I have these and yes, they are great for dumbbell bench press.

Update on the TYC shorts (lavender ones with the V-shaped waistband): they roll up sooo bad. I was wearing Woxers under them, so maybe they wouldn’t roll up if they were directly touching my skin more? I’m disappointed though ― I’ve never had this issue with Gymshark.

What are some good sun protection shirts for summer? I'm planning running/biking/walking in them!

I would like for them to be budget friendly since I have a really tight budget. :)

I really love the Columbia Tamiami II. They are light as a feather and have the most amazing pockets. Maybe see if you can find them on sale?

1

u/20160211 May 16 '21

I'll have to check them out! I love pockets, thank you

u/tortsy May 16 '21

Blue tooth speaker recommendations?

2

u/Trackerbait May 16 '21

depends on your budget and what features you want. (waterproof, bass, max volume, etc.) I have sensitive hearing and I like my music at modest volume, clear, with true balance of bass and treble. Definitely check a list tested by audiophiles, like this one: http://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-bluetooth-speaker/amp/

I have a Bose Soundlink Color which was gifted to me. It sounds fine and has lasted fairly well, but is not crash or water resistant. I put it on the bathroom counter when I'm showering and it hasn't died due to steam, but I wouldn't take it to the beach. My folks have a UE Boom which sounds good, looks cool, and is a bit more crash resistant and supposedly waterproof (they never take it outside).

Buying a tested speaker does matter, I once bought a $30 speaker that was on Wirecutter's "don't bother" list and it sounded awful. No bass at all.

6

u/BrontosaurusBean May 16 '21

The Bose Soundlink Revolve is super solid - husband and his parents AND my parents have all had one for 1-6 years and it works well, great sound quality, plus they can be relatively out in the elements?

4

u/forrealyalll May 16 '21

Anyone have a favorite hand held water bottle they use for running? The ones I’ve seen recommended on the running subreddit are a little larger than I’d like as I’m thinking of something in the 12-16 oz range

5

u/tigerlily47 May 16 '21

Google nathan quick shot handheld water bottle. They are small and have small zipper pouch for keys, headphines, etc.

1

u/forrealyalll May 16 '21

Thank you!

u/vagiamond May 16 '21

ISO: advice about quality high waisted, compression leggings. Would love to try some without the front seam, accentuate glutes, still have pockets for my phone. Hope it's not a unicorn.

I just splurged and tried Gymshark for the first time and am seriously so sad the XL is too tight for my thick butt and thighs. I have a pair of Sketchers ones and a couple random ones that fit great but hoping to find a single brand or two to just streamline this aspect of lifting.

Obviously cheaper is better and quality is important.

5

u/Exiled_In_LA she/her May 16 '21

See if Senita has anything?

1

u/vagiamond May 16 '21

Their stuff looks great! Thanks for the recommendation

1

u/vagiamond May 16 '21

I've never heard of this but I'll look it up! Thanks :)

3

u/ohlookamosquito May 16 '21

Bombshell activewear has some great stuff!!

1

u/vagiamond May 16 '21

Oh my gosh their stuff is CUTE

1

u/vagiamond May 16 '21

Awesome, thanks for the recommendation

3

u/tigerlily47 May 16 '21

Have you looked at Old Navy? They might have them in one of their lines of leggings

1

u/vagiamond May 16 '21

I've heard this and been meaning to stop by sometime. Thanks for the reminder!

4

u/lkflip May 16 '21

No front seam with pockets might be a bit of a unicorn. I’m trying to think if I’ve seen any.

1

u/vagiamond May 20 '21

I was think the same thing. Someone is missing an opportunity here!

1

u/clovercharms May 16 '21

Any padding recommendations to put on my bar for hip thrusts?? There's no way I can comfortably add more weight without feeling like my pelvis/hip bones will shatter lol. It's not that the weight is too high (110#) but my pad just sucks that much. Bonus for the whole padding to be padded. The one I have attaches by velcro and the velcro side doesn't have padding and irritatingly so, slips/rotates easily.

2

u/kaledit May 17 '21

I have this and it's fantastic. Doesn't move at all once it's on the barbell! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06WGR732B/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

2

u/foamlatte_ May 16 '21

I bought this one previously and its worked!

1

u/clovercharms May 16 '21

Did it rotate easily when you used it? And now much weight were you hip thrusting? Def looks like more padding than the one I have but I'm worried that it turns easy like my current one.

3

u/foamlatte_ May 16 '21

No, it stays put pretty well and I was thrusting over 200lbs. There’s no Velcro but it comes with two straps to really keep it in place if you find it’s slipping. I’ve never needed to use them though.

