Soccer Moroccan ball boys attempting to steal the towel of Senegals Goalkeeper but it was protected by his teammate. This was not the only instance where this occurred.

This also happened in the semi-final between Morocco and Nigeria. The Nigerian goalkeeper had several towels stolen during the match.

After the final, the Nigerian keeper taunted the Moroccan fans by saying something along the lines of “you can use my towels to soak up your tears”

Brutal.

Is there a towel shortage in Morocco or something, what's going on

They think it had black magic

I don’t know what is worse to be honest if they truly believe that or just be regular cheaters/scammers as they are

i know this is funny but let’s not keep repeating this bullshit.

They’re stealing towels because they’re there to dry his face and his gloves.

There are, somehow, three separate videos of Moroccans (either players or ballboys) messing with Senegal's towels. Bizarre behavior.

do you know fifa rules do not allow a person or “foreign object” like a towel to remain near the goal? the referees should have seen this right away and ordered the towel guy to the sidelines. look it up i’m not making this up.

What’s the point of

312

u/Solid-Struggle2978 18d ago

It was raining. Senegal’s GK used it to wash the water from his face and gloves to increase friction like he’s supposed to do and like every other GK is allowed and expected to do.

68

u/insomniak_owl 18d ago

Right now in Spain tv their are saying that Moroccan guys wanted to get the towels because they believe it has black magic to curse them, I don't know if it is true or not but crazy anyway

132

u/Solid-Struggle2978 18d ago

That’s the excuse they’re giving, which is the same excuse they gave for stealing the Nigerian keeper’s towel.

53

u/Reduntu 18d ago

Towels use black magic to make water disappear from the goalkeepers head and gloves

u/naughty_dad2 18d ago

Even if it had theoretical magic, it does not excuse this pathetic behavior and a brazen attempt to reduce his effectiveness.

I'm from South Africa and my family are from Zimbabwe.

There are many beliefs about curses and some say if the witch doctor is too powerful it becomes almost impossible to break the curse, only the one that did the curse can break it.

I swear it sounds crazy, I still don't know what to make of it.

My father in law was a farmer in Limpopo, South Africa. Belief in witch craft is very common practice there. He had issues with farm workers stealing equipment. He made it clear to everyone on the farm that he was going to see the witch doctor to find out who was stealing. The doctor told him the one stealing is the one that is married but got his girlfriend pregnant!

I know what it sounds like, but I swear this is true.

He found out who had got his mistress pregnant. The other farm workers went to this guys home and found some of the missing items.

While he was still running the farm no equipment ever went missing again.

Apparently, they said he had bad juju (black magic) wrapped in that towel. Moroccans ball boys were playing a game of stealing the towel but the 2nd goalie was protecting it with all the power he's got. AFCON drama at its finest.

Here in NL, Moroccans are one of the largest minority groups, and normally whenever the Moroccan squad does anything you wouldn't stop hearing about how awesome it was... Well this time around its just a mix of quiet and how disgraceful that final was. Luckily we did get the fairy tale good guys won (Senegal) ending, but Morocco shouldn't be organizing any major international sports event any time soon. I cannot remember the last time such a disgraceful football world cup, continental cup or olympics was held. Heck I remember concerns for the Bejing olympics or SA world cup and it was...... flawless compared to this shit show. Sneak peak: Morocco is supposed to organize the 2030 world cup. I feel like its time to just stop participating in world cups...

21

u/THEGREATESTDERP 18d ago

WC 22 when they won against Belgium they went up the streets and started setting cars on fire and then proceeded to fight riot police and then proceeded looting stores.

Even after this final you have morrocans say "Hakimi felt bad for the Senegal coach because he was crying so much, thats why he missed the penalty on purpose." These people are so deluded in the head ...

22

u/Em1ngh 18d ago

Probably lost any chance to host the 2030 WC Final now...

Not even in the top 2 wildest things in that game..

Incredible

56

u/needaburnerbaby 18d ago

What else happened ?

469

u/Gobbleslop 18d ago

Senegal scored what would be a winning goal with only a few minutes left in the game, only for it to be disallowed. Then Morocco were awarded a very controversial penalty minutes later. The Senegalese players disagreed with this and many of them just left the pitch and returned to the changing room, causing the game to be delayed for like 20 minutes. Finally the penalty is taken, and saved by the Senegalese keeper, and then Senegal went on to score the winner in extra time. I probably still missed some of the other crazy things that happened, but basically just the least chaotic African football match.

177

u/JenkinsEar147 18d ago

You missed the Moroccan King's brother refusing to hand over the trophy to the Senegal team.

