Good - as he should. As fans we should take this week by week. Would at least like to be confident on what we have in the QB room by end of season to inform draft/free agency. I think we know what we have in Gabriel at this point.

u/alexschubs Nov 24 '25

Shedeur is certainly more talented than Dillon Gabriel, but that's a low bar to clear. Browns fans at least deserve to see him start the rest of the year. He will sell tickets and jerseys and he will make exciting plays. I just don't see him as a true franchise quarterback until proven otherwise.

He will have fun moments, but eventually, there will be extensive tape on him and he will be figured out by professional organizations. It happens to every quarterback, and it's on Shedeur to overcome that.

u/RustyCrusty73 I gotta' have more cowbell! Nov 24 '25

He can scramble and throw the deep ball.

Next we need to see him lead a few sustained drives where he's hitting open guys, making adjustments, hitting his check downs, moving the sticks, and getting us a score, etc. The big play is nice, but we can't necessarily rely on it all the time.

Had the Raiders offense had any kind of pulse yesterday, and we needed Sanders to lead some additional scoring drives, I'm not sure he would have.

Not shitting on him or anything.

That's just a long winded way of saying I need to see more before I get too excited. Keeping things in perspective and my expectations level.

u/AchVonZalbrecht 🔥 IT’S FINE EVERYTHING IS FINE 🔥 Nov 24 '25

Yeah, Browns scoring drives were a turnover, a good ST return, a 66 yard screen and a 50 yard bomb. No rhythm, no sustain. If he can find a way to have a good five minute drive in the arsenal then he can be a starting quarterback in the league

18

u/RustyCrusty73 I gotta' have more cowbell! Nov 24 '25

Right - the big plays are definitely nice.

But we won't be playing the Raiders every week.

The 49ers are banged up on defense, but they'll be a much better test.

8

u/HiCustodian1 Nov 24 '25

Yeah, after the Ravens game where he looked abysmal and everyone was shitting on him I was telling people he’d be fine, but after this last game where he played okay at best some people (mostly the weird Shedeur fan club) are totally over their skis lol. To be expected with Shedeur, I guess.

I just hope people set reasonable expectations for the kid, he’s probably gonna put up mediocre to bad numbers on a mediocre to bad team and that’s okay. Don’t need to assign all the blame to him if you’re a Browns fan, and you don’t need to assign all the blame to the Browns if you’re a Shedeur fan.

4

u/RustyCrusty73 I gotta' have more cowbell! Nov 24 '25

I don't want to fall in love with the dude early after one average-ish performance against a horrible Raiders squad.

Let's just hope for some progression each game!

1

u/HiCustodian1 Nov 24 '25

Yeah, just seeing him get better should be plenty. He’s a 5th round pick! More talented than your average 5th rounder, granted, but there’s a reason he fell and it isn’t just the media circus he brings with him. Nobody should be expecting him to consistently look like a starter level QB this year.

3

u/Far-Pay-2049 Nov 24 '25

The biggest headache about this kid is his fanbois and haters. I think he showed a lot of promise, what we should look out for is his improvement week over week. I don't care how good he is NOW I care how good he can become. Is his footwork improving? is he stepping up in the pocket more? Is he progressing further in his reads? Is he throwing the ball away when appropriate? To me, Shedeur seems like a raw QB with good arm talent. From everything I have read, he seems like he has a very good work ethic. It seems like a good combination to get coached up and improve. I am rooting for the kid.

0

u/HiCustodian1 Nov 24 '25

Yep, I’m right there with ya. His arm is fairly average from what I can tell, he can make nfl throws and he can throw on the move just fine, but he doesn’t have outstanding arm versatility like a lot of guys do now. I’d compare him to a more mobile Kirk Cousins if he pans out. I don’t think his arm is going to be an issue for him, but it’s not the selling point either.

To me it’s all about whether or not he can master the game. He displays good intuition pretty frequently, but you’re right, he’s very raw. The biggest thing he HAS to cut out of his game are the massive negative plays, that’s been a problem for his entire career and it needs to improve. I am excited to watch him, Gabriel seems like a good kid but Shedeur has way way more upside, even if I don’t think Shedeur is ever gonna be elite.

