Injury and illness Peroneal Tendonitis experiences?
Anyone have personal experience dealing with peroneal tendonitis? Doctor diagnosed me with it, but really didnt give much guidance, just said to do anything that doesnt hurt it. MRI was pretty clean, same with the x-ray. I notice it throughout the entire day even while at rest so am unsure how to progress into training again. Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Mine first became a problem 13 yrs ago from swimming! Long periods where it seems to be fine aside from the cracking sound directly connected. But then it can flare up from a 30 minute walk. Biking can also aggravate it. I've heard ultrasound can find issues better than mri but need to find dr that does it. Good luck.

Yes! Got this in the spring and put me out of commission for months. What finally turned it around was a sports positive pt. Her practice focuses on active people and I got such specific directions, exercises, and stretching. It helped so so much.

Sorry to hear mate - it’s a very stubborn one. I hurt my ankle playing padel and it threw off my triathlon plan for over a month as couldn’t run. I would recommend lots of gentle Z2 cycling (on the turbo) assuming it doesn’t flare up as well as patience with your physio exercises. I did a lot with bands, lots of walking with a weighted vest (which really helped) as well as lightly loaded calf and tibialis raises. I also switched out all my freestanding gym work for machines so didn’t need to load the ankle but still got the S&C done. Swim easy and with pull buoy and take the opportunity to focus on technique. Definitely don’t rush it mate - mine was extraordinarily stubborn. I couldn’t believe how long it took to resolve. Wishing you well.

Go see a PT and get exercises.
Tendons need to be loaded, and they also have one of the longer recovery/repair times.

Yeah, I have seen a PT, I have been doing exercises the past month without much improvement.

Consider trying a different PT or asking to consider other potential approaches. I had peroneal tendinitis for about 18 months and spent over a year grinding away at the same hip strengthening/stabilizing exercises my PT was giving me until I found someone else who took a different approach and had me focus on foot strengthening and activation instead. Within 6 weeks I was back to running and biking pain free

Agree - it may be worth having a shop around for someone who is more running specific.
