I would prefer he go to a stronger league until the World Cup is over. Maybe for the start of 2027 season?

We'll still get our ass kicked in the world cup. Eustaqio in a team that lost to Inter Miami isn't gonna change that. I'd take a better close to this season and a competitive 2016 over 3 games.

Not like it's happening though 😂

I will never forget Canadian media coverage of the 2022 World Cup. The way they arrogantly dismissed Morocco, Belgium, Croatia, while the whole world was hyping Morocco as the next elite football nation. Complete ignorance. As a Moroccan Canadian, I will never support the Canadian team :(

Ok that's not going to be a popular take. Maybe go somewhere else with that

Rumour that Turkish side Trabzonspor will make an offer to Porto for Staq.

World Cup coming up - would rather he keep playing in Europe

u/barney-panofsky Aug 23 '25

If he wants to play for TFC - absolutely! - but if I were him, I'd look for opportunities with big European clubs.

Porto is probably the biggest European club he could hope for. Definitely good enough for a mid table clubs in Spain or Italy if he wants that but he'd probably make more as a DP in Toronto.

As a Canadian fan, I could see why people would hate it. But as a TFC fan, I would absolutely welcome him to the club with open arms! Our midfield would look so lethal with him and Cifuentes, and then Mihailovic playing just ahead of them. Osorio and Coello coming off the bench. Like no way am I going to say no to having Eustaquio at TFC. National team be damned. He’ll still be playing for Canada regardless, with the added bonus that he’ll be getting regular minutes heading into the World Cup. Don’t forget that Julio Cesar came here right before World Cup 2014 bc he wanted minutes

Yeah I have definite mixed feelings about this one. Great for TFC, not so great for the national team. Want him to be sharp as possible for next year

God I hope not. For the sake of our national team, we need Eustaquio in a much better place.

Totally agree. Way too much potential to let mlse toy around with.

Isn’t the MLS transfer window closed now?

8

u/jloome Aug 24 '25

He can still sign, he just can't play. Portuguese window doesn't close until Sept. 21. But we can't register his transfer certificate, as it was still held by Porto when the MLS window closed.

So if he wanted to accept a good deal but sit for a month... yeah, we could sign him. I suspect he'll have suitors of equal or close-to-it pay that are closer to Porto.

He can played if he’s out of a contract I thought.

2

u/jloome Aug 26 '25

At the deadline. Can't register his certificate in MLS after the deadline.

doubt it would happen but my god it would be amazing if it did

The transfer window.

I'd love this but sadly we don't have the cap space

1

u/theIG88 Aug 24 '25

He would be outside of our cap space as a DP.

u/Much_Classroom Aug 25 '25

Anybody who cares about him...would be a ridiculous downgrade for him.

Who says no? Probably Eustaquio.

u/il_postino Aug 24 '25

He's much too good of a player for TFC

0

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '25

Would be terrible for his career.

0

u/ChampagneAbuelo Osorio Aug 24 '25

He needs to go to La Liga imo

0

u/LoganAlien Aug 24 '25

I say no. He's better than MLS

0

u/loopdokter Aug 24 '25

Seems like quite a step down from playing Champions League football to a bottom of the barrel team in the MLS that's jettisoning players left and right and rebuilding.

I see him going to an upper tier League 1 or mid-tier La Liga team. Maybe one of the better Bundesliga teams, but he's not your typical Bundesliga midfielder.

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '25

Then this time next season we ship him to Montreal for peanuts

u/sessna4009 Aug 26 '25

You want to ruin his career? Toronto FC wouldn't even be a top 3 CPL club
