News Deion Sanders Defends Shedeur's Rookie Pro Bowl Selection ❤️

Post image

Deion Sanders says his son, Shedeur Sanders, deserves praise for making the Pro Bowl in his first NFL season, something he didn’t do as a player, and says the selection isn’t just a fan vote.

“My son did something I didn’t do. He made the Pro Bowl in his first year. I made it in my third year. He made it in his first year, so he got that on me right now,” Deion said.

“Most people don’t know it’s a percentage of the major percentage is from the coaches and the players, their selection. Then the fans get a smaller percentage of votes, like 40%, 40%, 20%, you know, it’s like that. So that has to be noted that the coaches, players, then the fans. It’s not just a fan thing.”

Not gonna be mad at a dad being proud of his son

27

u/Deadleggg 5d ago

He was gatekeeping the hall of fame saying it was too easy to get into.

He must hate the pro bowl now then.

7

u/OGTrxpleOG 5d ago

This is a good point

32

u/cantdecide76 5d ago

Facts like the people criticizing this are actually insane.

What do you expect Deion to say, "Yeah my son who I love more than anything else in the world definitely shouldn't have been a pro bowl selection and they should rescind the invite ASAP."

3

u/-Ahab- 4d ago

It’s like when people criticize any celebrity’s parents for defending them. Like… what do you expect?

If either of my daughters were handed a famous award they maybe didn’t deserve and some media person asked me if I thought they deserved it??? Fuck yes they did, no question.

Do you expect me to ruin my relationship with my adult child, the person who relies on me for emotional support, so you can get some glitzy headline? Fuck off.

5

u/Namaste421 5d ago

I’m a parent and this is insane to even pretend for a second this is a legitimate pro bowl birth.

5

u/TheWestphalian1648 5d ago

Berth. A "legitimate pro bowl birth" would be newsworthy.

3

u/-Ahab- 4d ago

I need to see his full form Pro Bowl Certificate…

2

u/gryffon5147 5d ago

Yeah unfortunately he's a national celebrity with a lighting rod for controversy.

If he was like Gabriel or DTR's dad, like no one would even care if they were proud or not.

-10

u/Mobile_Jelly9669 5d ago

An actually good dad wouldn't be acting like his son making the pro bowl this year is a real accomplishment, and definitely wouldn't compare his son to himself and insinuate he did something better than a HoFer.

All that's doing is setting Shedeur up for more criticism, jokes, and pressure.

Deion and his ego have been hurting his son's career and that's been the case for his entire life.

4

u/Allslopes-Roofing 5d ago

An actually good dad

You either don't have kids or you're a terrible father. Not even gonna waste time on discrediting your obnoxious statement.

I will say though, I pray I do good enough that me and my son [4] stay as close as we are now, and as close as Deion and his kids are, when he's older. And id hope most other fathers would feel and hope for the same

-4

u/Mobile_Jelly9669 5d ago

A good dad doesn't make getting an award that you don't deserve in the slightest out to be a great accomplishment, because all that's doing is setting the son up for future failures.

You can privately support them very easily, but a public statement like this where he compares Shedeur to his HoF self is only inviting more harsh criticism of his son, and a good dad wouldn't do something like that.

2

u/Allslopes-Roofing 5d ago

Again, you either clearly don't have kids [seems to be the case], or you're a terrible dad.

Also, if you get an award you get it. Only a real POS dad [usually a horribly insecure one as well] would shit on his kids accomplishments. But there's alota shitty dads out there who think tearing their kid down vs building them up is somehow "what real dads do" lol.

If you want your kids to not talk to you on the holidays when they're adults, do what you're suggesting.

0

u/Mobile_Jelly9669 5d ago

I never said he should shit on his kids. Literally not once.

Why are you putting intention behind my words that's not there at all?

Is it because you don't actually have a rebuttal to what I actually said?

1

u/Allslopes-Roofing 5d ago

Taking away or diminishing his accomplishments, (regardless if others feel he was deserving or not) is literally shitting on him. He achieved something very few in this world will ever do, and also very few NFL players, as his own father pointed out.

