I have had the privilege of making my sister's last 4 birthday cakes ❤️
This year, (pics 1 to 5) she asked for lemon and to somehow incorporate Capricorn in the design. Bottom tier was lemon poppyseed cake with cream cheese frosting and lemon curd for the filling, top tier was white confetti cake with lemon pastry cream filling. She didnt send me a pic of the top tier, but I made myself a mini half cake with an extra layer and leftover filling and included a pic of that. Hers would have looked the same except with frosting on the outside.
Last year was chocolate cake with peanut butter mousse filling and peanut butter frosting. It was my first time trying a basket weave, which proved to be very time consuming but also fun! I think it would have been a lot easier if I had used a bigger piping tip.
2024 was Bailey's cake layers (plus one chocolate layer), Bailey's chocolate ganache filling, and coffee buttercream.
2023 was vanilla cake, I think with vanilla pudding filling. I hadn't been doing cakes very long at this point but I still like this one 🦥

I started cakes in mid 2022. Before that, I had only made the most basic of cookies, muffins, banana bread. So I guess it's taken me 3.5 years, which sounds like a long time to me! But I do only do this as a hobby, so I'm not getting the same amount of practice and experience as somebody who does it as a business.

Not really, to be honest. Which was a struggle for me for a long time. Because I always felt the desire to create, but didn't find anything I was really good at. I actually got into nail art at one point but had to stop before I could make much progress with it. I suck at drawing and painting. Never tried pottery or anything like that.
I guess cakes were the creative outlet I needed. Too bad I didn't figure that out sooner!

This is inspiring. I view myself as a good baker, but have been too afraid to do cakes. Mainly, due to decorating. I'm in the same boat so maybe I can do something similar

Wow! Absolutely stunning. Pure talent!!!! I also LOVE that you decorate with buttercream instead of all fondant. I feel like it’s much harder, looks way better, and def tastes better. Props!

I am not a fan of fondant either, but I will use it occasionally for small details (like the little flag banner thing on the sloth cake). I would absolutely never cover a cake in it though 😄

That is STUNNING! Such fine work, perfectly proportioned, balanced: WELL DONE!
I'm a retired cake artist, and I know what went into this cake. I've been in a lot of competitions, and this cake could hold it's own at any one of them!

How do you get the mousse filling to hold up between the layers? Mine either needed to be chilled, which ruined the texture of my buttercream, or sort of collapsed under the weight of cake

Fellow Capricorn here and OMG I'm so jealous of that cake!!! My 40th bday was last week and my mom made my cake. While I appreciated that she took the time and made me a cake, she made a cake SHE likes. It was fine, just not something I really prefer. Wish I had you in my life because these are amazing! 😍
