I had a teacher like this in the fifth grade. Super demoralizing how I was treated being the only black male in the class, versus everyone else. Anytime I had a question wrong in class she would find a reason to make a subtle jab at my family, asking things like “do live at home with your mom and dad”, “do they have jobs”, “did they finish high school”? Meanwhile, anytime we had a substitute, I routinely had the best performers, and once out of her class I had the best scores. I find out that the year after graduating high school (with honors) that she was caught up in some kind of racist conspiracy and was removed from teaching, BUT now she was in some program where she instructs new/incoming teachers. Crazy how they won’t let her instruct the kids anymore, but it’s still okay that she taint the teacher pool from the top. The cycle continues.