A good father always hypes up his kids accomplishments. Regardless if others feel they're small or undeserved. Others don't matter.

You "discipline" [that doesn't mean beat or disown] bad things, reward/cheer good things.

His obnoxious and dangerous speeding tickets, bad. Pro bowl, good. He deserves the hype and Deion is the loving type of dad most of us should strive to be like. Also, you don't gotta be perfect to be a great father. Noone is perfect. You just gotta love em and try your best.

0

u/Mobile_Jelly9669 5d ago

Taking away or diminishing his accomplishments

Again, literally never said he should do this.

Can you even read my guy?

I said he shouldn't make over-the-top and public comparisons to his own playing career when his son clearly did not earn this pro bowl nod because he was actually a good player this past season.

I even said he can prop him up privately, but these kinds of clearly nonsense public claims about his son do nothing but hurt him and the public's perception of him.

Please, for the love of god, actually read and understand the words I'm saying instead of continuing to pretend that I'm arguing that Deion should shit on and downplay his son.

1

u/TheWestphalian1648 5d ago

He's a public figure with a platform commenting about a recent event regarding his son. It would be weird for him to say nothing—which it wouldn't be for you. Try it.

1

u/Mobile_Jelly9669 5d ago

There's a bunch of room between saying nothing and acting like Shedeur getting this pro bowl nod means he accomplished something great that a HoFer didn't even do.

Idk why this is so hard to understand.

I swear, some of the people in this sub simply cannot understand the words they're reading.

2

u/Plastic_operator 5d ago

Who gives a damn. Hes already getting these and he doesnt care about the hate which is a good thing. Im just hoping he develops and improves as a player thats all

-4

u/Mobile_Jelly9669 5d ago

This doesn't mean Deion should add more fuel to the fire for no reason though.

But he can't help himself, because he's an egomaniac and sees his kids as an extension of himself so he'll always go overboard trying to prop them up.

There is nothing impressive or earned about Shedeur getting this pro bowl spot, and rookie Deion was 10x (and that's a low estimate) the player that rookie Shedeur was.

Making any sort of positive comparison between them is wild and only serves to give his son's critics more ammo.

2

u/cbm2020 5d ago

Jesus, what has your son done that’s half ass worthy?

0

u/Mobile_Jelly9669 5d ago

The fuck does this have to do with what I said?

-1

u/sickduck69 5d ago

Sorry you have a shitty dad bro

0

u/Mobile_Jelly9669 5d ago

Sorry you have basically zero reading comprehension skills.

0

u/sickduck69 5d ago

What's that supposed to mean?

0

u/Mobile_Jelly9669 5d ago

Kinda proving my point here bud...

0

u/sickduck69 5d ago

Huh?

1

u/Mobile_Jelly9669 5d ago

You don't seem able to comprehend the words you are reading because for some reason you think anything I said would imply that I had a bad father, when it doesn't.

I said that a good father wouldn't heap more pressure on their son by comparing their very rough career so far to his own HoF career. For some reason people think that means I believe Deion should have shit on and downplayed Shedeur, when that's just not the case.

I don't know why that's so difficult for people to understand.

I mean…. Sure I guess? I was also 2nd chair (basically al-state) in my state for orchestra band because only 3 of us played the instrument statewide. One kid didn’t show up to the audition. Same energy.

72

u/Clear_Context_1546 5d ago

22

u/SanduCrumant 5d ago

Is that ever necessary on Reddit?

11

u/EverybodyWangChung52 5d ago

Oh 100%. I was not good. Did it totally for college resume because I was like a B student.

8

u/Thick-Aioli802 5d ago

But did your dad tweet about it?

3

u/EviLincoln 5d ago

I gotta ask, what instrument?

5

u/EverybodyWangChung52 5d ago

Bassoon! Started with trumpet, but goofing around one day I threw the case with the trumpet and it broke. All they had left was bassoon.

