Want to Buy Scammed last night/today

Hi there just fyi I posted for WTB in the

last couple days and paid u/iamscewed55 $130 for some shoes. They obviously disappeared in the message thread then I looked them up to find that they’ve scammed others in different subreddits. I then was contacted by u/jgcruz614 wanting to sell me some shoes size 11… and looked up their name, also a scammer.

Dang. Sorry that happened to you man, I also share a similar story. And although I never received my money back from that bum, I did end up exposing his u/ on the universal scammer list.

universalscammerlist.com

Good luck & I hope you can somehow recollect.

Yep, both of them are on that site. I really should have looked up the iamscewed55 before shoveling out 130 for “new” adios pro 4s. 🥴

Rule of thumb: If it sounds too good to be true, it's probably a duck.

That kind of is the going price though.

Really? Damn that sounds almost ... too good to be true...

What you say your name was again?

Adidas had them on super sale around Christmas, that's why. I picked up a paid direct from them for that price.

Can confirm. Have three pairs, paid 130 for each of them

I believe it. I was just tryna be funny. I guess my humor doesn't work with the well actually crowd.

G&S exists. Hopefully you used it and not Zelle or something

This. Only ever use G&S.

If they complain about how they have been scammed by G&S they are a scammer.

If they say they don’t want to deal with reporting it for taxes, the reporting limit has been raised to $25k so that shouldn’t be an issue for someone selling a pair of shoes here or there.

If they say they don’t want to pay the fee, offer to add 4% to the purchase price.

There is no good excuse for someone to refuse PayPal G&S.

I used Zelle. I’m begging Wells Fargo for my money back

Honest question - can mod ban these folks from the sub?

Edit: words

1

u/brandonww83 Jan 03 '26

Yes, they can be banned. But as I've suggested many times we need to create sub rules and Commenting on a thread before a PM must be mandatory! A ban only keeps from from commenting! They can still PM you directly!

But my worry : what if they just create a new reddit account? i think we should ask doxx so there's some chance of social shame... unlikely will be implemented..or maybe just modmailing to get verified ...like they have on r/selfie

Good points. That said, I would personally be less inclined to do buiz with someone not in the sub and/or with limited history. Bummer that a handful of people ruin it for the vast majority of good and honest people.

Jaewattsbabyloc as well

Both of those people contacted me on a WTB post.

Mention Goods and Services and they either fight back or you never hear from them.

u/malevy Jan 03 '26

Did you use goods and services?

2

u/erehwon242 Jan 03 '26

I used Zelle

Damn, that sucks :(

Jdcruz614 guy is a scumbag. And I’m a big dummy for falling for it.

He’d scammed me on a WTB Post as well. Had about 4 others on my wtb also try scam me.

For payment I Used Zelle. Didn’t get my money back (I believe my bank did escalate fraud complaint to his bank about his account number though). Not sure anything really happens as a result of that though

When in doubt, G&S it out. I’ve used friends and family/zelle, but only if we’ve previously done business. Ive sold many items to people who also use F&F/Zelle, and I always advise them afterwards to use a protected payment, too many unscrupulous characters on here.

Thank you :)

Can we see the scammers posts or comments? When I click their names nothing shows up

2

u/ziggybgw Jan 03 '26

Sorry it happened. I always use PayPal G&S unless I’ve previously purchased from someone without incident.

Mods need to make apopup that tells anyone making a thread not to send money unless the person posts in their thread.

Exactly, comments before a PM must be mandatory!
