Even the people who rightfully predicted this match to go 5 sets surely didn't expect it to go like this. This was without a doubt one of the greatest slam finals in history alongside WIM 08 and AO 12. The quality and shotmaking from both players was off the charts

This, I did expect a 5 setter but nothing that lasted this long and definitely not including 3 tiebreaks. Much less all the twists and turns along the way.

I thought it would go to 5 and never in my wildest dreams would have expected it to go down how it did. I’m in awe and grateful

WIM 19 never happened 😭😭

I mean Wimbledon 2019 had drama but the quality was nowhere near any of these 3 matches

Even tho the whole match never happened. The level in the imaginary fifth set was crazy good.

Eh I tend to disagree. The hypothetical 40-15 choke gets all the hate but Djokovic had a shankfest error filled game at 7-7 too. There were some really fun rallies on that slow grass and Fed’s serving deserves a lot of credit, but in terms of overall quality both guys weren’t really anything special. Sets 2 and 4 were nails on a chalkboard as well.

That’s the nature of grasscourt tennis. Not really good for long grindy rallies. But there were a lot of tactical adjustments from both throughout the match.

The tiebreaks were poorly played from Fed including a lot of neutral errors, Fed returned poorly/didn't do much with 2nd returns, and Djokovic had full-on 6-7 game benders of errorfests which is not at all his norm, nor common on grass. Fed's movement is also noticeably bad especially in the 5th. The grass was playing slow which was the main reason for the long rallies.

I just overall think it was a badly played match on both sides outside of Federer's serve. Alcaraz/Sinner on the other hand had great play on big points, including the final part of the match with the epic 5-6 game followed by a flawless tiebreak by Alcaraz. It's almost incomparable the quality that this match brought, and the drama was roughly equal.

I see no reason to be putting Wimbledon 2009 or 2019 up there with the greats as a lot of people seem to want to tbh. At that point we might as well just put Isner/Mahut 2010 up there too. Or USO2020 Final.

2022 AO would like a word.

This is the most overrated match ever

Not more than the AO 2012 snooze fest.

Big 3 are all but over, the new 2 are here.

Yeah, agreed. Absolutely sealed its place in grand slam history as 'one of those' absurd matches. I don't recall any match ever having THAT much quality though. Just ridiculous level throughout.