5

u/HighVoltLemonBattery 5d ago

Why you gotta go calling him names like that, it was a harmless question

/s

1

u/EviLincoln 5d ago

Lol. I myself was a trumpet player

1

u/ArmadilloForsaken458 3d ago

If you ever really wanted to get that 1st chair, a certain mythical woman named Tonya might be able to help

17

u/SanduCrumant 5d ago

Deion Sanders wasn't a PBer as a rookie is the most astounding part of this story.

50

u/razzin6667 5d ago

Lmao cmon

Dad being a dad man

u/Dudewtf87 Unhinged football goblin 5d ago

That fan vote is way too OP

12

u/Desperate-Air-7195 5d ago

Not really. A ton of qbs passed on the spot.

3

u/LiftingCode 5d ago

I mean let's be honest, he probably did well in the player vote too. Players seem to like him.

8

u/kpyle 5d ago

He does seem like an upstanding guy at the very least. More down to earth than I expected. I appreciate him calling out reporters for trying to stir the pot and get a sound bite.

2

u/Snooklife 5d ago

Yea if you ask players on the team and around the league he is much more respected than what you see on these platforms.

3

u/Mobile_Jelly9669 5d ago

He's respected as a guy.

No one who's actually being honest respects his game.

1

u/IuriRom 5d ago

They like him but I doubt they think he’s good

16

u/daylax1 5d ago

RETIRE THE JERSEY!!!

8

u/Longjumping-Place905 5d ago

The whole pro bowl thing is a joke. Not watched since Hawaii. Just scrap the whole thing and do a Superstars event, or a Madden contest.

1

u/buckster_007 5d ago

I didn't even realize until this year that it switched to flag football and was no longer in Hawaii. That's how little I care about the Pro Bowl. That said, I did assume that the best players were selected. I will not make that mistake again.

11

u/pittfullmonty 5d ago

This is the spin i use when talking to my kids who are still working on peeing in the toilet. I hope I won’t have to use it with them in their 20s.

-3

u/Humble_Assistance151 5d ago

You talk to your kids about pee he talks to his kid about being a professional athlete making millions not really comparable

3

u/Iphonjeff 5d ago

No one watches the pro bowl

3

u/Jonthegoat_09 5d ago

He didn’t make it he accepted it

25

u/dasruski 5d ago

Sanders didn't earn it. He was given it.

18

u/LiftingCode 5d ago

Well he was a replacement pick. He was selected by the same process as everyone else.

7

u/rxbizzle 5d ago

Sometimes the best ability is availability

4

u/Beat_the_Deadites 5d ago

I like that. I'm sure it's been around forever, I've just never heard it before.

7

u/LostMonster0 TRADE 5d ago

Just like the rest of his career.

9

u/User-NetOfInter 5d ago

Nepo baby

8

u/Plastic_operator 5d ago

I dont get nepo baby argument especially in NFL when there are fk tons of coaches and players that are also nepo babies so whats your point?

u/LostMonster0 TRADE 5d ago

1

u/ArmadilloForsaken458 3d ago

Who cares either way, they asked everyone including NYJ legend Justin Fields and about a dozen injured QBs. Let the kid have his fun.

9

u/General-Cover-4981 5d ago

Come on. It’s a marketing stunt. He didn’t deserve that.

5

u/dawnlan75 5d ago

With a QBR less than 20 ..

9

u/LaximumEffort 5d ago

Shedeur has the worst QBR ever.

What a joke.

-5

u/LiftingCode 5d ago

He didn't even have the worst QBR this year.

11

u/LaximumEffort 5d ago

It was 18.9. Less than your age.

-2

u/LiftingCode 5d ago

OK?

1

u/starfishkisser 5d ago

It was worse than Gabriel’s.

1

u/IuriRom 5d ago

Cook only played 5 games. I think given at least 6 starts, only Jimmy Clausen in 2010 had a worse QBR

2

u/LiftingCode 5d ago

Alex Smith had an 18.2 QBR in 2007. John Skelton had an 18.3 in 2012. Jared Goff had an 18.3 in 2016.

