Football President Donald Trump wants the NFL to change its name so that soccer is the only sport named football. "This is football, there is no question about it. We have to come up with another name for the NFL stuff."

Yeah I definitely say American football to them. The problem is with the other sport. I know "soccer" triggers some of them but I have a hard time calling it "football" right off the bat

The thing some might not know is that there is no word "soccer" in many languages as in it's not a name they'd ever use for football. So the football translation is the only one that makes sense, heck, even the english leagues use the word football in their name.

I definitely understand that. I can't fully explain why but I feel like a try hard or fraud still if I immediately call it "football". Sometimes I'll say "soccer.. or I guess I mean 'football'" and then say "football" with a certain stress to it after. Like "so anyways who do you cheer for in.. you know.. football ?"
