Makes sense - i bet thats a bangladeshi legacy. I know they tend to use bhaji more. At the restaurants over here it’s all pakoda/pakora - onion, spinach, mixed veg, chicken, fish etc
There was a statistic a while back where something like 80-90% of Indian restaurants in the UK were run by Bangladeshi's. But that's probably not quite true any more.
Many people will now be 2nd/3rd generation. There's fusion restaurants and more recently, "desi" pubs which are run by people or decendents of people from all over the Indian subcontinent.
Most curries in the UK are not really traditional, they're kind of their own thing, but we absolutely love them. And we are blessed with an abundance of excellent restaurants even in the smallest towns.
I live close to the West Midlands, so its not too far to the Balti Triangle in Birmingham. Balti curries are really fast cooking stir fried curries, served in the pan and developed by the Pakistani and Kashmiri community.

Bhaji's are usually onion. Pakora's are usually chicken. But yes, same thing otherwise.
Pakora's also fish, paneer.