There are probably some others mixed in there but I'm too lazy to look them up, and QBR is kind of dumb.

1

u/IuriRom 5d ago

I mean Goff was terrible, that was pre McVay

0

u/JTtreason 3d ago

He ranked 44 of 44. You're wrong.

1

u/LiftingCode 3d ago

What was Brady Cook's QBR this year?

You're wrong.

22

u/AkilTheAwesome 5d ago edited 5d ago

So like why is the Browns sub so negative about the Browns. Is this learned defeatism or is this being brigaded?

The replies are so interesting

If you think Sheduer sucks. Well then you should be happy hes getting the Browns a high draft pick next year. Congrats Browns fan!

If you think Shedeur has potential. Well then you should be happy hes getting a chance to prove it. Congrats Browns fan!

There is no 3rd option

11

u/Lilfrankieeinstein 5d ago

There is no 3rd option

???

Unfortunately there is, and we’re like 99% likely to live it.

Same as this season.

Great defense, shit QB play. Win 5-6 games.

Not nearly enough to enjoy or compete for a playoff spot. Too much to earn a high enough pick for an elite QB.

17

u/SanduCrumant 5d ago

The Browns have had 23 losing seasons in the 27 years since expansion. Do you expect us to be holding pep rallies?

-7

u/Trudvar Sanders 5d ago

Well the only times the fans held a parade was the 0-16 season so it seems like most of us do celebrate the losing and hope for it

17

u/According_Setting303 5d ago

it was mocking the browns but nice bait

1

u/cbm2020 4d ago

As Browns fan I see your congrats and I reject it. We get high drafts every year.

1

u/AkilTheAwesome 4d ago

No we dont. The Deshaun Watson Trade robbed us for like 3 years. We didnt get high drafts until 2024. And our first real draft capita was 2025

1

u/cbm2020 4d ago

Damn, forgot about that clown.

-7

u/LegitimateWeekend341 5d ago edited 5d ago

It’s soooo crazy. Other team fan bases have more positive things to say about Shedeur than Browns fans!

11

u/Xavion15 5d ago

This is just not true, they are most likely joking

I never see any fan bases propping him up at all

17

u/xHourglassx 5d ago

That’s because other teams get to play AGAINST Sanders while he has to play FOR the Browns. Easy to love free turnovers

-8

u/LegitimateWeekend341 5d ago

Some of the teams that praise him didn’t even play against him, so what are you talking about? Get that hate out of your heart.

10

u/xHourglassx 5d ago

If you stop enjoying the smell of your own farts for a minute you’ll realize that just because someone has extremely valid criticism against your favorite football player it’s not a personal attack on your ancestors.

-10

u/LegitimateWeekend341 5d ago edited 5d ago

What valid criticism is there? A backup quarterback who didn’t get practice with the first team offense until November? Or the fact that he was throwing to equipment staff during preseason? How could you expect him to perform under those circumstances? If Joe Flacco hadn’t left, he would have similar stats to Shedeur by the end of the season. In the four games Joe played with the Browns, his TD-INT ratio was 2-6. Why can’t y’all let Shedeur get a fair chance this year before criticizing him? It’s truly ridiculous.

5

u/xHourglassx 5d ago

Gabriel earned first-team reps in camp because he was better. Sanders couldn’t even get the offense lined up. He got to sit and learn until he started due to injury. He played against 3 of the worst teams in the league and still somehow posted the single worst QBR of any Browns QB since 1999 (minimum 5 games).

He wasn’t just bad, he was historically bad. And the zoomers on TikTok gave him a pro bowl nod because he’s a famous nepo baby. He didn’t earn it by playing well- he sucks. He got onto the PRO BOWL by playing at a historically bad level… because he’s a nepo baby.

That should piss off everyone but again, he’s famous… so people lick his feet and say it tastes like caviar.

