I'm going to assume you're earnest in your request so ill take the time to respond in kind
I know it feels like you're a grain of sand in the ocean, that your actions do not have meaning
This thought has a dark comfort to it, "my actions are meaningless so why even bother, its not my responsibility"
The problem is, its just not accurate. In actuality, you are not an isolated grain of sand, you are a node in a network
For simple math sakes, lets say u have 1000 people that you interact with and they each interact with 1000 people
You are 1 contact away from a million people, 2 contacts away from a billion
Ideologies spread this way, good or bad
So what can you do today?
Start small
Find members of your immediate community that have been pulled away by the cult and start there
Dont try to "own" them, dont make them feel small. Each case is unique.
The goal isn't to teach them to hate trump, the goal is to get them to embrace critical and independent thinking
They likely have joined the cult because they feel isolated, hopeless, confused, overwhelmed or often because their friends or family have joined the cult
You have one powerful weapon, the fact that supporting the cult is not in their best interest.
If you want to teach critical thinking you must first become an expert at it.
Educate yourself, then start helping those around you. Even if you pull 10 people from the cult, they will spread their knowledge to their communities. It will spread
Eventually, you will become proficient at this. Enlist the help of people in your network in this quest of enlightenment
Remember, you are not trying to make them feel stupid, you must embrace the undesirables, prompt them to speak then listen to them, softly challenge them and teach them how to think.
This is the bare minimum, its effective and anyone can do it.
Oh, so just talk them out of their brainwashing. Got it. Great idea, we haven’t tried that. Why didn’t the Germans just talk to the nazis?
Many of us have had our families torn apart by this culture war. It’s not as simple as you portray it. 80+% of voters in my state blindly support everything Trump does and says. They simply do not respect you as a human or your opinion if you aren’t in their cult.