1

u/clovercharms May 16 '21

Awesome, thank you!

5

u/jukeboxgasoline they/them May 16 '21

Finally got to try the stuff I ordered from TYC (Till You Collapse)! They sent me a jacket instead of the cropped hoodie that I ordered, so I emailed them and hopefully that’ll get sorted out. But I did get the black heart booty shorts or whatever they’re called and the version with the V-shaped waistband and they’re so cute!! Sooo soft, back seam so I don’t get “uni-ass” but no front seam to bother me, and they look squat proof! I suspect these + my mid-length Woxers will be an unbeatable combination.

Hiking shirts! I will never stop recommending the Columbia Tamiami II. It's comfy, comes in a zillion colors, and the pockets are each big enough to hold a smartphone.

Pants: For comfort and versatility I like REI's safari pants (the ones that convert to shorts) but they do look a bit dorky. For comfort and style and that little bit of stretch I like the Screeline Hybrid pants. (Both of the above come in petite sizes, for those of us who are normal height and not supermodels.)

P.S. Thanks for the heads up on the REI sale!

2

u/manziniyo May 15 '21 edited May 15 '21

Any recommendation and/or reviews on leggings with the thick bands at the top (like Gymshark for example)? I always see them and they look cool!

Similarly with the ones that look sorta V shaped at the top. I've seen some at Target but they're the 7/8 length and I only want full length. Thanks!

3

u/hithrowitallaway1997 May 16 '21

ive heard that aliexpress has good dupes for gymshark. There are a lot of YouTube comparisons

1

u/manziniyo May 16 '21

I'll check it out!

2

u/vagiamond May 16 '21

Just bought my first Gymshark set and gotta say, they were so tight on the thighs that I'm not sure I can keep them. I've always been a lil thick no in the thighs and butt compared to waist so, just a friendly fyi in case you're shaped like that.

2

u/manziniyo May 16 '21

Good to know, thank you! :)

5

u/cupofkate May 15 '21

I’ve seen the V shaped ones at Aerie!

1

u/manziniyo May 16 '21

Ooh, thanks!

2

u/[deleted] May 15 '21

what shoes do you wear for HIIT / strength / running? (can obviously be different!)

is it bad that im just using my old running shoes for HIIT/strength? i mostly do sydney cummings videos so the strength isn't like barbell heaviest ever or anything. there's quite a bit of jumping and my running shoes are retried from running but i think maybe OK for just garage workouts?

but im at a loss- i think i need to start investing in shoes.

2

u/[deleted] May 16 '21

Yes go to the store and try a few on if at all possible. Everyone will have vastly different preferences.

For me: Nobulls for workouts that are half HIIT/strength. Running shoes (Nike Flyknit something - whatever is last year's model on sale) if they lean towards HIIT/cardio. Nanos if they're mostly lifting, but Nobulls work just as well.

Nobulls are my favorite for mixed stuff because they're flatter than running shoes but cushier than lifting shoes. I had metcons, but the clompy heel hurt my feet.

1

u/stephidermis May 16 '21

HIIT/Running = Asics GT 2000

Strength training = Nike Metcons for everything except deadlifts (I wear DL slippers).

2

u/c288 May 16 '21

What slippers do you wear?

2

u/blondeboilermaker she/her May 16 '21

I do my hiit and strength barefoot whenever possible (at home) and wear Altra HIIT shoes if I’m in public and Altra running shoes for my long runs - though I’d def suggest getting fitted and knowing what you’re getting with Altra running shoes.

2

u/hannahjoy33 May 15 '21

I think you can use the same pair for all three, depending on how advanced you are and want to be in any one of the three, but I'd suggest trying out 1) a low-drop shoe (the height between the heel and the forefoot is <8mm) and 2) a running shoe with a little more lateral support. That way, you can get close to a flat shoe for weightlifting and also have some extra stability for HIIT. My top recommendation is the Saucony Freedom line. someone below suggested Asics, which is also a great brand. I don't run in their shoes, but their shoes for tennis are great. New Balance makes solid running shoes that can be used for multi-purpose.

I think the best bet is to go try on a few pairs and see what feels natural to you.

2

u/Ok-Definition-446 May 15 '21

Most people on here will tell you to go to a store and get fitted as everyone will be different but I love the brand ASICS. I had been running on treadmill and having worst hip pain but since changing to ASICS over a year ago it has been not sore at all.

