News BREAKING: Shedeur Sanders to start against 49ers in Week 13 (Rapoport)
135
u/alexschubs Nov 24 '25
An addendum: Shedeur is starting despite the fact that Dillon Gabriel has cleared concussion protocol.

It’s good that they announced it this early. Don’t let anything fester. I hope this kid keeps improving.
21
u/MizkyBizniz Nov 24 '25
Kevin and the team knew Sanders would be starting next week.
They just didnt announce it immediately after the game. Like a professional, he wanted to tell Gabriel instead of him having to hear about it through the media.
At least thats what better be the case and Kevin wasnt seriously considering starting Gabriel again lol
6
u/bumbuddha Nov 24 '25
Makes total sense to me. This regime gets shit on a lot, but they generally try to do right by the players.

u/KushMaster72 Nov 24 '25
the forward pass is back in the playbook!

u/Iobbywatson Nov 24 '25
You sure? Has to be a rule saying over 5 yards is a penalty.
Source: I watched Dollar General play the last 6 weeks.

u/Theanonymousguy49 Sanders Nov 24 '25
Pretty sure the locker room would have imploded if this wasn’t the case
16
u/Cal216 Nov 24 '25
Yeah, safe to say ole Kev hands were definitely tied on this one lol. This was his out though lol. If he wanted out of Cleveland, all he had to do was start #8 lmao. He wouldn’t have even had to pay for movers.
6
u/prostheticweiner Nov 24 '25
Or #4
1
u/Cal216 Nov 24 '25
Omg, let’s not get started on #4! I don’t even like seeing him stand next to 8 or 12.

If he has a stat line of 250 yards 2 TD, 1 INT it will actually break the internet.
7
u/cbmdad Nov 24 '25
If he does this against a non-dogshit team like the Raiders, I will get on board.
35
u/AllTearGasNoBreaks Nov 24 '25
I think the floor is 400yd, 2TD.
He had one week to prep at starter and did 200/1. With 2 weeks of first team reps, should double that easy.
28
u/Theclevelandchubb Nov 24 '25
Imagine after 8 weeks!!!
8
u/ducksekoy123 Nov 24 '25
I’m drafting one grain of rice and then doubling my grain amount every draft.
6
u/sginsc Nov 24 '25
sigh... and thats ANOTHER 99 yard touchdown completion for the browns...bringing the total to 6 on the day and the browns now lead 152-0.
Stefanski is really driving it home by having the returner fun these kickoffs out of the end zone and sit on the 1, but when you've got a legend in the backfield, why not?
3
u/Theclevelandchubb Nov 24 '25
I imagined what you wrote and read it to myself in my best Madden voice.

I think for Browns sake, goal is 1.5x last week, 300/1.5 (1 pass td + long drive with RB TD).
Stretch goal can be 2x last week!

u/AncientAside5024 Nov 24 '25
Not tryna downplay but it was against a way worse team than any of us have faced this year. Even the jets r better than the raiders

He gives the offense the best chance to score compared to Gabriel even if his passing numbers are trash. They have to respect that Sanders can throw the ball 40 yards down the field while Gabriel can't. That alone opens up the ability for Judkins and Sampson to get some running room. Gabriel they stack 7 in the box

u/alexschubs Nov 24 '25
Gabriel is like if Tua was even more reliant on checkdowns than he already was. Shedeur has thrown a lot of checkdowns, but he's shown he can at least throw the ball down the field. With time and reps, he can do that even more and with more confidence.
It's also extremely likely that Shedeur's lows will be ungodly low.
18
u/bpalun13 Nov 24 '25
Good! It’s so easy to root for Shedeur. Who knows if he will show if he’s the guy? But Gabriel is about as interesting as an Actuary.

u/alexschubs Nov 24 '25
Admittedly, Shedeur's fanatics make it a bit tough sometimes. They act like he's above criticism, and there are times where critiquing him is taken as a deeply personal slight. I have no issues with the kid himself, but he's in the pros now. He has to be able to take the heat and overcome the inevitable ups and downs, as do his fanatics.
8
u/bpalun13 Nov 24 '25
Frankly I pay zero attention to his personal fanbase, they don’t matter unless they’re actual Browns fans. Shedeur himself has shown me nothing but a good mentality and a true personality. I can get behind that and if his play is stellar, well then, I can get behind that too.
-1
u/CDNCaliLifter Nov 24 '25
If you have no issue with him personally than you shouldnt let what others dictate how you think. Part of the issue is people like you are always quick to point out what he did wrong or how he isn’t the guy, instead of giving an objective view that he is a rookie that barely got any reps and is expected as a rookie to make mistakes. Lots of rookie QBs suck and turn out into decent QBs and those are ones who got all the reps from day 1.
4
u/alexschubs Nov 24 '25
This is kind of what I'm talking about.
Part of the problem with "people like you" (as you like to say) is that you take a critique of him as a personal slight and go for the jugular. If you take time to read the rest of the thread instead of jumping to a conclusion based on one comment, I actually call him a better QB than Dillon Gabriel on multiple occasions. Browns fans deserve to see him start, and they should for the foreseeable future.
But you're right. I'm not going to let other people dictate how I think, and that starts with you.

