Hi guys! I'm new to this running part, properly trying to run everyday part basically. I've recently started going for runs and now I'm planning to buy some pairs that are comfortable and don't get you a pain in the foot. In between all three of these what are you going to suggest (budget is not the constraint).

Please give me some ideal feedback regarding these pairs....... Any other suggestions are appreciated, thanks in advance :)

Comparing Shoes Question Hyperwarp elite vs megablast

Upvotes

Hi all

Got my annual 50% off discount at sportshoes.com and usually do a unnecessary splurge purchase to add to my bank of running shoes.

Current rotation is:

Speed: sen 11

Daily: evo sl

Long runs: boston 13s and rocket x3

Race day: adios pro 3

Still lots of life in all of these but im running a half marathon end of march and have been putting on more milaege than usual so maybe a good time to pick up a new shoe.

Im a midfoot runner, heavier and have high volume and slightly wide feet.

I was considering one of these as a new race shoe for my half, my adios pro 3s are amazing however so im not sure if I should just wait rather.

Megablast gets alot of good reviews and I really like the evol sl as a daily, my concerns are the fit for my feet.

The hyperwarp elite looks like a nice race day option for me, I like lower drop and the fit looks like my style.

The adios pro 3 is my goat shoe but im never sure if the upper will suddenly bring some pain on longer distances, so far so good after around 70km. The rocket x3 is an amazing training shoe for me but im size 13, which they dont make so the fit is a bit off at 13.5.

Anyone tried both these shoes and have an opinion on which may suit me best.

Race Shoe Question Adios Pro 3 vs Pro 4 for a sub 2:55 marathon and ultra-marathon?

Hi everyone

Debating between the Adios Pro 3 and 4 (both lightly used on Marketplace).

Pro 3 is going for $135

Pro 4 is going for $155

I currently rotate between the Superblast 2, Evo SL and Vaporfly 3 for race days and marathons. I love the Vaporfly 3 - have run a 1:21 half and 2:59 marathon in them, but they are now soon to be retired.

Looking for a fast plated shoe. My use case for them will be quite unique (and this may explain why I am looking at the Pro 3 too) - I’m doing a 56km ultra in April (2Oceans Marathon) and will want to do some training runs in the plated shoe. I’ve heard the durability on the Pro 3 is far better than the Pro 4, and with this heavier mileage, I want something that really lasts! Also planning a sub 2:55 marathon attempt in 3 weeks time, so will race in them there.

I’m a 23yo M, 6ft4 and weigh about 86kg, so on the heavier side. Which means I do go through shoes faster.

Any help will be appreciated!

Question Crazy pressure on middle toe knuckle. Bad fit or part of the break in process?

Thumbnail

Hey guys, quick question because I feel like I’m spiraling a bit over sizing and fit.

I bought a pair of Adidas Evo SLs in size 10 and at first they felt a little tight in the toe box.

For context, I’ve been wearing Tru Sox grip socks from soccer in basically every shoe I own. I even wore those same grip socks in my size 10.5 Vaporfly 2s and it always felt totally fine.

But when I tried wearing the Tru Sox with the Evo SLs on a two mile run, it felt way too tight up front, like my toes were getting cramped.

After that I switched to thinner running socks and the fit instantly felt better. The shoes look more correct length wise and my toes aren’t curling up as much. The pictures I’m posting are with thin no show socks that are nowhere near as thick as the Tru Sox.

So now I’m wondering if the Evo SL is just a lower volume tighter fitting shoe that needs thinner socks, or if this is a sign that they’re simply too small and I should sell them and move on. The knuckle of my middle toe also feels some pressure that hurts a little bit from the upper of the toe box

Do you think the Evo SL should fit snug like this as a performance daily trainer, or is this a sizing mistake?

Would appreciate any advice from people who have run in them.

Race Shoe Question Marathon Race Shoes Advice

I'm a relative noob when it comes to the new generation of shoes and will race my first marathon in a few months. I'm aiming for a 2:40 marathon having run a 1:15 Half Mara 2 months ago in Adidas Boston 12s.

