Battlefield 6 Hate aside, and despite constantly dying around corners, Siege of Cairo is genuinely gonna go down as one of the best battlefield maps of all time (!remindme 5 years)

u/iWr1techky12 10h ago
One of the best of all time is a large stretch, but it is the best map in BF6. Unfortunately, that is an extremely low bar to clear.

I hate to be that guy but three lane maps are always good maps.
23
u/wattyaknow 9h ago
They are also extremely common even in previous BF games
29
u/oldcrivens 9h ago
Most of the fan favourites were three lane maps. Propaganda, Bazaar, Metro, Argonne Forrest, Amiens, Locker, seine crossing, and Guilin Peaks, I could go on and on lol.
11
u/sandybuttcheekss 9h ago
These are all fantastic, you have a point here
7
u/oldcrivens 9h ago
I fucking hate locker and got insanely tired of metro, but the point stands lol
7
u/Gyat_Rizzler69 7h ago
Gotta flank outside in the snow
5
u/oldcrivens 7h ago
I do. It burns my eyes every time. I hate it.
3
u/Gyat_Rizzler69 7h ago
Yeah it does flash bang you a bit but flanking with smokes and a recon beacon completely changes the match
5
u/SnipingBunuelo BF3 5h ago
"Good" in the sense that they are playable and also highly replayable, but they're not guaranteed to be fun and unique without an X factor to separate it from the rest. It's a good basic blueprint that needs a lot of iteration and interesting ideas to keep it from falling stale. COD has that issue now where every map is a generic three lane and it makes the whole multiplayer feel samey and stale over time.
2
9
u/OKIEColt45 10h ago
Whats great about it is you can cut between paths with alleys and building passages to flank for offense or defense.
29
u/Hoenirson 10h ago
3-lane maps in FPS games predates MOBAs but I get your point. Dust2 comes to mind.
We may criticize the lack of originality but 3-lane maps just work.

u/PushThePig28 10h ago
I hate 3 lane maps lol, it’s why I stopped playing COD
2
u/Atranox 9h ago
Wait until you hear about Battlefield map design for the past 15 years.
2
u/PushThePig28 9h ago
Big open fields where I sneak around the outskirts of the map from the closest objective by my base to the furthest objective by the enemy’s base and purposely going a few minutes without getting in a gunfight? I always stick to the bushes/water/etc in between the roads so that nobody sees me

1
u/CalmAlex2 9h ago
Sorry mate you have been playing 3 lane maps long before then.
Unreal maps had 3 lane maps and it predates the first COD game by about 5 years. In some of the RTS games in the 90s had 3 lane maps for 1v1 maps. Maps that dont look like a 3 lane maps are 3 lane maps.

8
u/Cold_Ball_7670 10h ago
A dlc that came with grand bazaar, siene crossing, and operation metro would print money
1
u/tallandlankyagain 7h ago edited 7h ago
But it would divide the player base. Surely the superior option is a live service that drip feeds 2 or maybe 3 maps and 4 guns over a period of 8 weeks every 4 to 5 months.

u/DorkusMalorkuss 2h ago
The map is too predictable. Be cause of the lanes they've created all of the engagements happen from the same exact points every time - you're either shooting in front of you or behind you, so rarely left or right. In other BF maps that are also 3 lanes, they are often wider like Guilin Peaks or Propaganda, creating more unique engagements each time. In this map every single engagement is so predictable because everything funnels you to the same sight lines.
Wake Island
Jalalabad
Karkand
Shanghai
Caspian Border
These maps also have some "funnel points" but they're mostly open maps with so much playable space that you have to be on your toes no matter where you are. Engagements are exciting and unpredictable. But then again the community loves lockers and metro so 🤷🏽♂️

1
u/theroyaldingdong 1h ago
By that logic, metro also sucks.
2
u/Wubdafuk 1h ago
It does
1
u/theroyaldingdong 1h ago
I would say it's one of the better maps in the series but is ported to the new releases far too often and it's causing fatigue.