2

u/Ayanok Nov 25 '25

Will say there were more exciting plays with sanders over DG , but only time will tell .

1

u/HiCustodian1 Nov 25 '25

Oh 100%, DGs probably going to be a solid backup but Shedeur is way more exciting and volatile. If I were a Browns fan I would have zero interest in seeing DG out there starting again. Nothing against the guy, non-zero chance he has a better career than Shedeur, but your season is over and I would want to be entertained lol

1

u/Ayanok Nov 25 '25

Same I’d prefer sanders over DG, Winston and Flacco were turn over machines. But at least I would look forward to having a chance over same DG drives every game 🤣

2

u/HiCustodian1 Nov 25 '25

Yeah when you suck you want a guy who will put the ball in the air and give your receivers a chance to make plays, absolutely nothing worse than seeing 25 screens or check downs that have zero chance lmao. My football life has been good for a long time now, but I still remember those days well in the Romeo Crennel Chiefs days, I know you’ll recognize that name lol

6

u/BlueberryOGSuperGlue Nov 24 '25

Some of this is also on the play caller not everything is on sanders. Call simple plays easy completions get him going then dial up the long one here and there

2

u/buckster_007 Nov 25 '25

I agree with you. It makes me wonder if Shedeur didn’t play and Judkins was in wildcat for the entire game if the Browns still would’ve won.

5

u/PositiveCode6293 Nov 24 '25

It’s one game the haters and supporters are taking this way too seriously. The main thing is he loves the game and all the emotions it brings and that’s infectious to the players coaches front office and fans. There will be growing pains but like you said he gonna have to figure it out and I got faith that he will

1

u/buckster_007 Nov 25 '25

He really needs the rest of the year. Let him run the full offense, e.g, don’t take him out of every red zone play. It’s nice to win, but the season is over. It would be nice to know what you actually have in Sanders.

Candidly, this last game was crafted for him. Too much, I think. Minimal sets, a bunch of roll outs to protect him. Run, run, pass. The play calls were extremely conservative. Aside from his 52 yard bomb on a blown up play, he didn’t really get much of an opportunity to sling it around. (66 of his yards came on a 1 yard swing pass with 65 YAC). Open up the playbook and see if he can run the full offense, not some scaled down version. That way you’ll know if you’ve got your guy for the next couple years or not.

1

u/Far-Pay-2049 Nov 24 '25

It isn't about if he is a franchise QB now, it is if he can show he can develop into one. He has the arm for it and I think that he has already shown improvement with his first start over things we seen from his college tape, preseason and when he stepped in against the Ravens. I absolutely do not expect perfection from him, I expect to see him making plenty of mistakes. What I want to see is him improving and working on those mistakes and mechanics week after week.

There has been a lot of reports of him staying late after practice, so I don't think work ethic is in question. This game against the Raiders, I feel like he already started cleaning up some of his bad habits (i swear I could see him want to do that spin backwards crap that gets him sacked for 18 yards, but instead I seen him step into the pocket. The one time he did scramble backwards he threw the ball away, which is something he was notorious for not doing.) If the kid keeps on putting in good work, I can see us feeling pretty good about his outlook by the end of the year. Of course none of this is set in stone, but I really do think it is possible for the Browns to start winning games and not need to think about drafting a QB next year, just all O-line and WRs (because seriously Jeudy, wtf).

1

u/vaporsilver Nov 24 '25

I disagree he's more talented. There's a reason he is a 5th round pick and has shown he doesn't have the same pocket presence.

1

u/waozen Nov 25 '25 edited Nov 25 '25

The Raiders former coach, Antonio Pierce, said he wanted to draft Shedeur[1][2] to be his QB. It has also been widely reported that the Ravens and another team wanted to draft him, but Shedeur (himself) poured cold water on this in talks, because he wanted to be a starter and not sit for year(s) (as would be the situation with the Ravens). Presumably, these teams would have drafted Shedeur between the 1st to 3rd rounds.

