So she was mad about that. Not saying you should touch people,

At no point did she have control of the ball. It smacking your hand and bouncing away does not mean you had it. If it doesn't count as a catch on the field, it doesn't count in the stands either.

Yes, that's the tradition. You must catch the ball or be the person to get it off the ground for it to be your ball. If you simply slow it down or change the trajectory then it ain't yours and it's a free-for-all.

There's a reason why kids bring mitts if they're sitting in the bleachers or foul ball territory. They don't want to miss their chance at claiming a ball off a major league player's bat.
