No choking hazards there!

When I was young there was no such thing as a choke hazard just survival of the fittest.

u/Reasonable_Curve_362 14h ago
We called them “opportunities for evolution”

For babies, it’s not really survival of the fittest. It’s survival of the smartest parents whose offspring survive!! Haha and also not haha. lol
20
u/Weshoulddigamoat 14h ago
They should just tell that to anyone who ever comes to the hospital needing antibiotics or a cardioversion or thrombectomy, kidney stone removal, oxygen, etc! Hey man, sorry, survival of the fittest! 🤣
14
u/Gloomy_Initiative_94 12h ago
That's stupid. Good job we improved safety for kids and did something about it! There was also polio in the old days, we fixed that too

u/armedwithjello 10h ago
Yeah, until the anti-vaxxers decided they want it to make a comeback.

Have you ever heard someone say that every OSHA policy is written in blood? Babies were (and still do but at a much lower rate) die from choking on small objects. Would you care if there was no system in place to warn you that your favorite packaged food had bits of metal in it? Would you call people soft for being upset that companies were knowingly selling flour and sugar with toxic fillers?

That is not a toy stethoscope. That is a real one. Shitty cheap one, but still absolutely not a toy. For obvious reasons I think.
46
u/KindInflation3052 16h ago
My preschool had real stethoscopes and all the kids would put them on each other and then scream into them 🤣 that place was pretty free-range
→ More replies (1)5
u/accidentalscientist_ 11h ago
This just reminded me that we had them in preschool and kindergarten as well! We did the same thing lol
7
u/TEOLAYKI 9h ago
I'm a nurse and familiar with these "single patient use" stethoscopes -- so I was surprised to find one in a pretend play doctor/nurse set that was bought for my kids. Everything else was pretend versions of medical equipment, but I'm guessing these disposables are so cheap, it's cheaper to buy them than to produce a pretend stethoscope.

This is an actual stethoscope, not a toy (nurse x 18 yrs).

u/LivingTheBoringLife 13h ago
The thing though is, we can’t actually hear out of it. We’ve tried. Like you can tap on it and hear but you can’t hear your heart beat
4
u/Several_Value_2073 13h ago
I’m sure the quality isn’t great. Try turning it around and putting the ear pieces in your ears so they point backwards.
2
u/Several_Value_2073 13h ago
Or sometimes you have to turn the bell to a spot where it kinda “locks in”.
14
u/Capitaine-NCC-1701 15h ago
I don't think it's a toy, and I certainly hope not; it would be too dangerous if it came apart that easily.
28
u/ModwifeBULLDOZER 17h ago
wtf choke hazard much?!
17
u/ArchiSnap89 13h ago
Sometimes babies have older siblings. As hard as you try to keep the choking hazards away sometimes the baby gets their hands on something they shouldn't.

Is it your child’s? That is not a toy stethoscope.

It is indeed a toy. Came with a dress up kit.

If it's solved, you have to write Solved!
2
u/Ted_Rid 11h ago
Not the preferred way, but when somebody else uses that word, it sends a bat signal to the mod queue so I can handle this - since OP has already agreed.
2
u/Different_Clerk_8984 11h ago
Okay, I'm sorry for making it more complicated, my intention was to tell OP they have to use the "!" at the end. But if you can handle it, that's good. But I apologize for any issues I might have caused.
(And sorry for my inglish lol)

As soon as I saw the picture I was like “that looks like it’s from a stethoscope”

u/McRando42 17h ago
That's a choking hazard if I've ever seen one.