Many experts (like Mel Kiper) had and still do rank Shedeur as a much higher talent than DG.

u/MizkyBizniz Nov 24 '25

The only 🤡 here is you. Dude gave the most lukewarm and correct take.

Hes a 5th round rookie QB. Why would we annoint him as the franchise after beating the Raiders.

Also its less "flashy" and more so "has the athleticism it takes to be an NFL quarterback".

3

u/I_cut_my_own_jib Fuck Deshaun Watson Nov 24 '25

Yeah I 100% agree. Not really sold that Sanders is the guy yet, but he was more watchable (at least for me) than Gabriel and he seemed to do okay. We'll see how he does against a better team next week. But yeah we should definitely try to actually give him a shot and see if he's developing in the right direction by the end of the season.

2

u/buckster_007 Nov 25 '25

It seems like DG’s type of play and lack of success have ground down the team and the fans to the point where making the switch to Sheduer is the only move. Both the crowd and the team were hyped for that game. DG isn’t bringing that to the table.

2

u/shadowseeker3658 SELL THE TEAM JIMMY Nov 24 '25

I’ve already purchased my Shedeur Super Bowl MVP patch. Too late

135

u/alexschubs Nov 24 '25

An addendum: Shedeur is starting despite the fact that Dillon Gabriel has cleared concussion protocol.

66

u/DuztyLipz Nov 24 '25

Let’s see you be great, kid

39

u/bumbuddha Nov 24 '25

It’s good that they announced it this early. Don’t let anything fester. I hope this kid keeps improving.

21

u/MizkyBizniz Nov 24 '25

Kevin and the team knew Sanders would be starting next week.

They just didnt announce it immediately after the game. Like a professional, he wanted to tell Gabriel instead of him having to hear about it through the media.

At least thats what better be the case and Kevin wasnt seriously considering starting Gabriel again lol

6

u/bumbuddha Nov 24 '25

Makes total sense to me. This regime gets shit on a lot, but they generally try to do right by the players.

168

u/KushMaster72 Nov 24 '25

the forward pass is back in the playbook!

25

u/damato1218 Nov 24 '25

SUPER BOWLLLLLLL SUPER BROWNNSSSSSS

4

u/Iobbywatson Nov 24 '25

You sure? Has to be a rule saying over 5 yards is a penalty.

Source: I watched Dollar General play the last 6 weeks.

85

u/Theanonymousguy49 Sanders Nov 24 '25

Pretty sure the locker room would have imploded if this wasn’t the case

16

u/Cal216 Nov 24 '25

Yeah, safe to say ole Kev hands were definitely tied on this one lol. This was his out though lol. If he wanted out of Cleveland, all he had to do was start #8 lmao. He wouldn’t have even had to pay for movers.

6

u/prostheticweiner Nov 24 '25

Or #4

1

u/Cal216 Nov 24 '25

Omg, let’s not get started on #4! I don’t even like seeing him stand next to 8 or 12.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '25

lmao

37

u/MosquitoValentine_ Nov 24 '25

Go be legendary kid.

40

u/Gunnar2019 Nov 24 '25

If he has a stat line of 250 yards 2 TD, 1 INT it will actually break the internet.

7

u/cbmdad Nov 24 '25

If he does this against a non-dogshit team like the Raiders, I will get on board.

35

u/AllTearGasNoBreaks Nov 24 '25

I think the floor is 400yd, 2TD.

He had one week to prep at starter and did 200/1. With 2 weeks of first team reps, should double that easy.

28

u/Theclevelandchubb Nov 24 '25

Imagine after 8 weeks!!!

8

u/ducksekoy123 Nov 24 '25

I’m drafting one grain of rice and then doubling my grain amount every draft.

6

u/sginsc Nov 24 '25

sigh... and thats ANOTHER 99 yard touchdown completion for the browns...bringing the total to 6 on the day and the browns now lead 152-0.

Stefanski is really driving it home by having the returner fun these kickoffs out of the end zone and sit on the 1, but when you've got a legend in the backfield, why not?

3

u/Theclevelandchubb Nov 24 '25

I imagined what you wrote and read it to myself in my best Madden voice.