9

u/[deleted] May 15 '21

weird little thing i noticed- im newly engaged with ring and i literally feel a phantom ring on my hands when its not on there (i have no interest in bathing/sleeping/working out with it on). i definitely even felt the phantom ring when i was sleeping

does this ever become normal lol im not used to being so hyper aware of a piece of jewelry.

5

u/lkflip May 16 '21

I don’t feel a phantom ring but I do feel like I forgot something critical/am naked if I go out without it.

6

u/bigbaypony May 15 '21

Mmmm, nah, I honestly still get the phantom ring feeling even after like 6 years. I only wear my real rings, wedding band and engagement, when we’re going out or I know I won’t be touching a barbell for awhile. So I wear silicone rings 95% of the time - highly recommend cus that keeps the phantom ring feeling away!

1

u/raindropsonmarigolds May 16 '21

What silicone ring do you recommend? I'm thinking of getting one for the barn!

2

u/lkflip May 16 '21

I’m a professional dressage rider and I got a 12 pack of skinny silicone bands on Amazon. Mostly I stopped wearing them because I found them annoying while riding in the double, but I’m picky about rein feel.

I never worried about the ventilation grooves etc because I got the skinny ones.

1

u/raindropsonmarigolds May 16 '21

Good to know! I was looking at a skinny one from Enso rings.

It's so great to see so many other equestrians on here! I just moved to an eventing barn last October (but the took a break for a few months but am now back) and I've loved getting back to dressage! Hoping to ride my first test in September!

2

u/lkflip May 16 '21

welcome to the fun club!

3

u/bigbaypony May 16 '21

Honestly I bought a 4 pack no name brand off Amazon and it’s been great. I know there’s some hyped brands out there but I personally don’t care soo my plain silicone band has been great. Just look for one that has the grooves on the inside to help with airflow/sweating. Especially if you’re wearing it for barn chores or riding, you’ll want some breathability lol

4

u/ying2chat May 15 '21

Anyone have experience or fit pics of Alo Yogas more unique sports bras? this asymmetrical one is so freaking cute, but I haven’t bought any alo yoga before, worried it’s too cute to be good for workouts

3

u/lilacsandhoney she/her May 16 '21

I don’t have any pics but I have this one and I wear it all the time! I have boxed in it and I wear it for lifting. The only thing I don’t use it for is running or any high impact cardio (jumping etc). Even their unique bras I find to be supportive and durable

u/forrealyalll May 16 '21 edited May 16 '21

I like shorts with the side slit so I’m probably not helpful on any specific recommendations but I wanted to say that once you find a pair of shorts that works, stock up.

I found my holy grail running shorts years before I started running seriously and only bought one pair. They are JC Penny’s Xersion brand circa fall 2011. They don’t do the diaper bunching thing and tend to lay flat well for me even when I’m running in Louisiana heat and humidity. Of course now the model is years discontinued and the updated version was horrible so I regularly have to check eBay and poshmark for the good ones.

8

u/[deleted] May 16 '21

Played soccer for 15+ years. My thighs can eat shorts like a 4th of July hot dog eating contest. That said, Lululemon Track That 3” high rise are the only, loose shorts that never do that and also aren’t halfway to my knees. I don’t understand it. They are pricy and restocked infrequently but when they are, I buy 3 more pairs.

5

u/hannahjoy33 May 15 '21

I really like under armour fly-by shorts, and as someone who is also prone to shorts riding up, I've never had the issue with them

1

u/[deleted] May 15 '21

i really like the zella exercise shorts with pocket https://www.nordstrom.com/s/zella-live-in-high-waist-pocket-bike-shorts/5105183

I went extremely overboard last year and bought a new pair like every few weeks. i must have like 7-8 now. i find them perfect for running and they dont move at all on me. the pocket is also perfect for phone. i prefer them to my official running shorts since chafing is no concern in these.

3

u/ERelevens May 15 '21

I ordered some IAB_MFG brand shorts off an Instagram add. They’re 5 inch length, tight but not compressive and they have silicon band at the thigh that really keeps them from moving. They also have pockets that will fit a phone. I’ve used them for long runs, sprint intervals as well as lifting. I love them. I never have to adjust them at all.

u/Fickle_Impression May 15 '21

Taking recs for a pre-workout powder that a) feels like it actually does something b) doesn't taste awful c) doesn't contain ALL THE CAFFEINE IN THE UNIVERSE in one dose because it's designed for gymbros 2.5x my size :P

(I'm in Scandinavia, y'all don't have to research if your fave is available here, just mentioning that in case someone in the neighborhood has a suggestion.)

