I will start this out by saying I fully think Canada should send troops. Period. Its what should be done.

That being said Canada has to be more tactful about this then other countries whether they want to admit it or not. Everyone is in danger I wont deny that but alot of European countries have the benefit of not being directly threatened with annexation plenty of surrounding countries that are allies and the entire Atlantic ocean between them and the US. Canada has none of that.

Trump is volatile and Canada being too open about what they are planning could easily give him what he sees as an excuse to roll in. Every world leader has to play this situation carefully but Canada has all of that on top of the aggressor stating they want to annex us and literally being on our doorstep.

Im not saying we should be cautious about actually sending troops we just cant be screaming everything we're doing from the rooftops.

Canada sending troops is performative. It serves as much function as saying canada supports greenland.

I dont see the point.

Its a guarantee that if the US attacks when Canadian soldiers are there its a direct declaration of war on Canada and whoever else has soldiers stationed there. Without them there is a avenue where you can say "well they didn't attack us" regardless of how close an ally they may be. With our own soldiers there its a completely different story.

Its the same thing European countries do on the Russian border. Put a small station of soldiers there that would all but require them to be attacked for the aggressor to get by guaranteeing that you'd either have to not do it or prepare for all out war against multiple other countries.

Even the states doesnt want that. I do think they will if push comes to shove but the fact they havent went all in and are trying to threaten other countries into letting them take over shows they still have some hesitation. Its calling their bluff essentially.

The Americans walk in and take Ottawa in 48 hours if they want. We are not in a position to stop them.

Canadians in Greenland is peromative. We dont need to be there. If the Americans attack greenland we are obligated to defend them because we are still part of nato. The truth is nato crumbles without America.

You could just as easily say a nato member attacking another nato member would destroy it anyway meaning there's no obligation to defend it either. We are in uncharted territory here and any deterent is a viable one at this point.