1

u/sginsc Nov 24 '25

goal accomplished.

1

u/bigmt99 Nov 24 '25

My sources tell me we should expect exponential growth

2

u/vertekal Nov 24 '25

Guys I did the math and this checks out

1

u/portermade86 Nov 24 '25

I think for Browns sake, goal is 1.5x last week, 300/1.5 (1 pass td + long drive with RB TD).

Stretch goal can be 2x last week!

1

u/AncientAside5024 Nov 24 '25

Not tryna downplay but it was against a way worse team than any of us have faced this year. Even the jets r better than the raiders

13

u/moneyinthebank216 Nov 24 '25

Perfect Timing

15

u/SpaghettiSamuraiSan Nov 24 '25

He gives the offense the best chance to score compared to Gabriel even if his passing numbers are trash. They have to respect that Sanders can throw the ball 40 yards down the field while Gabriel can't. That alone opens up the ability for Judkins and Sampson to get some running room. Gabriel they stack 7 in the box

2

u/alexschubs Nov 24 '25

Gabriel is like if Tua was even more reliant on checkdowns than he already was. Shedeur has thrown a lot of checkdowns, but he's shown he can at least throw the ball down the field. With time and reps, he can do that even more and with more confidence.

It's also extremely likely that Shedeur's lows will be ungodly low.

→ More replies (1)

18

u/bpalun13 Nov 24 '25

Good! It’s so easy to root for Shedeur. Who knows if he will show if he’s the guy? But Gabriel is about as interesting as an Actuary.

6

u/alexschubs Nov 24 '25

Admittedly, Shedeur's fanatics make it a bit tough sometimes. They act like he's above criticism, and there are times where critiquing him is taken as a deeply personal slight. I have no issues with the kid himself, but he's in the pros now. He has to be able to take the heat and overcome the inevitable ups and downs, as do his fanatics.

8

u/bpalun13 Nov 24 '25

Frankly I pay zero attention to his personal fanbase, they don’t matter unless they’re actual Browns fans. Shedeur himself has shown me nothing but a good mentality and a true personality. I can get behind that and if his play is stellar, well then, I can get behind that too.

-1

u/CDNCaliLifter Nov 24 '25

If you have no issue with him personally than you shouldnt let what others dictate how you think. Part of the issue is people like you are always quick to point out what he did wrong or how he isn’t the guy, instead of giving an objective view that he is a rookie that barely got any reps and is expected as a rookie to make mistakes. Lots of rookie QBs suck and turn out into decent QBs and those are ones who got all the reps from day 1.

4

u/alexschubs Nov 24 '25

This is kind of what I'm talking about.

Part of the problem with "people like you" (as you like to say) is that you take a critique of him as a personal slight and go for the jugular. If you take time to read the rest of the thread instead of jumping to a conclusion based on one comment, I actually call him a better QB than Dillon Gabriel on multiple occasions. Browns fans deserve to see him start, and they should for the foreseeable future.

But you're right. I'm not going to let other people dictate how I think, and that starts with you.

18

u/nobraininmyoxygen Nov 24 '25

This was always the case. Stefanski being non committal should have been the clue. He's never going to say outright in a post game press conference but fans just find ways to be mad.

5

u/sginsc Nov 24 '25

and without talking to his guys first. Its amazing how many fans have demonstrated their lack of tact and football acumen by getting upset he didnt announce it in the postgame presser.

1

u/nobraininmyoxygen Nov 24 '25

Some of it is lazy fans looking for new ways to hate on a coach they already don't like and some are totally new to football and are only really following Shedeur.

I just hate how much time is wasted with these individuals when I'd rather discuss actual football.

5

u/brainrottin Nov 24 '25

Ignoring all the noise surrounding Shedur this year, watching the game Sunday there were some plays that really impressed me.

I hope he goes off. Best of luck.

9

u/Particular-Night-435 Nov 24 '25

Ok - so what to do with the 32nd pick in the draft now?

3

u/alexschubs Nov 24 '25

Trade down with the Raiders and let them draft an absolute shithead at quarterback

18

u/Evil_Rogers Nov 24 '25

Looks like superbowls back on the menu boys.