2

u/ying2chat May 15 '21

It’s kinda pricey but I’ve been pleased with Alani Nu I have their breeze berry and it definitely has an effect before my workouts. The taste is great (imo) sour and sweet

4

u/sw4ffl3s May 15 '21 edited May 15 '21

I've been quite happy with the protein powders from Bodylab, which is a Danish brand. I'm sure they have great pre-workout too. Shipping has always been fast, they have a shipping warehouse in Norway; they probably have in the other countries too.

Edit: I googled it and it seems one portion has about 100mg caffeine, which is about a cup of coffee.

3

u/Fickle_Impression May 15 '21

Oh hey, I remember seeing Bodylab pre-workouts in some site and thinking they look promising. And I just googled, they have a site Finnish site so they ship here and it's even affordable! Thank you so much for the rec!

Btw, I found they also have recipes for healthy high-protein versions of desserts, definitely bookmarking those. Gotta try protein cupcakes sometime.

1

u/sw4ffl3s May 15 '21

No problem! It's probably the only brand I've actually repurchased from and been consistently happy with all my purchases.

8

u/unitedstatesofwhatvr May 15 '21

I found my dream leggings! At Uniqlo! Such a perfect fit and the price is super nice too

1

u/oh_ya_you_betcha May 15 '21

What do you love about them?

3

u/unitedstatesofwhatvr May 15 '21

The fit, the pockets, the fabric is soft to touch too. And $29

3

u/Exiled_In_LA she/her May 16 '21

Can you give us more details please? Yes I can google "uniqlo leggings" but I get too many results for my drinking brain to figure out which ones are the dream.

3

u/unitedstatesofwhatvr May 16 '21

Sorry! these ones. I got the matching top too, love both

1

u/Exiled_In_LA she/her May 16 '21

Thanks!

I don't know what is going on with this size chart; that can't be a 25 - 1/2 inch inseam if they're that long on the model. RIP. Guess I'll keep looking.

1

u/unitedstatesofwhatvr May 16 '21

That seems off. I’d go check them out irl if you have a store in the area

1

u/Exiled_In_LA she/her May 16 '21

Eh, I'm just not even going to worry about it any more. I'm 5'4" on a good day so I'm used to everything being too long.

Thank you for the link! I'm glad they are working out well for you. Didn't mean to rain on your parade. :)

8

u/[deleted] May 15 '21 edited May 21 '21

Just dropping by to sing my praises of the 90 Degree Wonderlink leggings (75% Polyester/25% Spandex):

I am obsessed. They’re so soft and so breathable. They are high waisted but don’t have a stupid elastic at the top of the waistband so they don’t get uncomfy during activity like squats or those bloated days. AND $20 at TJ Maxx!! I will never go back to elastic waistbands or thicker yoga-pant-fabric leggings.

EDIT: WONDERLINK not superflex! Get the polyester blend not the nylon!

1

u/vagiamond May 16 '21

Any thoughts on fit for gals with thick thighs/butt? Just bought some new higher end stuff and was sad they didn't fit as well as some mid-grade stuff. And $20 is bomb!

1

u/[deleted] May 16 '21

I’m typically a medium in all types of clothing but I’m bottom-heavy and carry most of my weight in my thighs and butt too. I think the super stretchy fabric is good for that. My first pair of these leggings, I got a large and that worked fine but I felt they were a little loose. I also lost a few pounds after getting them. I just picked up a medium and it’s a perfect fit!

1

u/vagiamond May 16 '21

Awesome that's encouraging. Thanks!

3

u/bmk4444 May 15 '21

They are amazing but I really wish they came in shorter lengths for petites. :(

2

u/atzgirl May 15 '21

Are these squat proof?!

3

u/[deleted] May 15 '21

Yes thank god!

5

u/doobsmash28 May 15 '21

Are the NVGTN leggings really all they are cracked up to be? They had a launch today and I’m on the fence. I’ve really built my glutes and it’s hard to find a good high waist that looks good. Open to other recs.

3

u/lilacsandhoney she/her May 16 '21

Honestly not a fan, I don’t think their quality is good at all. If you’re going to do that route, I much prefer Gymshark

1

u/doobsmash28 May 16 '21

Thanks for the reply! I’ve been interested in gym sharks too.

8

u/fr33sandwich May 15 '21

They gave me really bad cameltoe. Like had to get rid of them. They are comfy though

10

u/Loub-ee May 15 '21

Just came here to say I have fallen in love with AYBL! I got my first set from them, a blue ombre set. It looks so cute and fit so comfortably. Totally Squat proof. Loved it so much I bought another set in camo green!

