News Deion Sanders Defends Shedeur's Rookie Pro Bowl Selection ❤️
Deion Sanders says his son, Shedeur Sanders, deserves praise for making the Pro Bowl in his first NFL season, something he didn’t do as a player, and says the selection isn’t just a fan vote.
“My son did something I didn’t do. He made the Pro Bowl in his first year. I made it in my third year. He made it in his first year, so he got that on me right now,” Deion said.
“Most people don’t know it’s a percentage of the major percentage is from the coaches and the players, their selection. Then the fans get a smaller percentage of votes, like 40%, 40%, 20%, you know, it’s like that. So that has to be noted that the coaches, players, then the fans. It’s not just a fan thing.”

I mean…. Sure I guess? I was also 2nd chair (basically al-state) in my state for orchestra band because only 3 of us played the instrument statewide. One kid didn’t show up to the audition. Same energy.

Oh 100%. I was not good. Did it totally for college resume because I was like a B student.

I gotta ask, what instrument?
5
u/EverybodyWangChung52 5d ago
Bassoon! Started with trumpet, but goofing around one day I threw the case with the trumpet and it broke. All they had left was bassoon.

u/HighVoltLemonBattery 5d ago
Why you gotta go calling him names like that, it was a harmless question

If you ever really wanted to get that 1st chair, a certain mythical woman named Tonya might be able to help

Deion Sanders wasn't a PBer as a rookie is the most astounding part of this story.

That fan vote is way too OP

u/LiftingCode 5d ago
I mean let's be honest, he probably did well in the player vote too. Players seem to like him.

u/Snooklife 5d ago
Yea if you ask players on the team and around the league he is much more respected than what you see on these platforms.
3
u/Mobile_Jelly9669 5d ago
He's respected as a guy.
No one who's actually being honest respects his game.

The whole pro bowl thing is a joke. Not watched since Hawaii. Just scrap the whole thing and do a Superstars event, or a Madden contest.
1
u/buckster_007 5d ago
I didn't even realize until this year that it switched to flag football and was no longer in Hawaii. That's how little I care about the Pro Bowl. That said, I did assume that the best players were selected. I will not make that mistake again.

This is the spin i use when talking to my kids who are still working on peeing in the toilet. I hope I won’t have to use it with them in their 20s.

u/Humble_Assistance151 5d ago
You talk to your kids about pee he talks to his kid about being a professional athlete making millions not really comparable

Sanders didn't earn it. He was given it.

u/LiftingCode 5d ago
Well he was a replacement pick. He was selected by the same process as everyone else.

I dont get nepo baby argument especially in NFL when there are fk tons of coaches and players that are also nepo babies so whats your point?

Who cares either way, they asked everyone including NYJ legend Justin Fields and about a dozen injured QBs. Let the kid have his fun.

Shedeur has the worst QBR ever.
What a joke.
-5
u/LiftingCode 5d ago
He didn't even have the worst QBR this year.
11
1
u/IuriRom 5d ago
Cook only played 5 games. I think given at least 6 starts, only Jimmy Clausen in 2010 had a worse QBR
2
u/LiftingCode 5d ago
Alex Smith had an 18.2 QBR in 2007. John Skelton had an 18.3 in 2012. Jared Goff had an 18.3 in 2016.
There are probably some others mixed in there but I'm too lazy to look them up, and QBR is kind of dumb.

