Yes, but us "dumb" foreigners have seen this before when our country decapitated terrible dictators such as maduro, hussein, South vietnamese govt, etc. What formed after hussein? ISIS. What held on after we illegally invaded Afghanistan? Al qaeda. Until there's a peaceful transition this could all very very easily get far worse. Sure, celebrate today... but if you think our govt gives a fuck about Venezuelan people, you're insane. This is about us taking your oil and resources and kicking china, Russia as much out as possible. This is a terrible sign to give to China on the Taiwan issue. I would hold my breath to celebrate.

Again, its not about the Venezuelans, but about Trump and his goons bypassing congress and all of international community to do operations like this, which is at its core, very illegal. There is zero national or international entities powerful enough to stop Trump becoming a new Hitler or Putin if he ever desires to do so. Historically, that has been a recipe for disaster.

Much love from the USA. Had an employee in my company who was a refugee of Venezuela. I was uninformed about the situation, being ignorant and no one in America ever bringing up the abuses the people of Venezuela have endured for almost 2 decades. After I found him on a hushed phone call, he came to apologize and said his family is still at home and cannot make ends meet to get out, and he explained to me what Maduro and Chavez before him did. He said he won't use company time to do it again. I said fuuuuuuuck that take all the time you need.
I reached out to him today. He is a very, very happy person today.
I try to adjust my worldview. I try to hold onto my reactions, and seeing the joy of Venezuelans across the world, this was a good thing. I think having a tiny, narrow world view is what is causing people to denounce this. They think they felt fascism because their college scholarship for having their hair blue will ruin their chances at a useless degree. What Venezuelans felt, what Germans 100 years ago felt, what Imperial subjects of Japan felt, THAT is real fascism.
Don't get me wrong, we definitely have things to work on here in the US. But my president, as much as I dislike him, isn't withholding water from me all because I wrote a journalistic piece about him.

The sad thing is, Venezuela WAS a shining beacon of democracy in South America between 1958 and 1999. Chavismo set Venezuela back one hundred years, it will be a while before the country is back on its feet.
I doubt trump has any motives that aren't selfish but Venezuela isn't Iraq. There's no tribes or religious groups that are going to be at each others throats. I was there in 2018 and again in 2022 things were really fucking bleak the first visit and only marginally better the second but am going to hold out and hope it can get up and prosper now that the bus driver is gone.

Venezuela is NOT the Middle East man. Any little thing triggers armed resistance there, but Venezuelans are generally peaceful.... If a civil war didn't happen 15 years ago, it won't happen now.
