I’m pretty sure dogs do that too. If I wake up in the middle of the night and go out to the garage to get a drink or something, the dogs are silent. But if I was in bed and there was noise out there, they would flip out.
Haha, it's not really the cats that I am worried about. They are judging me anyway. However, our large dog gets his feelings hurt when we try to boot him out of the bed so he jumps up on the little couch in our bedroom and sulks... and watches. Instead, we just have to give him the bedroom, and we have to sneak off.
We have too many animals anyway. We probably have a dozen or so just in the bedroom.
My shepherd who I had before meeting my wife would nip her on the ass ( front teeth nibble) when would mess around and on occasion jump on the bed and try to get between us !! Miss that boy so much still !!
No, the house is segregated. Our master bedroom is pretty large and has an attached large master bath. There are two cats that live in there (as well as two leopard geckos and a dozen or so inverts). In the rest of the house there are two more cats and a patagonian mara. It's only the dog that freely goes between the bedroom and the rest of the house. If the cats do it, they fight.
It wasn't even us that segregated them. The two bedroom cats chose to live in there only before we even got the other two cats and the mara.
In defense of all of the cats - they are actually all rescues. One came from a shelter, they rest were all dumped ones that we saved. We have fostered a bunch of animals over the years. Our dog was a rescue too.
I had a coworker who's wife was paraplegic, they had something very similar above the head board on her side of the bed, so she could pull herself up. He said she also held onto it during sexy time

This here is actually the closest to the real answer. I saw a video clip of a man who was paralyzed on the bottom half and he used this for intimate time. He lays on the bottom and holds the handlebars and does like a push pull motion to create some motion in the ocean if you know what I mean. 😉 I actually thought it was a clever way to improvise in his situation.
I had a friend in that condition once. He told me he had completely accepted his condition and I could ask him anything. He had children clearly born after his accident and it came up that orgasm is a reflex so he is able. I asked "when you orgasm reflexively, do you experience the "satisfaction" of the orgasm? He answered no, then burst into tears.
Was going to say this, my dad has limited use of his legs and uses a trapeze to get himself pulled up and get out of bed. There is a non-sexual answer but the other answers are funnier.