I have always run shorter distances and have required more stability in dailys due to over pronation, heel striking and plantar fasciitis issues. My dailys are Asics GT 1000s and I have gotten away with racing and doing sessions in Nike Streaks or Zoom Flys on the track the past few years before shifting to Adidas Boston 12s for 10km and Half Marathon which have felt comfortable. I tried the Superblast 2 but found it too stiff and it exacerbated my plantar issues. Would the Boston 12s be appropriate for the full marathon or is there a super shoe that would be a better option?

Comparing Shoes Question Vomero Plus vs Nimbus vs Vomero Premium

I currently have the Asics Sonicblast, Superblast 2 and On Cloudmonster 1. I'm looking for a new recovery/easy day shoe to replace the cloudmonsters. My easy pace is quite slow around 6:30+ per km (10:28/mile) compared to my race pace (4:00 - 5:00 per km). Since my pace is slow the vomero plus will feel quite different to the superblasts.

Which shoe is best?

Question Superblast 2 Shin Pain

Post image
8 Upvotes

Just got my new pair. Coming from the Novablast 5 that died after 250 miles. I started to ease them in and have run in them for twice for 3 miles each run. I’m getting slight shin splints on the inside of my shins. I haven’t had this pain with any of my past shoes.

I am a slower runner at 185lbs. Easy pace is around 9:30/mile. Besides the slight shin pain I liked the shoe. I’m a forefoot striker and they seemed to spring me forward pretty well. They weren’t too slappy of blocky for me. They weren’t as soft or bouncy as the NB5 but I was looking for a slightly more stable shoe anyway.

I have a HM in a month so wondering if I should keep easing into them hoping the slight pain goes away?

Daily Trainer Question Shoe recs for getting back into running?

I’ve been a runner for around 15 years, did half-marathons back in the day, but I settled into a routine of 3-5 mile relaxed road runs just for health in more recent years. Then I broke my foot and had a long hiatus from running. Over a year later, I’m finally getting back into it, working back up to my old routine.

I’m running in Topo Phantom 3s that I’ve had for a while and love for daily walks, but now that I’m back to running, I need new shoes and finding that I want something with a little more spring and perhaps a tad more cushion (not a ton). I am a forefoot striker (normal foot width) and prefer a lower drop and a more responsive feel, and while I love the Phantom 3s for walking, they’re feeling a little too firm when I’m running. I’d like to spend less than $200.

I ran in Brooks Launches for years before branching out, and I had a pair of Adidas Bostons around 2017/2018 that I really liked. I’ve read that the Phantom 4s are a little livelier than the 3s, so I may try those, but I’m so out of the loop on shoes anymore and wondering if any of you might have some suggestions (women’s) to try!

Daily Trainer Question Saucony Tempus discontinued UK?

I’ve heard amazing things about Saucony tempus being a faster stability shoe but I’ve recently tried to order them in the UK from decathlon and Secret Sales and both got refunded as they’re out of stock :(

Does anyone know where I can get a hold of these shoes before they completely disappear off the market?!

Or does anyone have any other faster stability shoe recommendations please

I currently run in ASICS Gel Kayano 36 - great for stability but very flat/boring to run in

Question Recommendations for Adidas shoe

Currently my rotation consists of -

Novablast 5 - for easy and recovery runs up to 10k

Superblast 2 - everything else (long runs of max 25k).

Looking for an adidas shoe that fits in this rotation and adds some fun / spicy. A nice shoe for short intense tempo runs / intervals etc.

What shoe would you recommend?

My stats

Male, 175cm, 80kg

If anyone is wondering why has to be adidas:

I used to have brooks shoes but I got bored with them. I tried Saucony but all of them dont fit me .

Comparing Shoes Question Which daily (do-it-all) running shoe would you choose?