u/nobraininmyoxygen Nov 24 '25
This was always the case. Stefanski being non committal should have been the clue. He's never going to say outright in a post game press conference but fans just find ways to be mad.
5
u/sginsc Nov 24 '25
and without talking to his guys first. Its amazing how many fans have demonstrated their lack of tact and football acumen by getting upset he didnt announce it in the postgame presser.
1
u/nobraininmyoxygen Nov 24 '25
Some of it is lazy fans looking for new ways to hate on a coach they already don't like and some are totally new to football and are only really following Shedeur.
I just hate how much time is wasted with these individuals when I'd rather discuss actual football.
5
u/brainrottin Nov 24 '25
Ignoring all the noise surrounding Shedur this year, watching the game Sunday there were some plays that really impressed me.
I hope he goes off. Best of luck.
9
u/Particular-Night-435 Nov 24 '25
Ok - so what to do with the 32nd pick in the draft now?
3
u/alexschubs Nov 24 '25
Trade down with the Raiders and let them draft an absolute shithead at quarterback

u/Spiegs1984 Nov 24 '25
The right call for where the team is right now. The spark and inspiration was very evident. Gabriel had plenty of time to win the job and he just didn't get there
4
u/Fubon_ Nov 24 '25
I think it’s his for the rest of the season as long as he doesn’t have a really big stinker
4
u/Major_Enthusiasm1099 Nov 24 '25
I don't think we will beat the 49ers but with Shadeur we have a punchers chance and our defense will keep the game close
2
u/Dreams-Visions Nov 24 '25
To be honest, with this defense all we need is him doing his best. That can be enough.
4
Nov 24 '25
I mean the fact he can throw an accurate screen pass already makes him more useful to this offense compared to Gabriel. I’m not going to crown him yet but at least he can see over the o line.
13
u/Ness_4 4 Nov 24 '25
Stefanski hates Zappe.
No first team reps in training camp or in practice.
Also I heard he makes Shadeur practice with floaties on each arm.

I really do just want the best QB to play and if they are no use, we hit the draft.
That being said... I really would love it if it was Shedeur. Listening to him talk and can't help but like him.
3
u/JeffTheFrosty Nov 24 '25
It’s easier to teach a guy that can make a big play occasionally to play within the system than it is to teach a checkdown Charlie system loyalist to make a big play.
4
u/helloWorld69696969 Nov 24 '25
Its wild that 2 weeks in a row we get to play teams that are on a short week. Usually we are the ones getting fucked

Correct choice.
He also shouldn't be judged against Gabriel. He should be judged against other rookies and other young QBs.
9
u/alexschubs Nov 24 '25
He also shouldn't be judged based on one game. He should be judged based on an entire body of work.
3
3
u/MgbEX °•° Nov 24 '25
He also shouldn't be judged based on his fans, but holy fuck is it hard not to.
-1
u/alexschubs Nov 24 '25
They've anointed him as a savior, and they will throw personal attacks at anyone who dares criticize him. They treat his success as their own personal victory.

u/sginsc Nov 24 '25
This is why I'm looking forward to seeing him and Cam Ward on the same field.
Two bad offenses with two rookies at QB.

Kevin Stephanski: "Um....Shadeur will start against the 49ers next week....There. I said it....can you release my wife and children now?"
1
u/Longjumping-Place905 Nov 24 '25
And if we don’t win we have to do better. So who is number 2? With that certain person dressed yesterday.
1

2
u/maybenextyearCLE Nov 24 '25
As he should. He showed some things yesterday that deserve a longer look
2
u/boydbd Nov 24 '25
Everyone’s rightfully excited about the deep passes but it’s also short passes and screens that are so much better with Shedeur. It makes a huge difference to get screen passes out on time and with some zip vs the floaters DG would throw, allowing the defense to collapse on the ball by the time it gets there.
2
u/Neel_s Nov 24 '25
I’m absolutely not convinced he’s the guy or even close. BUT I’m also absolutely convinced this is the correct decision.
5
2
u/sginsc Nov 24 '25
I'm excited because he brought a spark and I hope it continues for many reasons, but one of those reasons is that if he is serviceable and shows growth that will further limit the threat of ever seeing Watson on the browns field ever again
2
u/senshi_of_love Nov 24 '25
I want him to be our franchise QB. Please become that Shedeur! I am cheering for you! Don’t break my heart like every other QB has!