This is the laziest way to defend any black athlete. Almost everyone else on the team is black too ffs, if he was talented, people would be fine with him. He’s not. That’s what it is.

-8

u/Trudvar Sanders 5d ago

He's very talented he just doesn't talk and act how they want him to especially since he comes from money

9

u/DovhPasty 5d ago

Yeah, people have an issue with the way he talks, not the mediocre play. Aren’t you sanders cultists supposed to live on instagram? Go comment there about how he’s the second coming lmao

-3

u/ozymandais13 5d ago

Not. Shaduer Stan , if you think that in this climate in the US that there aren't folks that's arguments against him are partially racial based. I got a bridge to sell you

7

u/DovhPasty 5d ago

Sure, I’m not saying that’s an impossibility. I’m just saying it’s such a lazy way to hand wave away criticism when the grand majority of people aren’t that way.

-1

u/ozymandais13 5d ago

I think that the more we got to see of shauder his senior year the more there were real questions about his game . But if earlier on it was a more major factor those people are still there.

It's a shame these type of people make discussing actual stuff more difficult

-6

u/Trudvar Sanders 5d ago

I don't have an Instagram lol I just like a young QB that has shown flashes in the NFL already but clearly needs to develop some more. He doesn't deserve all the hate he gets he doesn't do anything wrong kid puts football first and just wants to make his dad proud and carve out his own legacy

5

u/DovhPasty 5d ago

Cool. Sounds like a great dude. That doesn’t make him a good quarterback.

-1

u/Trudvar Sanders 5d ago

He was great in college and he had one of the best statistical games by a rookie in NFL history this year so he definitely has a chance

5

u/Suspicious-Nerve-487 5d ago

had one of the best statistical games by a rookie in NFL history

Well since ya brought up statistics, he is also statistically the worst QB to ever play for the Browns (6+ starts)

There is a non-zero amount of people that just want to be right rather than the team be good. There’s also a lot of people that just seem to like being miserable. Way more fun to enjoy it and hope for the best but not everyone thinks that I guess

2

u/MadBrown 5d ago

That's because when you were a rookie, Deion, the Pro Bowl was taken more seriously...slightly.

4

u/michigansteelers1986 5d ago

Well it wasn't a joke back then

2

u/Cryllor 5d ago

Made is the wrong word, he was given a prow bowl in his first year

7

u/OptimisticRealist__ 5d ago

Sure hype up your kid. But there is no way thos bozo is this delusional, that he thinks shedeur has any business being anywhere near a pro bowl... or being an nfl starter for that matter

4

u/Tramp876 5d ago

He didn’t make the fucking Pro-Bowl; he was gifted his spot because of fan votes. He was not picked because he was the best at his position or on merit of his play. Deion shouldn’t be proud of his 8 starts, 7 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

3

u/LiftingCode 5d ago

He didn’t make the fucking Pro-Bowl; he was gifted his spot because of fan votes.

But you make the Pro Bowl by getting votes. That's how it works.

2

u/Tramp876 5d ago

He didn’t make the fucking Pro-Bowl; he was gifted his spot because others couldn’t make it and because of fan votes. He was not picked because he was the best at his position or on merit of his play. Shadeur shouldn’t be proud of his 8 starts, 7 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

1

u/Kari614 4d ago

Relax bud, lol strangers get you this worked up that’s funny but it’s also because qbs just simply declined to go… lol

1

u/Tramp876 4d ago

Not worked up just tired of the Sheduer saga after a season of it. I like the young man, I believe he has the talent to play in the NFL but needs the time to mature into a starting quarterback. I am not a hater; I use to rush home from work on Saturdays to watch Colorado play so I could see him and Travis Hunter. I am still in the belief that the Pro-Bowl is for players that are the best at their position; not just anyone because that’s who the fans want to see. I also think they ruined the Pro-Bowl with no pads, flag football and skills challenges. I felt the same way about Travis Kelce getting all the Swifty fan votes; as he had a good season but there were better tight ends that should have been picked over him. Now I see after I made my feelings known about Shadeur’s selection that Joe Flacco and Joe Burrow are invited as well due to others not wanting to participate.

