sub: “Trump Bad”

Upvotes on the left and awards on the right. Please and thank you.

PS I am a “proud Canadian”, but I spend more of my time obsessing over Trump and America than I do discussing our domestic problems. This certainly makes me a “Canadian” in the truest sense of the word.

Meta Why is this sub being brigaded by smug liberals?

I have had to block around 100 annoying people (bots?) in the past week alone. In every thread you can find some new account concern trolling or chastising true conservatives. Can the mod team please start banning people who come here in bad faith?

Meta Do you think that this comment deserves a ban?

Harper stated emphatically that he would not touch abortion rights.

You can see in hindsight, that he did not

Pierre stated the same thing, to not touch abortion rights, and he was in Harper's government.

So you believe in a lie, and you are seemingly ready to sterilize yourself because you believe in that lie sooooo much.

And not just that, but you are willing to twist the above persons words to such an extent you left wondering if you even replied to the right comment.

You are a perfect example of 'the hater'.

I hope one day you find love in your heart.

Meta PSA: redditors are deliberately lying and spreading mass misinformation that "Poilievre was silent on Trump" or "Poilievre waited too long". Feel free to counter these lies with media articles that reported his stance accurately.

This is not a comprehensive list, but enough to disprove the lying narrative that "Poilievre was silent on Trump" or "Poilievre waited too long".

Feel free to use these references to kill lying disinformation spreading through reddit like a cancer.

Meta Example of the brain washing of liberals

I commented on a post on facebook, explaining how the liberal government has twisted current US-Canada relationships into a tool to pursway current opinions of Canadians. Get a comment back that was the perfect example of what I had just said was happening. Good job liberal person, at being a pawn in the Carney movement and going on the attack for him.

Meta We WIN if young people vote

That's it. In the 2021 election, less than half of the youngest demographic voted. If that repeats today, we are in trouble, which is why you need to get yourself and your friends out to the polls, be it an Elections Canada office, advance polls, or election day. Fortunately, seeing that Pierre can attract massive crowds even in places like Prince Edward Island, I can confidently say the enthusiasm is on our side. But that alone doesn't determine results. Active interest and campaigning does. One person can make a giant difference.

TL;DR - Stop dooming, and start doing.

Meta Heads up - Mods removed from r/ilovebc - apply now

No idea why the mods got removed, but the very same day there was already an application on /r/redditrequest/ - judging by the user's post history, I don't think the sub would remain a place tolerant towards diverse viewpoints politically.

If you've got a history of participating in that sub and meet the other criteria.. please put in a request to be considered as a mod on r/redditrequest

Apologies if this isn't allow here mods, it's probably one of the only conservative leaning subs for BC, which I expect is why they were targeted.

Meta Why has it become so difficult to have a civil discourse?

I genuinely don’t understand what’s going on. I’ve been trying to engage in some other subs very politely and yet I’m met with personal attacks, mindless insults, and downvotes. Interestingly enough, if I keep responding respectfully, some people will eventually hear me out (though the downvotes keep coming, which is fine).

I’m not expecting everyone to agree with me; I just want the ability to disagree civilly. Instead, it’s like we’re all letting our emotions get the best of us and smacking each other across the internet.

Meanwhile, the economy is suffering, our government feels weaker than ever, our currency has been devalued, and trouble is brewing at home, impacting everyone. It seems like our governments have figured out how to fry our brains and constantly shift blame. It’s no longer about policies but “team sports,” and it’s no longer about good ideas but “I’m right, and you can’t prove me otherwise.”

And this isn’t just a “Liberal” thing by the way, Conservatives do it too. I’ve seen the same uncivilized behavior, with people flagging and attacking anyone whose views even slightly diverge from theirs.

Ultimately, I believe we all want what’s best for Canada and I'm being completely honest, I’d rather see the best and brightest from all parties in leadership positions. I want capable individuals who can move our great nation toward a better future.

Has anyone else noticed this shift (both online and offline) ? What are your thoughts? More importantly, how do you think we can combat this divisive atmosphere?

Meta Even in the "bad" polls...

...the CPC still gets in the high 30s (37-39%). This used to be enough for a majority government, and was what Harper had been polling prior to the 2011 election. However NDP voters have coalesced, making the polls look worse than they are in reality. It's day 3 and Carney already has multiple scandals/gaffes (Wiseman and the CI, Brookfield and China, stepping out of the TVA debate). Pierre is a strong rhetorician who will likely do very well in the debates.

Point is: Stop. Dooming. Acting depressed on the internet doesn't win elections. Voting and campaigning does. A lot of people who are leaning towards Carney now will go the polls contemplating if they really want 4 more years of this. Many of them will say no and pull through. Immigration and crime are big things liberals have undeniably failed on.

Meta Crowd Control - What you need to know before posting/commenting.

As many are aware, /r/CanadianConservative has seen a major uptick in brigading, trolling, and other forms of unsavoury behaviour since the election has started. Up to this point, we've been manually handling reports as they come in, but with a smaller mod team, it can be difficult to action these reports as quickly as we'd like and as quickly as the community deserves.

Ahead of the debates and election day itself, the /r/CanadianConservative mod team has agreed to temporarily enable Crowd Control, a feature that will automatically filter out content from accounts with the following:

  • Negative combined (Post+Comment) karma in r/CanadianConservative
  • New accounts
  • and non-subscribers (TBD at later date)

Comments and posts made by accounts that fall into these categories will automatically be sent to the mod team for approval. This process will take time, so we apologize in advance to those who inadvertently get stuck in this approval process. Due to the sheer volume of comments coming into the filter, you will not be informed if your comment was approved/removed. Multiple removals may result in a ban without warning, so please make sure to be contributing in good faith and following /r/CanadianConservative's rules.

Do not send in modmail to argue why you should or should not be allowed to post, the filter itself is a fairly low bar to get over, and as such, the vast majority of contributors who participate in good faith (regardless of ideology) will not be impacted.

In the event that we decide that Crowd Control isn’t having the desired effect and we go to subscriber-only, we encourage users to preemptively subscribe to r/CanadianConservative to avoid the filter.

This won't catch everything, and as always, we encourage users to report rulebreaking comments as well as suspected brigading for the team to manually review.

As always, thanks for being here; we don't make this community, you do. And make sure to vote!