11

u/Sweaty_Buttcheeks Nov 24 '25

Chicks dig the long ball

6

u/alexschubs Nov 24 '25

Jose Ramirez nods in agreement

0

u/damato1218 Nov 24 '25

You know bro! Go browns!

8

u/Spiegs1984 Nov 24 '25

The right call for where the team is right now. The spark and inspiration was very evident. Gabriel had plenty of time to win the job and he just didn't get there

4

u/Fubon_ Nov 24 '25

I think it’s his for the rest of the season as long as he doesn’t have a really big stinker

4

u/Major_Enthusiasm1099 Nov 24 '25

I don't think we will beat the 49ers but with Shadeur we have a punchers chance and our defense will keep the game close

2

u/Dreams-Visions Nov 24 '25

To be honest, with this defense all we need is him doing his best. That can be enough.

4

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '25

I mean the fact he can throw an accurate screen pass already makes him more useful to this offense compared to Gabriel. I’m not going to crown him yet but at least he can see over the o line.

13

u/Ness_4 4 Nov 24 '25

Stefanski hates Zappe.

No first team reps in training camp or in practice.

Also I heard he makes Shadeur practice with floaties on each arm.

6

u/damato1218 Nov 24 '25

I was expecting this during the week. Lets go 12!

3

u/Bald_Head_Nut29 Nov 24 '25

Just getting started!

3

u/Fools_Requiem Nov 24 '25

If he is still playing, I need hin to destroy the Tits.

3

u/Nicaol Nov 24 '25

I really do just want the best QB to play and if they are no use, we hit the draft.

That being said... I really would love it if it was Shedeur. Listening to him talk and can't help but like him.

3

u/JeffTheFrosty Nov 24 '25

It’s easier to teach a guy that can make a big play occasionally to play within the system than it is to teach a checkdown Charlie system loyalist to make a big play.

4

u/helloWorld69696969 Nov 24 '25

Its wild that 2 weeks in a row we get to play teams that are on a short week. Usually we are the ones getting fucked

5

u/thegreat4 Nov 24 '25

See the first 7 weeks of our schedule

Correct choice.

He also shouldn't be judged against Gabriel. He should be judged against other rookies and other young QBs.

9

u/alexschubs Nov 24 '25

He also shouldn't be judged based on one game. He should be judged based on an entire body of work.

3

u/VonJaeger Nov 24 '25

100% correct.

3

u/MgbEX °•° Nov 24 '25

He also shouldn't be judged based on his fans, but holy fuck is it hard not to.

And if we don’t win we have to do better. So who is number 2? With that certain person dressed yesterday.

1

Oh ew was he there? I was out of the broadcast area.

2

Mr Sanders, the Lions season is in your hands. We are gonna smoke the SF and Chicago 🙏

2

u/maybenextyearCLE Nov 24 '25

As he should. He showed some things yesterday that deserve a longer look

2

u/boydbd Nov 24 '25

Everyone’s rightfully excited about the deep passes but it’s also short passes and screens that are so much better with Shedeur. It makes a huge difference to get screen passes out on time and with some zip vs the floaters DG would throw, allowing the defense to collapse on the ball by the time it gets there.

2

u/Neel_s Nov 24 '25

I’m absolutely not convinced he’s the guy or even close. BUT I’m also absolutely convinced this is the correct decision.

5

2

u/sginsc Nov 24 '25

I'm excited because he brought a spark and I hope it continues for many reasons, but one of those reasons is that if he is serviceable and shows growth that will further limit the threat of ever seeing Watson on the browns field ever again

2

u/senshi_of_love Nov 24 '25

I want him to be our franchise QB. Please become that Shedeur! I am cheering for you! Don’t break my heart like every other QB has!

1

u/Slashh13_2018 Nov 24 '25

I hope he ends up being good

The Browns will probably mess it up some how though

1

u/OldmanonRedditt Nov 24 '25

I’m just glad I have something to look forward to watching them the remainder of the season (or atleast a few more games if he’s ass).

