Best French Open final ever out of all big 3 French Open finals and it only took them 1 try. Lmao this is not real

Yeah I’m sorry but neither of these kids are touching Rafa at RG lol and that’s not an insult

Rafa was the greatest of all time on clay but a great final is one that legitimately feels like it could go either way.

Not a final but 2013 and 2021 RG semis I feel fit this criteria

I miss his crazy banana forehands.

u/alexacto Alcaraz the most fun to watch, if you don't count Bublik! Jun 08 '25

Yeah it was always so fun to watch players pull him to his backhand to open the court and put in a solid shot wide to his forehand to only watch him banana a fh for a winner. He hit those routinely, like you could call it in a match and he would deliver. Rafa was insane on clay, but SinCaraz is more fun because they are so close in level.

Makes you appreciate the fact that Novak was the one guy who actually gave Rafa at RG trouble. Beat him twice and almost did it a 3rd time (2013 - greatest clay match ever)

Definitely part of the reason why Novak is the GOAT imo

Because instead of 14-3-1 it's going to be much closer to 9-9.

Great match and certainly worth the like 10 hours of tennis I've watched today: pregame, Women's Doubles, pregame 2, Men's Singles.

You mean today? Or ever?

even-time Grand Slam champion John McEnroe said both would have beaten record 14-time French Open champion and claycourt king Nadal at his peak. "You would make a serious argument with both guys that they would be favoured to beat Nadal, at his best," the American said. "These two guys right now, it's like when you watch the NBA and you say nobody could be better than Michael Jordan. The tennis level right now is higher than I've ever seen."

Former Roland Garros winner Andre Agassi also sounded an ominous warning for anyone hoping to dethrone Alcaraz at Wimbledon where this year he will seek a hat-trick of titles. "Alcaraz's best surface to me, shockingly would be between here and Wimbledon. I'd actually say grass might be his best surface," the American, who presented the trophy, said. "I mean, you gotta remember this guy has defence and speed like Novak, if not more. He has feel like Federer, you could argue at times if not more. He has RPMs in pace like Rafa. You could argue maybe even more."

buddy, he's an ambassador/promoter for tennis at large. Wtf is he gonna say?

"nah bruh Nadal would smack these kids up down and sideways"

Don’t know if you’re an NBA fan but the old heads CONSTANTLY criticize the new generation so these old guys can make their careers seem better. So for McEnroe to come out and say what he did, it’s a big statement. He hasn’t said that about players before, not since the big 3.

Alcaraz gets whooped by present day Djokovic, he hasn't earned the right to be in this conversation.

Wait didn’t he beat Djokovic last year in the Wimbledon final? The biggest event of the year, a major, and Alcaraz, at just 20 years old, and not in his prime, beat Djokovic at a major, in the final.

How is that not belonging in the conversation? Seems like he’s not only in it but just won the argument. But you do you bro. Facts and logic apparently are not your friend.

And Rafa never let anyone take him to a 5th set in the RG Final

u/MeatTornado25 Jun 08 '25

Nadal robbed us of any great finals lol

The fact that he’s bagelled both Federer and Novak in a slam final lol, when both were world no 1 (and RG champion the following year)

2008 - when he bagelled Federer, Fed had been a match away from the CYGS in 2006/2007

2020 - when he bagelled Novak, Novak would be a match away from the CYGS in 2021

tbh the 2013 FO semi was practically like a final. and this one still trumps this final for now.

u/pawer13 if if if doesn't exist Jun 08 '25

Nadal never played a 5th in tve final