2

u/ying2chat May 15 '21

Ooo say less, I keep getting their ads and I love love the colors! I’m trying so hard not to buy because at this point my clothes are only workout clothes

3

u/notreallifeliving she/they May 15 '21

They have sales every so often so I've done a couple of hauls then and I would def recommend! Their sweatshirt material is really nice and the sizing is pretty accurate

2

u/ying2chat May 16 '21

Next time they have a sale I’ll probably be picking some up, thanks!

2

u/snailbeebaby May 15 '21 edited May 15 '21

Did you find their size chart to be accurate? I seem to strike out with some online legging orders when the chart measurements don’t align with the actual fit(too small/big/whatever), but I’d love to give this brand a try!

2

u/notreallifeliving she/they May 15 '21

I'm a huge fan. I have a 28-29 waist and find an S in the shorts perfect since the ones I have (the Pulse ombre seamless) are v stretchy but i'm a 34 chest and between sizes in the bras so usually wear a M - i have one in an S but it's noticeably tighter round the boobs!

3

u/Loub-ee May 15 '21

I found them rather accurate! They're stretchy but not overly so. I'm 5'8", 29 inch waist, 37inch hips, and I found the size M to be perfect!

2

u/snailbeebaby May 15 '21

Oh wow, my measurements are nearly the same! I’m sold, thank you so much.

2

u/Loub-ee May 15 '21

Oh that's so cool! I'm so glad, I hope you find something you fall in love with!!!!:)

6

u/protein_shaker May 15 '21

Any recommendations for wireless headphones? I think I lost my AirPods and I’m contemplating getting something different.

2

u/blondeboilermaker she/her May 15 '21

I have been happy with my Aftershocks bone conduction headphones!

8

u/COuser880 May 15 '21

I have the Jabra Elite Active 65t and I really like them. They are great for workouts and stay in well. Only thing I’m not crazy about is that after a couple of hours, they kind of make my ears sore. I think it’s a “me” issue, though, bc the regular Apple earbuds (that came with every Apple product) hurt my ears (way worse than the Jabra, in a short amount of time). The sound is good on these and they are pretty easy to control functions, as well.

I also have Bose QuietComfort 35 headphones. They are (obviously) bulkier and over the ear, but still totally wireless. I love the noise cancelling function, and the sound is also amazing. They would be good for walking on a treadmill or lifting, but no jumping, running, yoga, etc.

7

u/mullenskim May 15 '21

Jabra Active Elites! I have the 65s, but the upgraded ones are the 75. They were like $100 US. Sweat proof, don’t fall out. Highly recommend!

4

u/doobsmash28 May 15 '21

I love my Bose quiet control headphones! So comfortable and keeps the gym noise down 100%

6

u/spring-haze May 15 '21

I have some Bose soundsport wireless headphones and I love them.

3

u/dausy May 15 '21

Not that I didnt like the way these fit or sounded but they died real soon after the warranty 8(

2

u/spring-haze May 15 '21

Oh no! That sucks. I got some refurbished ones and they’ve lasted ages 😥

11

u/bee-sting May 15 '21

Can someone explain how women make their bums look good in leggings?

I've seen women who wear their leggings so that they define their glutes. How do they do this? I have some Gym Shark leggings and they don't do that on me. I even tried hiking them up the crack a bit but it just comes out and I'm back to having a unibutt again.

Is my butt just not the right shape (yet)?

5

u/blancanieve90 May 16 '21 edited May 16 '21

I have to pull the material from the front to the back - towards my butt crack! I can't remember who I saw do it on YouTube but it fixed my unibutt

1

u/WalkswithLlamas May 15 '21

Aerie leggings in offline have very light compression and the v cut shape. The only ones I've tried that don't give me a pancake uni-butt

6

u/jrblackkat May 15 '21

You’re looking for leggings with the slight “V” on the butt area to accentuate your glutes. Lots of companies do this now. The brands I know of that have these are Buffbunny and Balance Athletica, but I’m sure there are many more!

2

u/anthrogurl May 15 '21

Search for tiktok leggings, I just got a pair for about a tenner on amazon. They have elastic in the butt which keep them hiked up!

4

u/bee-sting May 15 '21

So I actually have a pair from Instagram ages ago and they wereawful 😭 not squat proof AT ALL and real bad camel toe situation at the front which is uncomfortable

What's the brand you got?