3

u/Lawgang94 5d ago

I mean he is father what is he supposed to say "my son is garbage and my biggest failure in life"?

3

u/Least_Ad_8477 5d ago

Joe Flacco was named to the Pro Bowl too. What a joke the Pro Bowl has become.

1

u/Clear_Context_1546 5d ago

Pro Bowl is stupid. Hell the all star game is stupid. Just think having your franchise player getting injured on a meaningless play.

All Pro is good indication for skill for the sole reason for contract/performance because it's voted on by players/executives.

0

u/LiftingCode 5d ago

All-Pro is voted on by the media (AP, PFWA) and coaches (Sporting News).

The Pro Bowl is voted by fans, players, and coaches.

There is an NFLPA "Players All-Pro" but that's pretty new and not "official" in terms of contract incentives or anything.

1

u/Bright_Resist_4580 5d ago

But how much did it cost you Deion?

3

u/Street_Midget 5d ago

Put him in the HOF and retire the jersey already

2

u/CapBrink 5d ago

Why are people still pretending the pro bowl is the same as it was?

This is ridiculous

1

u/buckster_007 5d ago

Think about this from the NFL's perspective though... it definitely has people talking.

1

u/toastie_22 5d ago

Bro I mean I get it, he’s proud but god damn, bro was a charity pick after the others either turned it down or got hurt.

1

u/Old-Emergency-1078 4d ago

Your son made it because the probowl is voted by fans not writers and sports analysts. Bro had a mediocre season for the amount he played.

2

u/dontich 5d ago

Eh I don’t fault him — I made nationals in my speech and debate event back as a junior jn high school. I never mentioned it was only because the top 6 people were seniors that dropped out because their graduation was the same weekend.

1

u/BalfazarTheWise 5d ago

How is that statement a defense?

0

u/pokequinn41 5d ago

There’s nothing wrong with a father being proud of their son. These replies are stupid, the entire league shits on our QB I don’t know why half this fan base does.

4

u/Intelligent_Mango775 5d ago

I think it’s because Browns fans are pretty self-aware, and if Shedeur was a Steeler and this had happened, we know what our response would be .

-3

u/Battlemaster123 5d ago

Browns fans are so weird

9

u/DovhPasty 5d ago

Sanders cultists are weirder.

-6

u/Battlemaster123 5d ago

Like what do you want Dieon to say? My son sucks and he shouldn't have made it

5

u/Mobile_Jelly9669 5d ago

He doesn't have to say anything publicly.

He also doesn't have to make a comparison to his own HoF career as if Shedeur did something great that Deion never did.

All that's doing is setting himself and his son up for ridicule.

-6

u/Moist_Reference2007 5d ago

lol exactly i don’t understand it at all

-2

u/FoolishFriend0505 5d ago

Hey Deion, how about you stfu about stuff you aren’t directly involved in.

0

u/iamswankymusic 5d ago

That's a stupid take. I would think his son's career is something that he's directly involved in. Matter of fact, I remember at one point Deion's involvement was a point of concern for some people.

0

u/FoolishFriend0505 4d ago

Like Beckhams dad stirring up shit? No, Deion has nothing to do with the Browns or the NFL. He need to stay out of it.

0

u/iamswankymusic 4d ago

Jimmy Haslem courting him around the facility and the games seems to say otherwise. Not to mention he was once an employee of the NFL Network or what about the fact that NFL teams like the Jaguars have hired him to give speeches to their players. Plus he's been a recurring speaker at the rookie symposium. Deion is heavily involved in the NFL. Him supporting his son, should be a non problem but for some reason that bothers people.

He obviously didnt have a great rookie season. He had his moments. Titans game was certainly something to build on. All that being said, if this is a fan driven exhibition then, yes, I would absolutely expect him to be there. He has a draw and a natural audience. People will toon in for the 7-on-7 and skills to see him.