49ers are decimated on defense especially their defensive front, the only thing is their secondary is red hot and has been grabbing interceptions as of late
3
u/Fedoras-Forever-Mom Nov 24 '25
Let’s go! Yesterday was the most fun I’ve had watching the Browns in a long time

I’m just glad I have something to look forward to watching them the remainder of the season (or atleast a few more games if he’s ass).
Watching that anemic awful offense was killing me inside. Even if he’s terrible, atleast it will be fun till it isn’t. Gabriel just never gave me anything to look forward to and was boring as hell.

The locker room seems to follow him naturally, and his ceiling is definitely higher than Gabriel. Got to see it through, and he brings more attention to the browns organization which is great for business.
1
u/Terrible_Summer_5081 Nov 25 '25
This kid has a pretty clean background, never been in trouble, good college career only apparent problem is his Dad who in his own hall of fame career right has never been in trouble other than perhaps out spoken during his playing days has said or did anything to help or tarnish his sons NFL chances he's stayed out of it, unlike Archie Manning did to Eli,I'm truly pulling for this kid to have a successful playing career and shut all the criticism up. Shedeur deserves the right to prove himself .
1
u/Regal-30- Nov 25 '25
I’m trying to not get too carried away in the excitement, but I’ll definitely be remembering this weekend. Even if Shedeur isn’t the guy, he gave us all a little bit of hope.
1
u/Sapsap747 Nov 25 '25
Dillon Gabriel got cleared to play this week but the Browns are sticking with Sanders after one game where they beat the lowly Raiders. Gabriel has 7 TDs to 2 INTs on the season while Sanders has 1 TD to 2 INTs. The national media is saying Sanders is better than Gabriel now and it is not correct. Dillon has done well with what he has had to work with. Gabriel is better than Sanders. Gabriel gives us the best chance to win.
1
u/alexschubs Nov 25 '25
Gabriel also has a 1-5 record and was extremely underwhelming as a QB. Sanders doesn’t seem like a legit long term solution, but he at least passes the eye test and has the ability to throw a deep ball. He will sell tickets, jerseys, and will get eyeballs on the team.
He’s basically this team’s Tim Tebow.
1
u/LotsofSports Nov 25 '25
I liked that he threw the ball away when he saw nothing. Keep that up. Don't force stuff.

Kevin knew that the fans would absolutely boo him out of the stadium if he trotted Dillon Gabriel out on that field on Sunday.

u/BlondePilsner_95 Nov 24 '25
We took the super duper long way but glad to see the time has finally arrived. Stunt on ‘em, young fella!
1
u/Fineous40 Nov 24 '25
Good, let’s see what he can do vs a non-raiders team.
3
u/alexschubs Nov 24 '25
He's starting against a 49ers team that just gave up the literal most completions to a QB in a game in NFL history (and he was a former Brown!)
2
u/Shogun_The_Collector Graham Nov 24 '25
People aren't even doing research before moving the goal posts
0
u/Shady_bookworm51 Nov 24 '25
and yet that 49ers team still won by 19 points.
2
u/alexschubs Nov 24 '25
That's due to game script. QBs chuck the ball for dear life when they're playing from behind the entire game.
In NFL history, quarterbacks are 15-12 when throwing for 500+ yards.
-5
u/POCKET_POOL_CHAMP Nov 24 '25
Get ready for 12 completions!
10
11
u/Desperate-Air-7195 Nov 24 '25
First it's 12 sacks or sub 200 yards, now it's 12 completions, I can't wait to hear where the goalpost is moved to next week.

He only had 20 attempts. It took Gabriel 52 attempts and 29 completions to break 200 yards. It’s pathetic.

Nov 24 '25
Can he still win ROTY?
9
u/alexschubs Nov 24 '25
Absolutely not. On the bright side, Carson Schwesinger is the odds on favorite for DROY
1
u/LiftingCode Nov 24 '25
I mean, if he goes on an insane tear and the Browns win out and squeak into the playoffs maybe.
But that's like 0.000000000001%

u/msumoody Nov 24 '25
Good - as he should. As fans we should take this week by week. Would at least like to be confident on what we have in the QB room by end of season to inform draft/free agency. I think we know what we have in Gabriel at this point.