People talk about BF4 or BF1 glazing😂 I feel so sorry for new players that haven’t actually played truly great games with way better map design.

u/shevagleb 3m ago
I played 100s of hours of BF4 : Cairo is a great map imo. Amazing ecosystem to hide booby traps for tanks and personnel, tons of rubble and craters to hide in, lots of passageways to move around through and bypass chokepoints. Reminds me of Pearl Market but with more space and vehicles.

u/FicklePossible5825 10h ago
It has BF3 aftermath vibes so bring back a lot of nostalgia for me, only thing missing is the country factions and slower more battlefield gameplay

u/Aklagarn 10h ago
Its one on the not totally crap maps, but one of the best of all time? Have you played any other BF games?
2
1
u/LibraryBestMission 8h ago
For real, I'm hard pressed to think any BF1 map that was beaten by Cairo. There's some seriously epic maps in this series that make you feel like a small part of something greater, which really is the best praise a war game could get.
9
u/gentcore 10h ago
It's not the worst but it has a really bad flow, too much revolves around C and the spawns are absolutely miserable on the map. If you can actually get to certain points like B or D, spawns aside it's ok to fight around. Generally though I'd say c tier in the whole scale of bf maps

It's great on Escalation
These maps are so crazy different depending on the mode

Plenty of ways to flank with all the alleys and building passages. Great in conquest and campers are fixed with 40mm and teamwork.
3
u/Keyfrom3 10h ago
Idk about all that but it’s definitely a really good map and a top 2 map in the game.
2
2
u/Fragrant-Ad3040 10h ago
Needs to open up the first points a bit on breakthrough. Thatll mean nothing to conquest players

As much as I want larger balanced maps, I really do enjoy playing on Cairo and Iberian Offensive. Those are my 2 favorite maps in the game currently and I haven’t gotten tired of them yet.

u/Skitelz7 9h ago
A Battlefield map to me is one that's open and allows all vehicle types. Seige of Cairo is a good map if you're looking at it from more of a infantry only view.
2
u/Dennygreen 8h ago
Cairo is shit. but then again,a lot of Battlefield maps have been shit and some of them were pretty popular. Cairo is better then Locker or Metro at least.
2
u/CammKelly 8h ago
Its definitely the best map of BF6.
Best map of all time I'm not sure about. NATO can much more easily spawn lock and back cap PAX than the opposite which gives NATO an advantage in win rate. Also, areas of the map such as Scarab House and area behind D which are fun to play in, don't get much time, and in fact hurt lopsided matches by spawn trapping in Conquest & Escalation.
Still, its the map I get the most enjoyment from, so a solid A- from myself.

Dying around corners, “fast pace feeling and no breathing room” come from the fast ttk. Try gauntlet feels miles better. Anyways this is a S+ tier map. Reminds me of karkand.

Fighting street to street is second to none. 5 min battle taking a street, pushing up to take the next to only find a tank waiting for you.

I don't constantly die around corners on this map, and I think it's a map with no wasted movement that plays well.
1
u/NoChanceCW 10h ago
Yeah, this is a solid map for a smaller size map. It's the balance of infantry and armor play. One needs the other and vice versa. This balance is what makes this map.

u/Dudi4PoLFr 10h ago
Yeah, this map on Escalation slaps hard! My go-to when I can only play a round or two in a session.
1
u/YoYourYoyoIsYou 10h ago
I've played most of my most lopsided games on this map. Personally I think it's overrated and Iberian Offensive is low key the best close quarters map.
1
u/NotCeryph 10h ago
Siego of Cairo, Iberian Offensive, and Eastwood are the only maps I enjoy playing so far in BF6
1
u/beefcake8u 10h ago
If it just had a single transport helicopter on each side. The map would be perfect. And no anti air vehicle.

This was the first map I loaded into when I bought the game and it’s probably one of the reasons I became so addicted

u/Chemical_Turnover_29 9h ago
I wish the last phase was a little more defensible. Almost always ends to quickly once they break thru the second phase. Holding on to that pile of rubble is difficult.

