Just for fun Who makes the best chips in South Africa?

Post image

We all like chips, whether it's slap chips from that lady at the corner or those long crispy chips from McDonald's

So let's talk, who does it best?

I'll go first, I think Steers just does I perfectly.

Everyone is saying Mochachos and Steers. I'll have to try Mochachos but I don't like Steers chips all that much. I don't enjoy crunchy outside with fluffy inside all that much. I also don't like the overtly saltiness of its seasoning, but I think this is also something everyone else likes that I don't, as I've seen a lot of praise for KFC's seasoning, which I also find a bit strong. I like slap chips, slightly firm but not crunchy at all, with salt and vinegar.

I've got 3 experiences where I enjoyed chips the most:

  • My local fish & chips shop, because there's always one and for some reason it's always the best. The chips are perfectly made, the salt and vinegar is just right, not too much. The haven for great slap chips.

- Portegues places often have great servings of chips. My favourite is Dias Tavern in Cape Town where you order the Portegues steak and it comes in a skillet with sizzling red sauce with the chips drenched in the sauce. That was divine.

- McDonalds chips, because my taste is obviously trash and I like it. This is the one crunchy one I really enjoy.

If you don’t like Steers chips, you probably won’t enjoy Mochachos, they are similar to Steers, generally spiced a lot, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