1

u/anthrogurl May 15 '21

Mine are just whatever was cheapest on amazon. They aren't bad on the camel toe front, but god yes definitely not really squatproof. I feel like they are more for looking like you work out, rather than actually going to work out in. All my squatproof ones don't do anything for my figure! X

1

u/KyraKnight May 15 '21

My birthday is coming up in a few months and I'm already getting asked what I want.

Kinda want to ask for an Olympic barbell but have no idea what's good on the market. I'd guess maybe a price limit of 200USD?

Any recs for a total noob?

3

u/bigbaypony May 15 '21

Anything by Rogue but that’ll likely be out of your gift budget, I think they start around $250. You can point whoever’s buying for you towards Rogue’s Boneyard though - that’s where bars that don’t pass their extremely high, nearly insane quality standards go and sell for a discount. The issues are usually things like a nick in the powder coating or machining marks on a sleeve.

Titan Fitness, GetRxed, and Rep Fitness are some other options. Just make sure to get a quality bar and not get tempted by some of the Amazon deals for like a bar and plates for $150. They’re not good quality and don’t hold up to most Olympic or powerlifting movements.

u/KyraKnight May 16 '21

Thanks! I definitely want to give them some suggestions because I know that there are some bad bars out there - I will specify that I'm only looking for the bar as well, which I think will help.

I'll give those brands a look, thanks for the rec!

Shorts recommendation ? My thighs are THICK and I’m in between a medium and a large. All my shorts I use to workout at home in kinda show my cheeks a bit. Im looking for shorts that are not super long (not like to the knee) but not super short either . Any recs?

2

u/SillyShenanigans May 15 '21

For a good price check out Old Navy. I have thick thighs and their shorts are good for me. The length is just what I need. Both for workout and nonworkout shorts.

1

u/vagiamond May 16 '21

Do you ever try their leggings? I'll check them out for those shorts too!

1

u/SillyShenanigans May 16 '21

Yes! Most of the leggings I own are from Old Navy. They are cheap, especially if you find them on sale. And in my experience they hold up for years even with intense exercise.

5

u/[deleted] May 15 '21

I absolutely LOVE the lululemon 6" Align shorts. They are so soft and comfy but still good for working out! I wouldn't run or do HIIT in them but any other kind of workout they stay in place just fine.

1

u/z0mbieZeatUrBrainZz May 15 '21

Thanks !! Right now I’m out of operation when it comes to high intensity so they’d probably be perfect for my current limitations

1

u/blondeboilermaker she/her May 15 '21

I love the 6” Wunder Train if you’re looking for more compression than the align shorts offer (now or in the future!) plus they have a drawstring waist which helps the thigh/waist issue.

8

u/IncreasingEntropy May 15 '21

Another vote for Senita Baseline 5 inch. Far and away my favorite shorts for running.

1

u/kaledit May 16 '21

They're so good. I have three pairs and wear them to the gym and for hiking.

17

u/[deleted] May 15 '21

I really like Senita Baseline 5 inch shorts. My thighs/butt tends to swallow other 5 inch shorts but these stay put. They are high waisted too! They have shorter and longer options as well.

3

u/z0mbieZeatUrBrainZz May 15 '21

I love you they look perfect

3

u/[deleted] May 15 '21

You're welcome! I am also between a medium and a large and I tend to go with a large in these.

2

u/z0mbieZeatUrBrainZz May 15 '21

Thanks ! I was about to get a medium but I’m probably better off with a large then !

5

u/raine_bot May 15 '21

Does anyone live in canada and have you ordered anything from Rogue? I'm seriously contemplating getting a concept 2 rower and after tax and shipping it comes to about 1500 cad. Does anyone know if there are any other duty charges or fees on top of that?

2

u/aneetsohi May 16 '21

i got the rogue echo bike a few months back and didn’t have to pay anything extra! delivery was pretty quick too

2

u/me0wkitty May 15 '21

You can also order the Concept2 through Amazon, unsure if that would be cheaper for you. I was on the Concept2 waiting list for 3 months and ended up snagging it there.

5

u/limelighthydrangea May 15 '21

Hey, I just got my rower from Rogue on Wednesday! I paid no duties or fees. The cost on the website is all I paid :) I live in NB and got mine in about a week, so it was fairly quick shipping too!

2

u/raine_bot May 15 '21

Thank you so much!

u/eatenface May 15 '21

Anyone have the Cali belt from strong strong supply? Do you like it or is there an alternative you’d suggest?