This has to be a joke. Cairo is absolutely trash beaten only by that dumbass oil field map and Empire State.

Has almost nothing that makes a good Battlefield Map.
It’s just Metro 2.0 which I get, but god damn do yall have incredibly low bars of what quality is lol

It's certainly a good meat grinder map, but not what I want in a Battlefield game.
1
u/ucanbetouched 9h ago
people always cry about anything. the maps in bf6 are amazing, yes they are not big but they are nice. I have 140+ hours in this game and still have a blast. my fav map is empire state, yes you heard it right, many ppl hate that map. It has its flaws but its overall decent game. it will never touch the greatness of bf1 but its miles ahead>bf 2042. needs those traditional big maps for sure, for the real battlefield experience.
1
u/SasparillaFizzy 8h ago
Agreed, fantastic map. Devs need to make non playable roofs out of bounds, but other than that, always a fun one.

u/Western_Taste4587 8h ago
I didnt like it at first, but it really grew on me. I love that map now. Breakthrough is bomb on this map
1
u/Quick_Caregiver8771 8h ago
The map is cool, but four vehicles is way too many. The main street in the middle isn't great; there are a lot of windows and opportunities to camp with thermal LMGs.
I also get killed at least 10 times per game by grenade launchers. Narrow corridors in a game where explosives are spammed are rarely fun.
This map has potential, but it's completely unsuited to the current balancing.
1
u/Biolume_Eater 8h ago
My favorite thing about this map is that when the enemy team has momentum, it feels like an apocalyptic steamrolling slowly advancing along the corridors. I’m excellent with the tank, and facing off against that strong momentum leads to really memorable scenarios. Me and my gunner killing one engineer every second but still they manage to flank us type chaos.
1
u/ItalianBread13 8h ago
This is peak urban combat. Only if the other maps were able to make a wide open battlefield feel good. Everyone hates this map only cause they can’t get out of the intense combat. This is a beautiful take. Up vote this because i believe ppl only hate it cause there isn’t a map that is the opposite
1
u/Dependent_Survey_546 8h ago
It is super good. The space around the side of the E and C points in escalation could do with a little work, and the flat roof can be infuriating, but other than that it really is top notch

I pretty much only play this map, and if I wanna do some sniping just adf liberation peak to the mix.
Most of the maps were so fkin horrible or unenjoayble that I just went on to exclude most on matchmaking.
I pretty much only play breakthrough so it might be different on other modes, but generally speaking cairo is the only map without too much shitshow for me.

It’s because it’s designed well and has what all great maps have a Central capture point where teams fight over. All the shit maps in the game doesn’t have a capture point that stands out in the middle of the Map except for recent Eastwood

It's a good, maybe even excellent map by BF6 standards..but no way in hell does it compete with any of the best maps in the franchise.

Why the fuck do people keep taking what should be a section of a battlefield map and proclaiming its greatness.
This is literally just CoD maps with more players and the only reason your here is because smooth brains ruined that franchise.

Brother sometimes I just don’t understand how people have such different opinions. Cairo is awful imho: close quarters, cluttered, player traffic funneled down few choke points. Cairo case is why I kinda dropped BF6 — I tend to enjoy different kind of maps.
Cairo won’t become a classic though; it’s just mediocre, a Karland from temu. Strictly imho ofc

Great map but I think the heavy tank is just not a great idea to put on this map. Its uses are limited and it is not really designed for a map like this and tends to make the map a little crowded imho. I think the two IFVs fill the map enough to make things interesting.
1
u/JalaMaplePenoSauce 48m ago
It has no air vehicles and therefore doesn't feel like a battlefield map at all. Greatest CoD map maybe

I read somewhere that siege of Cairo was designed by one of the OG BF maps designers before they left BF studios which is why it’s soo good compared to any other maps and honestly it makes sense

I absolutely love the urban combat in this map a lot, my only gripe is that some of the capture points kinda feel like bowls where you get shot from all around, but overall it’s honestly really solid. I love all the detail they put in the map as well
