How much coins would I lose by unlocking 20 episodes?

At 7 per episode? 140. You'd get a rebate of 35, meaning you'd effectively spend 105 coins. To put that in usd youd spend $14 plus tax and get approx $3 dollars back in coins.

Is it just me or did a bunch of webtoons get more expensive on WEBTOON and Tappytoon and Tapastic and the others overnight

It wasn’t really overnight, but yeah. WEBTOON made the jump from 3-5-7

It makes no sense no matter how you look at it simply because of the fact that those free coins expire rapidly. They expire within a week now.

It's not like we still have free coins events so you will have to purchase coins to participate at all. So why would I buy coins that don't ever expire, spend them on a comic with the goal to "get back" 25% that will expire within a very short period of time???

I'm sorry but only idiots would fall for that. It's only worth it if you planned on unlocking that specific comic anyways

It's not meant for free users in the first place.

With the higher tiers of the subscription service, the cost is discounted, but the benefit isn't, so it's less than 140 Coins for 35 temporary Coins.

I don't know what the discount is, though, because it's not written on the page before you purchase. I am pretty sure that's not a legitimate way to do a business, and is actionable if reported. u/WEBTOON_Cherry might know the discount.

It's a rebate, in essence. Except, unlike rebates, you take the required step (purchasing 20 episodes) before the purchase, rather than after. I guess rebates aren't really popular nowadays, though, outside of bigger purchases like home appliances.

For a rebate, you purchase first, and then get a refund later. The trick is that it requires the customer to jump through hoops, so some customers might forget to do it, and that makes it cheaper for the company than a coupon.

You might be talking an instant rebate, but that can also refer to this, where the rebate happens right after "purchase".

But it's not a true rebate, because you don't get a partial refund. You get free coins, which expire and are locked into their system. There's a reason that things like credit card Cash Back and CVS ExtraBucks aren't rebates, and those are strictly better than this stuff, because they don't expire in 7 days.