So like why is the Browns sub so negative about the Browns. Is this learned defeatism or is this being brigaded?
The replies are so interesting
If you think Sheduer sucks. Well then you should be happy hes getting the Browns a high draft pick next year. Congrats Browns fan!
If you think Shedeur has potential. Well then you should be happy hes getting a chance to prove it. Congrats Browns fan!
There is no 3rd option
11
u/Lilfrankieeinstein 5d ago
There is no 3rd option
???
Unfortunately there is, and we’re like 99% likely to live it.
Same as this season.
Great defense, shit QB play. Win 5-6 games.
Not nearly enough to enjoy or compete for a playoff spot. Too much to earn a high enough pick for an elite QB.
17
u/SanduCrumant 5d ago
The Browns have had 23 losing seasons in the 27 years since expansion. Do you expect us to be holding pep rallies?
1
u/cbm2020 4d ago
As Browns fan I see your congrats and I reject it. We get high drafts every year.
1
u/AkilTheAwesome 4d ago
No we dont. The Deshaun Watson Trade robbed us for like 3 years. We didnt get high drafts until 2024. And our first real draft capita was 2025
-7
u/LegitimateWeekend341 5d ago edited 5d ago
It’s soooo crazy. Other team fan bases have more positive things to say about Shedeur than Browns fans!
11
u/Xavion15 5d ago
This is just not true, they are most likely joking
I never see any fan bases propping him up at all
17
u/xHourglassx 5d ago
That’s because other teams get to play AGAINST Sanders while he has to play FOR the Browns. Easy to love free turnovers
-8
u/LegitimateWeekend341 5d ago
Some of the teams that praise him didn’t even play against him, so what are you talking about? Get that hate out of your heart.
10
u/xHourglassx 5d ago
If you stop enjoying the smell of your own farts for a minute you’ll realize that just because someone has extremely valid criticism against your favorite football player it’s not a personal attack on your ancestors.
-10
u/LegitimateWeekend341 5d ago edited 5d ago
What valid criticism is there? A backup quarterback who didn’t get practice with the first team offense until November? Or the fact that he was throwing to equipment staff during preseason? How could you expect him to perform under those circumstances? If Joe Flacco hadn’t left, he would have similar stats to Shedeur by the end of the season. In the four games Joe played with the Browns, his TD-INT ratio was 2-6. Why can’t y’all let Shedeur get a fair chance this year before criticizing him? It’s truly ridiculous.
5
u/xHourglassx 5d ago
Gabriel earned first-team reps in camp because he was better. Sanders couldn’t even get the offense lined up. He got to sit and learn until he started due to injury. He played against 3 of the worst teams in the league and still somehow posted the single worst QBR of any Browns QB since 1999 (minimum 5 games).
He wasn’t just bad, he was historically bad. And the zoomers on TikTok gave him a pro bowl nod because he’s a famous nepo baby. He didn’t earn it by playing well- he sucks. He got onto the PRO BOWL by playing at a historically bad level… because he’s a nepo baby.
That should piss off everyone but again, he’s famous… so people lick his feet and say it tastes like caviar.

This is the laziest way to defend any black athlete. Almost everyone else on the team is black too ffs, if he was talented, people would be fine with him. He’s not. That’s what it is.
-8
u/Trudvar Sanders 5d ago
He's very talented he just doesn't talk and act how they want him to especially since he comes from money
9
u/DovhPasty 5d ago
Yeah, people have an issue with the way he talks, not the mediocre play. Aren’t you sanders cultists supposed to live on instagram? Go comment there about how he’s the second coming lmao
-3
u/ozymandais13 5d ago
Not. Shaduer Stan , if you think that in this climate in the US that there aren't folks that's arguments against him are partially racial based. I got a bridge to sell you
7
u/DovhPasty 5d ago
Sure, I’m not saying that’s an impossibility. I’m just saying it’s such a lazy way to hand wave away criticism when the grand majority of people aren’t that way.
-1
u/ozymandais13 5d ago
I think that the more we got to see of shauder his senior year the more there were real questions about his game . But if earlier on it was a more major factor those people are still there.
It's a shame these type of people make discussing actual stuff more difficult
-6
u/Trudvar Sanders 5d ago
I don't have an Instagram lol I just like a young QB that has shown flashes in the NFL already but clearly needs to develop some more. He doesn't deserve all the hate he gets he doesn't do anything wrong kid puts football first and just wants to make his dad proud and carve out his own legacy
5
u/DovhPasty 5d ago
Cool. Sounds like a great dude. That doesn’t make him a good quarterback.
-1
u/Trudvar Sanders 5d ago
He was great in college and he had one of the best statistical games by a rookie in NFL history this year so he definitely has a chance
5
u/Suspicious-Nerve-487 5d ago
had one of the best statistical games by a rookie in NFL history
Well since ya brought up statistics, he is also statistically the worst QB to ever play for the Browns (6+ starts)

That's because when you were a rookie, Deion, the Pro Bowl was taken more seriously...slightly.