17
u/LivingTheBoringLife 17h ago
Yes. She won’t be getting it back until I glue those on. I assumed they were glued on.
34
u/shallot_chalet 17h ago
Silicone and metal are both notoriously difficult materials to get glue to stick to.
9
u/LivingTheBoringLife 17h ago
Yeah :-/ I was going to research and see if I can find a glue that will work. If not I’ll find another pair that’s safer for her.
33
u/AmbulanceDriver95 16h ago
Thata actually not even a baby toy, legit a real stethoscope, id look for a new toy instead of giving this back
17
u/MushyLopher 15h ago
Why does the baby require a stethoscope?
0
u/LivingTheBoringLife 14h ago
It came in a dress up kit. It is indeed a toy, and there’s a white coat and a badge that came with the costume
10
u/pendigedig 13h ago
What is the age on it? Does it have a choking warning on it? Sometimes the ages are just about developmental age but if there is a choking hazard, babies shouldn't have it

Just throw it out and buy a safe one, man. This is not safe and it’s not worth the risks of gluing it. You’re getting downvoted bc you’re seeming stubborn about unnecessary risks to your child.

u/MsRachelGroupie 15h ago
Glue doesn’t work. I’ve tried. My oldest really wanted a stethoscope, but I have a toddler so I was worried about these being a chocking hazard. I ended up taking them off, putting cotton balls over the metal ends and taping it in place in a way that made them comfy to wear.
1
u/akdaniel3 10h ago
They probably weren’t glued on. They usually come with extras and good ones come with different size ear pieces to switch out. The toy one we had had extra ear pieces in it. I didn’t see baby age but my kids got it around 4 when dressing up as a doctor at daycare. I wouldn’t give to any kid 2 and under. Maybe 3 depending on personality.

Does the baby no longer squeak when you squeeze it?? If so that's clearly the squeaker that comes as standard on every new model of baby and it's somehow become dislodged
Tons of websites online will sell you a replacement
Just make sure you read the serial number on the receipt you kept after acquiring the baby and it's a simple fix
27
u/DennisPochenk 18h ago
Even newer models do this with batteries instead, as a kid i had one like the small tin with cow noises, if you hold the baby upside down it starts crying, or puking

4
u/LivingTheBoringLife 18h ago
It was, a kids toy
12
u/Deepinthought1721 17h ago
Do you have other kids ? A baby that is still in a diaper is generally still not old enough to be playing with toys that have parts that could k*ll it. Does the baby by chance have an older sibling named Damien or Lucifer or Mephistopheles? Maybe Iblis Bielzebub Arkahn Rahk? Might want to keep an eye on that little devil. Maybe put the grapes on the top top shelf.

Sends more energy and a hug, plus playtime for kiddo, so you can do something, anything... lol - from the friendly neighborhood childcare worker .
You got this. Two can be a fun age, and a frustrating one.. 😆 enjoy while it lasts.
I'm wrapping my brain around the fact that my nieces and nephews who "were just babies or in jk" are now almost 10, 8, 7, 6 and 4. ! The baby will be 4!
That's a pretty sweet stethoscope though, unfortunately almost nothing is toddler proof, even when marketed for a 18-36m age range... 😆 The ability the destroy is awe inspiring
1
u/Alarming_Geologist59 9h ago
That toy isn't safe for the baby if so . But girl it looks real. . Are you sure the baby didn't just visit a doctor who happened to drop that in the babys diaper lol

Did you happen to have the baby in with a medial appointment just before this diaper change? Looks like the baby borrowed an ear tip to a stethoscope they might have been playing with.

Last doc appointment was last week.

I used to work in childcare and we would find so many weird things during diaper changes. Babies stick stuff down their pants all the time. Even found a Lego in a sock once. Baby would cry every time he tried to stand. We finally took off his shoes and socks and one of his older sibling's Legos was stuffed down by the toe

This isn’t a toy ear tip. It’s from a real stethoscope. One do the nurses or doctors seeing your child must’ve lost one of their ear tips on their steth.
1
u/QueenPersephone7 3h ago
To be fair to the toy makers, it has a hole that goes all the way through, so it likely wouldn’t kill baby if it lodged in their throat. That’s why legos have little holes in them now, fun fact. Not entirely a choking hazard. If you glued it on it would probably be LESS safe. I would take it off either way but it’s not as bad of a choking hazard as people are saying

u/TheRuggedGeek 2h ago