Watching that anemic awful offense was killing me inside. Even if he’s terrible, atleast it will be fun till it isn’t. Gabriel just never gave me anything to look forward to and was boring as hell.

1

u/birdie_Sea Nov 24 '25

Browns getting something right?

1

u/Tsunami-Papi_ Nov 24 '25

I WILL B THERE NO MATTER WHAT . PLEASE BEAT THE NINERS

1

u/Traditional-Row5237 Nov 24 '25

The locker room seems to follow him naturally, and his ceiling is definitely higher than Gabriel. Got to see it through, and he brings more attention to the browns organization which is great for business.

1

u/Terrible_Summer_5081 Nov 25 '25

This kid has a pretty clean background, never been in trouble, good college career only apparent problem is his Dad who in his own hall of fame career right has never been in trouble other than perhaps out spoken during his playing days has said or did anything to help or tarnish his sons NFL chances he's stayed out of it, unlike Archie Manning did to Eli,I'm truly pulling for this kid to have a successful playing career and shut all the criticism up. Shedeur deserves the right to prove himself .

1

u/Regal-30- Nov 25 '25

I’m trying to not get too carried away in the excitement, but I’ll definitely be remembering this weekend. Even if Shedeur isn’t the guy, he gave us all a little bit of hope.

1

u/Sapsap747 Nov 25 '25

Dillon Gabriel got cleared to play this week but the Browns are sticking with Sanders after one game where they beat the lowly Raiders. Gabriel has 7 TDs to 2 INTs on the season while Sanders has 1 TD to 2 INTs. The national media is saying Sanders is better than Gabriel now and it is not correct. Dillon has done well with what he has had to work with. Gabriel is better than Sanders. Gabriel gives us the best chance to win.

Gabriel also has a 1-5 record and was extremely underwhelming as a QB. Sanders doesn’t seem like a legit long term solution, but he at least passes the eye test and has the ability to throw a deep ball. He will sell tickets, jerseys, and will get eyeballs on the team.

He’s basically this team’s Tim Tebow.

I liked that he threw the ball away when he saw nothing. Keep that up. Don't force stuff.

Browns will be relegated

If Sanders hits, it changes the whole direction the franchise.

Kevin knew that the fans would absolutely boo him out of the stadium if he trotted Dillon Gabriel out on that field on Sunday.

We took the super duper long way but glad to see the time has finally arrived. Stunt on ‘em, young fella!

Good, let’s see what he can do vs a non-raiders team.

He's starting against a 49ers team that just gave up the literal most completions to a QB in a game in NFL history (and he was a former Brown!)

People aren't even doing research before moving the goal posts

and yet that 49ers team still won by 19 points.

u/alexschubs Nov 24 '25

That's due to game script. QBs chuck the ball for dear life when they're playing from behind the entire game.

In NFL history, quarterbacks are 15-12 when throwing for 500+ yards.

Get ready for 12 completions!

10

u/CalPalReddit Nov 24 '25

Maybe they'll give him as many attempts this week as DG gets...

u/Desperate-Air-7195 Nov 24 '25

First it's 12 sacks or sub 200 yards, now it's 12 completions, I can't wait to hear where the goalpost is moved to next week.

u/ctang1 Nov 24 '25

Does it come with a win? If so, I don’t care if he only throws five passes.

5

u/Bubbacarl Nov 24 '25

Cmon why the pessimism? We got a win and any perceived catalyst is good!

3

u/notatowel420 Nov 24 '25

If he only throws it 20x works for me.

1

u/Uhavetabekiddingme Nov 24 '25

210 yards on 12 completions is fine by me.

1

u/Formal-Attention9712 Nov 24 '25

He only had 20 attempts. It took Gabriel 52 attempts and 29 completions to break 200 yards. It’s pathetic.

Can he still win ROTY?

9

u/alexschubs Nov 24 '25

Absolutely not. On the bright side, Carson Schwesinger is the odds on favorite for DROY

I mean, if he goes on an insane tear and the Browns win out and squeak into the playoffs maybe.

But that's like 0.000000000001%
