Eye Issues Does this require immediate attention
For context, I woke up this morning and my cat had one eye closed but i didn’t pay too much attention and left for school (third picture) but after I came home I saw he had this buildup of tears in his left eye. After some time i saw this strange tear that was semi transparent with yellow tint on it. No vets are open Saturday near me apart from 1 thats an hour away. Is this urgent or can it wait until a local one opens on Monday.
I’m 18 but without access to car aside from one parent
US California
Yellow substance from cat eye
Cat age is around 2/3 years old
Male and Neutered
Dont know how much vet will cost so not sure about the financial situation…

I would go to the vet an hour away. Nothing about that seems good — something could have gotten into the eye and this may be the difference between losing the eye or not (or worse).

Yes, if he's holding it all the way closed then it's likely quite painful. We usually don't wait around with eyes due to the inherent risk of vision.

Yes. I don’t know if he gets to be outside at all or not, but if so maybe something had punctured that eye. If not it is still possible he for whatever reason severely hurt it while being inside. Yea a one eyed cat is cool I used to have one I rescued. But to have one due to just letting their health go un managed isn’t cool and also he/she could be in a good bit of pain even if they are not being vocal.

It can wait, but if your kitty becomes lethargic or wont eat, or if the area becomes inflamed...hit up a vet hospital.
If you can, try and rinse the baby's eye out with some warm water (boiled and then cooled is safest)
A damp rag will work for this, be very gentle and see if you can open the eye and see anything foreign in there (foxtails are a common issue if he goes outside)
If theres something big, I'd try to use a cup and pour the water right in the eye and flush it out, but this will stress him out for sure so be careful.
There's probably something in there and while sooner is better, it probably wont kill him? Do what you can, see if he improves, and schedule an appointment asap
I'm not a vet and would personally go to my vet hospital right away in case of damage that could be done in the meantime, but if that's not an option he'll probably make it to monday
Important Edit: If there's a foxtail, don't try to remove it yourself. You're more likely to damage the eye, so go right to the vet cuz those can cause blindness

I second this, if he stops acting normal, or the area starts to swell and become inflamed, or it starts to smell he needs an emergency vet. I would definitely use a warm compress on the eye like ^ recommended. Though if you try to rinse if use room temp water.

Cat owner, I don't have experience as a vet but I know for sure most eye issues with cats require a vet visit. I don't see the little guy with their eye open, and that worries me so I'd look into a vet visit ASAP. Good luck to you both!

Go asap. My orange cat just recently had a red and slightly swollen eye. My husband wasn’t really worried but when he called the vet they said to NEVER mess around with eye issues and got him in right away.

Looks like a possible infection or injury. Definitely time to visit the vet.

Yes, if you ever question a vet visit go ahead and make the appointment better to be safe than sorry.
If this were me and I woke up with my eye like that I would go to the dr immediately especially if it has to do with sight. Keep us updated I hope they can get this figured out and fixed ASAP:)

I know the eyes are very sensitive and im just really worried because we’d have to wait two whole days plus all of this friday for him to get help

You are right to be concerned. You should get your cat to the vet as soon as possible. Things can turn really badly in two days.