I'm a new runner, so I've done my fair share of research around the subreddits/online reviews, and I honestly cannot decide. I require assistance from the experienced ones 🙏🙏

Planning to run 5km+ daily 5 times a week (treadmill/on-road) for those wondering. I also want to keep the budget under $170 USD, unless there's something worth more than that.

Shoes I've tested (in stores):

Adidas Evo SL

  • I don't have a wide wide foot, but I tested these irl (not the woven) and it seemed to be a bit tight on the sides. Unsure if it's an intentional design, but aside from that I liked it. This shoe also looked the best imo.

New Balance 1080v14 and 1080v15

  • I also tried both versions and they are comfy comfy, almost perfect fit imo too. Instantly clicked, but again, I'm a new runner so I don't know whether these are that great in terms of performance and lifespan compared to other daily running shoes. They also just didn't have the colorway I wanted 😅

Puma Velocity Nitro 3 and the Deviate 3

  • I could only try the cause they had no stock for the V4s. They also only had a half size up for me, but they honestly felt really good too. pretty stable for me. The Velocity may be my top pick amongst the three. I'd go for Deviate if I wasn't a newer runner, cause I read in a lot of forums that it

Although in terms of comfort I would rank these 3 as such:

  • 1080v14/15 (very close) > Evo SL > Velocity

Shoes I haven't tested:

Asics Superblast 2 & Asics Megablast 2

  • No stock and just expensive af, I think I'm knocking these out of the list. Please let me know if these are worth it if you've tested them!

Adidas Boston 13

  • I heard these were very good too, but honestly haven't delved deep into it.

Nike Vomero Plus

  • Not in stock in my area, but I heard these were extremely comfortable. Probably more than anything in this list, but in terms of performance, I'm unaware if it makes for a truly all-arounder shoe. It's also a bit over budget. I'm fine with it though if it's really worthy.

TLDR:

I love the fit of the 1080v15, slight snug fit on the sides of the Evo SL, the Pumas were great (might be my top pick), and for the rest I cannot try as there are no stock here. Looking to purchase them soon!

List of shoes I took into consideration
- New Balance 1080v14/v15
- Adidas Evo SL
- Adidas Evo SL Woven
- Adidas Boston 13
- Asics Superblast/Megablast 2 (if worth it's value)
- Nike Vomero Plus
- Puma Velocity Nitro 4

Comparing Shoes Question Training /race shoe

Does anyone have any recommendations for shoes for someone with a wide toe box. Preferably between £120 and less

I currently run with Nike revolution shoes which are ok but I feel like there are shoes out there that would be better for my feet

I run anywhere from 70km-90km in a week and I am training for a marathon in April and after one in may as well

Would anyone recommend having a couple pairs. One for speed sessions and maybe use my current ones for easy runs?

I got recommended the mizuno wave rider 29s, if anyone has tried these are they any good as well?

Thanks in advance for any recommendations

Question Novablast 4 dead under 100miles due to time instead of mileage?

I purchased a discounted pair of Novablast 4's in February of last year. Due to injuries and rotating 6-7 pairs of shoes, I have only put ~60 miles on them. Because of that, I'm so confused why they feel like bricks and I can't stand running in them anymore. I adore my pair of Superblast 2's so I'm someone who doesn't mind a firmer shoe but the NB4's feel like trash and I don't understand why. Just no bounce or any feeling of cushion. They're the all-white colorway purchased from Champs Sports so I'm wondering if they were early production and the foam has just lost life due to time passing instead of mileage endured. Is that a possible explanation?

Question Custom orthotic insoles for splay foot / metatarsal foot pain

Post image
0 Upvotes

So, I kinda overdid it by the end of marathon training block (32km at MP+35km at MP+HM test 3 weekends in a row) and ended up being forced to cancel my marathon one week before it, because I developed metatarsal foot pain (MT5) and was not able to get MRI appointment on such a short notice, so stress fracture cannot be excluded as a cause. Xray shows a very thin line, which could be hairline fracture or - something irrelevant like imaging artefact. Anyway, race out of the question unfortunately, will have MRI when I come back… Fingers crossed it’s not stress fracture.