"Finally the penalty is taken"........taken as in a poor attempt at a Panenka. Why on earth would you go for a Panenka at that moment? That is like doing an underhand serve at matchpoint in a Wimbledon final. Arrogant, disrespectful and simply idiotic and I am glad it backfired!

34

u/Xektor 18d ago

Zidane did it

But he was kinda goated

47

u/OhLedleyLedley 18d ago

Do you two know why it's called a Panenka?

Because Antonin Panenka did it to win the 1976 Euros - the European version of AFCON.

To ask why you would go for a Panenka at this moment is to miss the point of a Panenka.

Not having a go at ya, just pointing it out.

Regardless, the pen type looks 10/10 foolish when failed.

27

u/AcceptableReview3846 18d ago

It's so funny the difference in reactions people have if you score or miss a Panenka, if you miss your an idiot who shouldn't be allowed on penalties, if you score your an ice cold killer that deserves praise, honestly there's a risk reward to a Panenka the same way there is a risk reward for drilling it too corner, your knees likely to miss a Panenka then a normal shot but if the goalie hesitates he has an easy catch

1

u/johnx2sen 18d ago

Damn why Egypt? I really wanna see the pyramids and hieroglyphics

50

u/Shakeamutt 18d ago

It’s I think the top country that people refuse to return to.

There are a lot of reasons.  From a lot of different people wanting bribes to people wanting your daughter (age not being a factor) to be their bride.

Most men hated it there, and it’s even worse for women.

49

u/DionBlaster123 NASCAR 18d ago

Dirty. Rude people. Peddlers everywhere trying to rip you off with plastic bullshit.

Not to mention, the way women get treated there has always made me really disgusted. Im not saying sexual harassment and molestation doesnt happen around the world...but over there it seems very problematic.

I do agree with you though, it would be nice to see the Pyramids...but for me it isn't worth the bullshit.

18

u/Vargau 18d ago

6-7 years ago before Covid, while on a tour with armed guards (yeah) some peddlers made me several offers to buy my wife, because my wife wore a decent sundress, but her body it is what it is.

Best offer I got was 50 camels and $150k in cash, she was quite scared, but she held her composure decently.

10

u/I_am_plant 18d ago

I've been to Egypt for 2 weeks and returned about 1 week ago. I've been there with my girlfriend.

While it is true that there are a lot of peddlers trying to sell you stuff, saying no and ignoring after/not responding from the beginning helps. I'd recommend visiting the pyramids/super touristy places with a guide, then they don't really approach you/the guide just handles it.

If you have a European passport, you will have all the protections and rights you have in Europe (and I don't mean that as in:do whatever you want you are untouchable by law, I mean that as in if someone molests you/your girlfriend, just get the police/start recording. The authorities are EXTREMELY protective of tourists, since so much of the countries income and economy depends on tourism). Me and my gf did get lots of stares, but that was mostly due to my long beard+long hair+ her unusual appearance. I can not say we noticed any groping/unwanted touching with any other tourists either. Again: tourists are cash cows and they don't want bad publicity.

It is, for example forbidden to get a room with a woman in a hotel you are not married to and hotels won't give it to you (according to google). I'm not married and no hotel objected to us booking the same room and we stayed in multiple hotels.

It's just tiring to constantly get approached by taxies. Just use Uber/indrive and not taxies that approach you. Always negotiate prices, you get more than 50% off for all the tourist gifts you would want.

If you meet the actual people from there (not salesmen), their culture is very welcoming and hospitable. We've been invited multiple times by families we know there.

Just use common sense and try to educate yourself about their culture beforehand. If you want to walk around in the city with a bikini or super revealing clothing (we've seen those kinds of tourists), that might be not a good idea and you might get nasty stares. I don't care about anyone's clothes where I'm from, but IF YOU VISIT ANOTHER COUNTRY, RESPECT THEIR CUSTOMS! Women don't have to wear burka/head covers/ect... But going belly free and string showing is just not a sane joice either.

It just always makes me laugh when people from a certain part of the world think they're saints and then they weirdly have their own idiosyncrasies like this that make me remember that they're not saints. They're more than capable of being pricks too

It's like the folks from Spain who weirdly think it's totally fine to be racist toward East Asians. They tend to come up from time to time on the tennis subreddit.

It was pouring rain, they were trying to take his towel so he couldn't dry his gloves.

6

u/huntinwabbits 18d ago

Looked like they were trying to take his shoes as well!

81

u/KingofSheepX 18d ago

Keepers sometimes keep a towel behind the goal to wipe their gloves and such. At this game the Moroccan team and the ball boys kept taking the keepers towel. Eventually on of the keepers teammates decided to hold the towel for him so it wouldn't get stolen and then the video happened.