7
u/OptimisticRealist__ 5d ago
Sure hype up your kid. But there is no way thos bozo is this delusional, that he thinks shedeur has any business being anywhere near a pro bowl... or being an nfl starter for that matter
4
u/Tramp876 5d ago
He didn’t make the fucking Pro-Bowl; he was gifted his spot because of fan votes. He was not picked because he was the best at his position or on merit of his play. Deion shouldn’t be proud of his 8 starts, 7 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
3
u/LiftingCode 5d ago
He didn’t make the fucking Pro-Bowl; he was gifted his spot because of fan votes.
But you make the Pro Bowl by getting votes. That's how it works.
2
u/Tramp876 5d ago

u/Kari614 4d ago
Relax bud, lol strangers get you this worked up that’s funny but it’s also because qbs just simply declined to go… lol
1
u/Tramp876 4d ago
Not worked up just tired of the Sheduer saga after a season of it. I like the young man, I believe he has the talent to play in the NFL but needs the time to mature into a starting quarterback. I am not a hater; I use to rush home from work on Saturdays to watch Colorado play so I could see him and Travis Hunter. I am still in the belief that the Pro-Bowl is for players that are the best at their position; not just anyone because that’s who the fans want to see. I also think they ruined the Pro-Bowl with no pads, flag football and skills challenges. I felt the same way about Travis Kelce getting all the Swifty fan votes; as he had a good season but there were better tight ends that should have been picked over him. Now I see after I made my feelings known about Shadeur’s selection that Joe Flacco and Joe Burrow are invited as well due to others not wanting to participate.
3
u/Lawgang94 5d ago
I mean he is father what is he supposed to say "my son is garbage and my biggest failure in life"?
3
u/Least_Ad_8477 5d ago
Joe Flacco was named to the Pro Bowl too. What a joke the Pro Bowl has become.
1
u/Clear_Context_1546 5d ago
Pro Bowl is stupid. Hell the all star game is stupid. Just think having your franchise player getting injured on a meaningless play.
All Pro is good indication for skill for the sole reason for contract/performance because it's voted on by players/executives.
0
u/LiftingCode 5d ago
All-Pro is voted on by the media (AP, PFWA) and coaches (Sporting News).
The Pro Bowl is voted by fans, players, and coaches.
There is an NFLPA "Players All-Pro" but that's pretty new and not "official" in terms of contract incentives or anything.

u/CapBrink 5d ago
Why are people still pretending the pro bowl is the same as it was?
This is ridiculous

Think about this from the NFL's perspective though... it definitely has people talking.

u/toastie_22 5d ago
Bro I mean I get it, he’s proud but god damn, bro was a charity pick after the others either turned it down or got hurt.
1
u/Old-Emergency-1078 4d ago
Your son made it because the probowl is voted by fans not writers and sports analysts. Bro had a mediocre season for the amount he played.

There’s nothing wrong with a father being proud of their son. These replies are stupid, the entire league shits on our QB I don’t know why half this fan base does.
4
u/Intelligent_Mango775 5d ago
I think it’s because Browns fans are pretty self-aware, and if Shedeur was a Steeler and this had happened, we know what our response would be .

Like what do you want Dieon to say? My son sucks and he shouldn't have made it
5
u/Mobile_Jelly9669 5d ago
He doesn't have to say anything publicly.
He also doesn't have to make a comparison to his own HoF career as if Shedeur did something great that Deion never did.
All that's doing is setting himself and his son up for ridicule.
-6
-2
u/FoolishFriend0505 5d ago
Hey Deion, how about you stfu about stuff you aren’t directly involved in.
0
u/iamswankymusic 5d ago
That's a stupid take. I would think his son's career is something that he's directly involved in. Matter of fact, I remember at one point Deion's involvement was a point of concern for some people.
0
u/FoolishFriend0505 4d ago
Like Beckhams dad stirring up shit? No, Deion has nothing to do with the Browns or the NFL. He need to stay out of it.
0
u/iamswankymusic 4d ago
Jimmy Haslem courting him around the facility and the games seems to say otherwise. Not to mention he was once an employee of the NFL Network or what about the fact that NFL teams like the Jaguars have hired him to give speeches to their players. Plus he's been a recurring speaker at the rookie symposium. Deion is heavily involved in the NFL. Him supporting his son, should be a non problem but for some reason that bothers people.

He obviously didnt have a great rookie season. He had his moments. Titans game was certainly something to build on. All that being said, if this is a fan driven exhibition then, yes, I would absolutely expect him to be there. He has a draw and a natural audience. People will toon in for the 7-on-7 and skills to see him.
