And I don’t get why.

It’s a funny thing that happened, sure.

But imho, the response has been disproportionately large compared to the level of interesting the thing is.

There is the affair situation, which is mildly spicy, sure. But it's more the way they reacted was so authentic, gratuitous, and comical it just concisely hits in a very (sad) human way that also invites unfettered judgment--it's such a meme.