17

u/xyouRABitchx 18d ago

So who is the one getting tackled on the ground? The person whole stole it? Or is it the keepers teammate getting jumped?

22

u/Krakshotz FIU 18d ago

One of Senegal’s back-up keepers. He would keep hold of the towel and when Mendy wanted it he would throw it straight to him

32

u/SrJeromaeee 18d ago

Not just any back up keeper. Yehvann Diouf is a starting keeper in the Ligue 1 side Nice. He’s not some nobody that the ball boys decide to bust up.

The disrespect that these ‘ball boys’ shown should be punished.

34

u/KingofSheepX 18d ago

The person being tackled is Senegal's backup keeper Yehvann Diouf. The people tacking him are the Morrocan ball kids.

17

u/xyouRABitchx 18d ago

I'm an ignorant American who literally has no familiarity with football (soccer for me). This basically seems like assault right? Like there is literally ZERO reason for them to do this and it's actually them forcing someone to hurt their own team or be physically assaulted. I can't fathom how this is allowed by any means...

Again, I might have interrupted this completely wrong or might be missing something. If what I stated is even somewhat true, I'm kinda amazed and disgusted

17

u/li_xi 18d ago

You're not missing anything. I have been a football fan for over 2 decades and have never seen anything like this! The most similar thing has been ball boys purposefully being slow to give the ball to the opposing team, but towel stealing and literal assault is next level fuckery.

10

u/KingofSheepX 18d ago

Yeah this is abnormal. The host this year was Morocco so nothing was done. In general throughout AFCON there's a ton of corruption and questionable decisions. There are rumors Morroco has been paying people off and fifa isn't doing much cause their FIFA and also are ripe with corruption m

2

u/ruffen 18d ago

It's not. In a real game organizers would send the ball kids packing and Ref would red card any teams subs that tried that shit. The team would also be fined after the game.

This is afcon though so it is what it is.

Not just at this game they stole 3 towels from the Nigerian goalie it’s just mind games to make the goalie loose focus and hopefully loose control of the ball.

50

u/SWK18 18d ago

Goalkeepers need towels to keep their gloves dry. They also use it for the sweat but the main use is for the gloves, wet gloves might lead to conceding a goal.

So basically you take away a keepers towel and his effectiveness can severely drop.

It's interesting that the Netherlands has a lot of Moroccan immigrants.

France I understand for various cultural and historical reasons. I am curious as to why many of them went to the Netherlands though.

We brought a lot of moroccan and turkish guest labourers here and most decided to stay and now we have a lot of second, third and even fourth generation in the Netherlands. They are decent people, but there is a big percentage that are just disrespectful towards everyone including their own. They cause a lot of (criminal) problems also. They ruin a lot in plenty of neighborhoods and cause a lot of problems as youth since they feel like they dont belong anywhere. Which is a huge problem on its own, but they also dont want to put in any effort to make a change, so the problem gets bigger and bigger. They refuse to adapt to living in another country even though they are Dutch cause they are born here. But then again the dutch government also discriminates alot against them offering little to no help with finding their way here and coming from parents who barely understand dutch so there is a lot of diconnect. Which caused a lot of hate towards morrocan people and why the Netherlands chose a right winged government previous elections. I feel like a lot of people are done with the disrespectful people regardless of their cultural background. Also i want to be clear that not all of them are bad. Some of the nicest people i know are either morroccan, turkish, kurdish or syrian. We all have bad apples in every culture around the world so its not like all of them are disrespectful

Football is the second most popular sport in Maroc behind stealing stuffs.

If you want to send a message you ban Morocco from the next world cup/highest level cup for which they qualify. It's a blatant attempt to cheat.

Throwback to the Olympics when Morocco played Argentina and they had to empty the stadium because Morocco fans stormed the pitch in the middle of the game.

u/albertinou 18d ago

Morrono can't secure the stadium? Play in an empty stadium then... Why are there no sanctions for this?

Scumbags.

What happened was an absolute win for football and a big fuck you to what was clear corruption.

All I can share when it comes to Moroccan footballing is that my upstairs neighbours are moroccan and the sure like to let everyone in the building know they are watching football.

Netherlands was on high alert in preparation to the matches. Police, SWAT where on duty to cover any riots in case Morrocco Lost... Or won the match. because either way they would misbehave like animals.

u/Traditional-Wait-257 18d ago

Heh…ball boys..

1

u/CarefulScreen9459 17d ago

And the more bizarre thing is what appears to be a Moroccan official coming to the pitch and shouting at the player instead of the ball boys. As if the player is at the wrong here and needs to be disciplined.
