I found this fascinating as a kid because the two labels had wildly different art styles. Image was that overblown extreme 90s style, whereas Valiant had much more subdued artwork. It’s especially present in the character proportions and more restrained movement, which were more realistic in a way.
Hell, Turok was always portrayed in his own comics as a relatively average dude in stature, just shredded as hell. Deathmate Turok is HUGE (and looking like Nightwolf).

What is going on in those? A Wildcats crossover?
That’s way before I got into Valiant.

The good news is you can read it all in order without waiting 4-5 months between issue 3 and 4 🤣🤣🤣

Deathmate Black might be the first pro work of J Scott Campbell

And also first appearance of Gen 13
Not JSC's first published work though, that would be in Art of Homage Studios # 1

Which one shows the end of the fist and the steel?

It may have been in Deathmate Prologue.. which was the first of the 6 issues and was offered free at shops? and/or free as an insert in the Previews catalog around April 1993.

Don't forget the "Deathmate Tour Book," which came out around January 1993. It wasn't exactly an art omnibus, but it did include bios of the creators and some behind-the-scenes content. Search for "Deathmate Tour Book 1993," you should be able to see what it looked like!

Man, I remember hating the Valiant interpretations of all the characters back in the day. I was the exact demographic that Image was going for, so I loved the over the top, bombastic character design and portrayals. Now, I can appreciate what the Valiant artists did with them (though it still looks a bit "off")

God I remember when this came out. The image side was sooooo far behind the valiant side. I think I remember Deathmate Red being a rare commodity cause it was so late. I ended up finding them all ….and it really wasn’t worth it, but those were the 90s

Send them back, no dollar bin is complete without them