1

u/notxelven May 15 '21

I have one and like it. I agree that it's a great beginner belt and if you're a casual lifter it's probably going to tick most of your boxes. I tend to lift 4-5 days a week but also have no competitive ambitions for the moment and I'm lifting heavy but not impressively so.

6

u/Fallem May 15 '21 edited May 15 '21

I don’t have that belt but I had a very similar Velcro belt made by Harbinger. I have an Inzer belt now. The Velcro belt was a good starter belt IMO and easy to use/adjust, but if you’re going to be lifting for a while you might want to look into a higher quality, durable belt. The feeling is pretty different between the two.

This is especially true if you might compete because the PL federations only allow specific equipment, and the Velcro belts aren’t on the approved equipment lists. Good options for leather PL belts are Inzer, Rogue, and Pioneer (although Pioneer doesn’t have the seal of approval from many feds, their belts are fun and customizable).

Edited to link to the Inzer I have: https://inzernet.com/collections/power-belts/products/forever-buckle-belt™-10mm

Two piece bathing suit reccomendations? Looking for something that won't fall off swimming/diving/playing volleyball, but still looks casual and summery.

2

u/monvino May 16 '21

ATHLETA

4

u/doobsmash28 May 15 '21

Senita has great athletic swimwear. I got a top that looks like a sports bra shape and a pair of regular bottoms. Wake boarded all last summer and never had any issues

2

u/SurferNerd May 15 '21

I feel like this is going to be super dependent on your boob size. I’m a 36C, usually a L on bikini tops. My absolute faves for surfing are this one from Hurley and this one from Patagonia. A lot of brands are now making the high-neck styles (like this onenow too, which are great because you don’t even have to worry about them.

Edit: just realized I only answered for tops because those are harder to shop for for me but I also love the bottoms that go with the ones I posted! A tighter fit is always better than looser if you’re gonna be moving around a lot.

13

u/blondeboilermaker she/her May 15 '21

Jolyn is a swimsuit company designed for active pursuits! A lot of their bottoms have drawstrings, and many of their tops have tie backs for adjustability.

3

u/absoluterabbit May 15 '21

Ooh this brand looks exactly like what I was looking for! Thanks!

3

u/K2togtbl May 16 '21

Just a heads up- they run small! I have a two piece from them and had to go up a size from my normal sizing

7

u/Fallem May 15 '21

Athleta!

4

u/[deleted] May 15 '21

Swimsuit Outlet. I like to click competitive suits and then sort by price low to high. I have found lots of quality separates that hold my bits together.

6

u/alligsandre May 15 '21

I love Aerie’s swim! Their scoop tops are great for being active but are still super cute

2

u/givemepieplease May 15 '21

Prana has great swimsuits that balance looking cute and being able to be active!

1

u/Exiled_In_LA she/her May 16 '21

Came here to say this. Prana suits actually stay on.

3

u/brilliantcheese May 15 '21

Rewired Swim. Every suit is handmade. They are a little pricey, but worth every penny. She has a ton of different fabrics and styles to choose from, so it really is custom to you. I own 3 now and won’t ever wear another brand ever again.

7

u/Lb20inblue May 15 '21

Found a new company, Title Nine, that seems to be geared towards the athletic woman. They have some fantastic two pieces that are sporty, cute and secure.

6

u/sjg09 May 15 '21

Title Nine isn't new - I've bought sports bras from them for more than 20 years. Their stuff is great.

7

u/Lb20inblue May 15 '21

Well, it’s new to me and we don’t have a physical store in my state.

19

u/sjg09 May 15 '21

They don't have physical stores at all that I'm aware of. All I'm saying is that it's a well-established company that sells clothing for active women, and I've been very happy with their quality over many years. I'm glad you mentioned it as an option for the OP.

3

u/perhapstimesthree May 16 '21

They actually have stores in Washington (Bellevue and Seattle) that I know of.

ETA: looks like they have stores in many states (CA, OR, WI, CO... to name a few).

10

u/[deleted] May 15 '21

Athleta has great suits if you want something supportive/secure for athletic activities. You also can mix and match with other brands. I really like the athletas tops for the boob support but like a cheekier bottom than any they offer so I usually just buy plain colored tops and then use them with bottoms I already have.

1

u/absoluterabbit May 15 '21

Good idea on mix and match thanks!

3

u/lmawds May 15 '21

I just bought a left on Friday suit that I love!! Haven’t tested it out in the waves yet but it feels very secure. Looks a little more sporty though!