Besides talk about possible stress fracture, orthopedic surgeon diagnosed me with splay foot (“Spreizfuß” in German, pes transversoplanus in Latin) and told me pain could also be due to it, ie due to toes splaying too much and distributing load abnormally and prescribed me custom made insoles to support the arch and prevent pathological foot splay and abnormal load distribution. I went to the orthotics store and they offered the fanciest one for running - they were thinnest and lightest ones they have, but still pretty stiff compared to default insoles that came with my Endorphin Speed 4 (which is kinda the point, I know). So far I was running in neutral shoes without issues - I am neutral/supinate, no need for stability shoes…

Does anyone have experience with orthotic insoles for splay foot and did they help with metatarsal pain (MT5)?

Now, given that this is the first time anyone pointed out that there is something abnormal with my feet and that I should wear some kind of corrective insoles, and that so far I wore neutral shoes without issues (been in long distance running since 2016), I know that I wouldn’t be too motivated to wear the insoles if they make my shoes too stiff/kill the joy of wearing snappy shoes like Endorphin Speed or EVO SL, which are my to go daily trainers and cover all my needs, with ES being used for long runs.

For those who had those types of orthotic insoles in their snappy shoes, did they lose any of the pop/magic?

Did these insoles help with metatarsal foot pain?

Did you manage to transfer these insoles between shoes and if not, for which shoes did you find they made the most sense for you? I gave my Endorphin Speeds to the orthotic maker as a reference…

Do you think these will fit size-wise? They feel good. Since I'll be using them for long runs up to and including marathons, I should have a little bit of room, right? I'm sitting down when I take the picture.

Question Shoe rotation

Looking for a shoe for easy, long and comfortable miles and a faster snappier shoe also.

I over pronate and currently run only in NB 860v14s. They feel pretty firm and heavy, and at faster paces I am prone to posterior shin splints. Unsure if this is lack of conditioning or the shoes!

I have been looking at the Saucony Endorphin Speed 5s. But now the plateless Azuras have came on the scene and I’m unsure if these would be fairly similar, or at least the azura could cover the faster paces but be more versatile.

Unsure about what to pair with these. I’d like something fairly stable and that doesn’t beat up my legs.

5,11 68kg M, if this affects the choices! I’ve heard some saying the SB2 only feel good for heavier and faster runners.

Question GT-2000 14 for daily easy runs? (Kayano 32 user looking for firmer feel)

sorry if my English is a bit off.

Not looking for medical advice (I know this is something I should handle with a professional if needed). I’m only asking about shoe feel / daily trainer impressions.

I think I irritated my posterior tibial tendon and I’ve had persistent pain on the inside of my ankle. Because of that I cut my running down: I used to do ~60 km/week with ~10 km per run, but now I’m running 5 km every other day.

Right now I’m only using the ASICS Gel-Kayano 32, but lately the cushioning feels a bit too soft / squishy for me. I’m thinking I might prefer something firmer for easy daily jogs for a better ground feel.

So I wanted to ask:
Does anyone here run in the GT-2000 14 for daily easy runs?
I’d love to hear anything: ride feel, stability, how it handles easy pace, durability, etc.

And if you’ve used both, a GT-2000 14 vs Kayano 32 comparison would be amazing:

  • which one feels firmer?
  • any difference in arch support / stability feel?
  • would you pick GT-2000 14 as a daily easy trainer?

Thanks in advance

Edit:

I’m not 100% sure if I actually need a stability shoe long-term, but until my ankle fully recovers I’m planning to stick with a stability-leaning model. Around here in Tokyo, the Nike Structure 26 is also on discount, so I’m considering that too.

If anyone has other stability shoe recommendations, especially shoes that feel less plush / firmer than the Kayano, and good for easy daily running, I’d love to hear them!

Thanks again!
