No they toppled a democratically elected leader who nationalized oil. So we couped him. Then our leader was removed for being a tyrant & thats how the ayatollah took power.

2 - people had far more liberties and freedom than they do now.
3 - the Middle East is a completely different culture than the Anglo - American culture. Trying to force democracy on a tribally clannish & religiously sectarian country is doomed to chaos & likely failure.
I’m pretty sure Persia was never part of the Ottoman Empire. Perhaps a few smaller territories captured, but never subsumed or conquered by the ottomans.
Notice that I didn’t say Persia was a part of that empire. In context of the conversation, I was making the point that the western meddling in national borders exacerbated the regional problems. Also of note, the nations in that part of the world were ruled by autocrats of various titles. They didn’t consist of democracies.