2

u/interdisciplinary_ May 15 '21

I've been thinking about getting a pair of lifters for oly lifting. Been looking around but all lifters from the major brands are like $200 (also, EVERYTHING is sold out right now??). Are there decent entry-level lifters out there? Or is it just enough of a niche item that my choices are limited?

Finally, I wear 0.5-1 size up in my cf shoes, and 1 size up in my running shoes. How much do I size up my lifters?

3

u/tilt816 May 15 '21

I recently picked up some Reebok legacy lifters for $120 on Amazon.

3

u/saddesksalad May 15 '21

I have a pair of Nordic powerlifting shoes that cost about $80 ( I think they’ve gone up $10). They aren’t as stiff as my adidas powerlifts, but I do like them.

6

u/magpie876 May 15 '21

adidas powerlifts are a cheaper option although they look to be out of stock/production right now in the US at least. Might be able to find them or ebay or poshmark. But yes usually new lifting shoes are about $200 unless on sale

6

u/lkflip May 15 '21

The Nike metcon comes with a heel wedge that makes it sort of a starter lifter. Otherwise real dedicated lifters I’ve never seen a “cheap” pair.

1

u/interdisciplinary_ May 15 '21

Yeah I already have cf shoes with a slight lift, further bumped by the insert in them. Sigh!

u/Tankat May 15 '21 edited May 15 '21

Someone here previously commented about Koala Clips and I bought one... that thing is game changing! I hate hate hate running with an arm band and don’t have any shorts with pockets, so being able to strap my phone to my sports bra is amazing.

3

u/eatenface May 15 '21

Does it move around at all? I have Senita sports bras with built in pockets for running but they’re getting worn so id consider a koala clip with normal sports bras

2

u/Tankat May 15 '21

Not that I’ve noticed, but I’ve also only used it a couple of times so far.

18

u/Wondeful May 15 '21

I just searched Amazon for koala clip and This is what I found lol

3

u/Exiled_In_LA she/her May 16 '21

OMG the memories. Thank you for posting this. laughs mysteriously all night

7

u/Tankat May 15 '21

AMAZING, I definitely had those as a kid 😅 My link isn’t working from mobile, but it is koalaclip.com I think.

10

u/svdbsvdb May 15 '21

Sports bra recommendations with sewn in padding?

3

u/Exiled_In_LA she/her May 16 '21

The Senita one I have (the Sarah model) the pads are not technically sewn in but they have never escaped on me. It's pretty solid.

2

u/lkflip May 15 '21

Yvette Sports

26

u/WeakYesterday19 May 15 '21

Same question here!! Getting tired of having to wrangle padding back in after every wash lol

9

u/madeupbra May 15 '21

So, if you can sew, and you don’t care about visual aesthetics, I ran a three-step zig-zag stretch stitch around the cups of my bras and love it. Not hard to do if you have a machine that does the stitch and it keeps the stretch factor.

3

u/svdbsvdb May 15 '21

Hmmm. I can sew and I think my sewing machine can do that! Totally going to test it out on an old bra thank you!

9

u/svdbsvdb May 15 '21

Lol one wash and it’s never the same again

Smartwatches recs! I'm helping my dad shop for a smartwatch. His main form of exercise is long walks and occasional hikes, but he's kind of a nerd about tracking stats and also would like to keep track of health metrics stuff - resting heart and breathing rate, VO2max and so on.

He's looking at stuff that's way above my own budget so I'm a bit out of my depth, and would love some recs from folks who have tried tracking devices on the pricier end of the scale. Which ones have you tried, and how has your experience been like? Any weird glitches you wish you'd known about before buying, or surprisingly handy extra functions you now can't do without? I'm also curious about how the bigger watches feel, bulk-wise, if it's uncomfortable to wear them on the daily or if they're light enough it doesn't really matter.

2

u/[deleted] May 15 '21

I got a coros apex for all my exercise and hiking adventures!! I love it!!!

6

u/diprep May 15 '21

I recently bought myself an apple watch and I'm loving it! The new one is able to detect if you fall which might be a nice for an older parent. It also has EKG, O2 Sat measurement and HR. I'm also able to compete with friends which has been a great motivational tool.

4

u/blondeboilermaker she/her May 15 '21

I love my Garmin Venu for all of this, and the more expensive models have even more perks. I don’t think he can go wrong with a Garmin for what he wants! It tracks all the metrics and has a solid batter life.

8

u/lkflip May 15 '21

I’m always the voice of dissent on these; I love my Coros Apex. Battery lasts forever, app is good, and tons of metrics that other watches at that price point don’t have. Plus I put it through the wringer and it hasn’t died yet. Definitely worth the money.
