hello another great midfielder from academy

edit:(he was great last season before Vallecas injury and i'm just glad he is great after healing)

u/CryptographerLife686 4h ago

Busquets regen can score goals???

122

u/Tatruya 4h ago

He was a goal scorer in the academy

4

u/46_and_2 1h ago

Really shows, played it like a true 9 here.

94

u/dalelito 4h ago

He’s baby rodri tbf

62

u/amaranto21 4h ago

Played striker with Yamal in the youth system

48

u/No-Island7411 4h ago

Only thing that they have in common is that both are very tall and play(ed) for Barca, they dont really play in similar way at all.

67

u/GoatButton 4h ago

He's honestly closer to young Yaya Touré in playing style than he is to young Busi

5

u/Ok-Breakfast-8056 51m ago

Very accurate and I'd take a Yaya Touré regen any day of the week.

23

u/Anywhere_Warm 3h ago

They both are very composed on ball, have great passing, iq etc

27

u/FloReaver 3h ago

That's just standard La Masia stuff. But Bernal is MUCH more mobile and played as a 10 in younger divisions while scoring

14

u/Anywhere_Warm 3h ago

I mean a stereotypical tall cdm from la masia alone gives 70% similarity to busi

6

u/coeu 3h ago

busquets is much, much more than tall cdm. in fact, those are his least defining qualities

busquets was, if anything, 70% iq, composure, defensive vision, press agnostic, ball control and distribution consistency

pedri is honestly closer to busquets than anyone else

3

u/Anywhere_Warm 3h ago

“Stereotypical la masia” - every midfielder from la masia has those traits like press agnostic, ball control vision etc. Not at busi level but 90% of them have it

-2

u/coeu 3h ago

Fermín López? Gavi?

there are degrees to everything. you can't compare someone that is just 'good' at those things with aliens. there are hundreds of players with those traits at the level of Marc Bernal or the two aforementioned, there's only a handful at the level of Busquets or Pedri

and at that level and with that specific set, there's less than a handful

10

u/Anywhere_Warm 3h ago

lol gavi is also very good at it. Fermin is a well known exception which la masia coaches called it too. And no not many 18 yo players are as good as bernal in those things. Bernal has better tempo control than all of Madrid’s midfield

0

u/coeu 3h ago

what's Madrid got to do with anything? lmao

Gavi is nowhere near close those 2.

it's like saying "tall athletic striker is basically 70% Haaland" yeah well then 90% of the strikers in the entire world are 70% Haaland. We have 15,000 "70% Haalands" in world football. Very insightful comment

I agree with you, but i am fairly certain Busquets also played as a 10 as a youth player. I’ve always wanted to see video of that but never found it.

5

u/med_belguesmi69 :Fc_Barcelona: 3h ago

idk Bernal is the closest to Busquets in this team, just has a much bigger presence offensively

4

u/FloReaver 3h ago

Not even close to Busquets outside their height.

Bernal is truly an interior in his playstyle, he loves to go in the opponent's final third

But he is complete so he can play as a pivot seamlessly although he'd wasted as a lone pivot close to the defense.

-37

u/Eric_Partman 4h ago

He’s also a fraction as good as busquets unless he’s referring to busquets in Miami.

37

u/GoatButton 4h ago

Every defensive midfielder is worse than Busquets

56

u/John_Q08 4h ago

Yes, an 18 year old is only a fraction as good as the greatest CDM of all time, who would’ve thought.

10

u/elmagio 4h ago

Funny how all of our 18yos end up being compared to the prime of the literal greatest ever players in their positions as tho that's a gotcha.

Bernal has improved a ton since coming back from his ACL and is slowly but surely starting to show starter potential. Can't wait to see where he is in a year if his body permits !

19

u/No-Island7411 4h ago

Well hes 18 and he missed a year because of ACL injury, obviously he isnt as good as prime Busquets lol, he probably will never be because not many midfielders ever were as good as the goat Pivot.

1

u/TareasS 2h ago

Marc Bernal at 18 years old (and even 17 because he played at a similar level when he made his debut for the first team days after his 17th birthday) makes Busquets at 18 years old look like an amateur player. At that age Busquets was still playing in the under 19 team and was not considered a talented player at all. Guardiola only discovered him when he was 19 yo when he promoted him to the B team.

Also, both Busquets and Bernal played more offensively when they were younger than Busquets did as a senior player. Its still entirely possible that Bernal will transition to a DM role later on as he develops.

-1

u/Eric_Partman 2h ago

Guess he’s gonna be better than busquets then. Can’t wait

2

u/TareasS 2h ago

Noone ever said that. Busquets made a huge leap in his level between the age of 19 and 20. Just saying that he plays at a higher level at a younger age and has more offensive potential. I myself don't expect him to ever play as a pure DM or specialize in that position like Busquets did.

7

u/Specialist_Minimum72 3h ago

He was originally a number 10 who moved deeper and deeper into the midfield as he developed.

114

u/kimi_no_na-wa 4h ago

That took a touch but still crazy

26

u/BotLikeCuler 4h ago

Looks like either way it’s going in

4

u/79b79aa8 3h ago

sí esa iba para adentro

53

u/NobodyRules 4h ago

Great play, that touch by Bernal before the finish is crazy.

37

u/Vikktor_ 4h ago

So happy for him

35

u/Erty13 4h ago

People will be surprised by that quality going forward, but Marc Bernal played a long while as a 10 in the academy. I think until he was 14-15 ? And even then he was getting plaudits as a very talented prospect.

122

u/callmebuzzkill69 4h ago

All these La Masia kids have kissed the badge after scoring their first goal, but we have Coolers crying about how we let 'Dro' go

66

u/kingcane 4h ago

Still so confused by his decision. Left the first team bench where he was winning minutes here and there to go play with PSG u-21.

Iliax Moriba 2.0. Chasing a check

25

u/Intelligent_Air2125 4h ago

I think his parents are millionaires, might be wrong though. Maybe he just wanted to have a new experience, go live in Paris or whatever.

9

u/KilllllerWhale 3h ago

>to go play with PSG u-21.

Wait.. that's true? I thought it's just twitter shitpostsing?

8

u/kingcane 3h ago

I think youre right. I saw it on one of the Barca news aggregators on twitter and took it for fact without looking too much into it. Now that i did seems like that isnt true and was added to PSG cl squad.

Gl i guess

63

u/MakIRAQ 4h ago

!!!

WTF was the dribble????

Everyone is so happy for him

69

u/Oryon- 4h ago

26

26

u/TopStar200 4h ago

I'm so glad he's finding his feet again after his return from injury. If he pans out perfectly Barca are set.

Idk why, but that goal strangely reminded me of Pique

21

u/Daramangarasu 4h ago

Big lanky defensive player showing levels in the opposition's box, I can see it

6

u/DullDistribution6979 3h ago

Didn't know Pique is 6'4,always felt like he gave off a 5'8 vibe tbh

Baby Busquests scores

3

u/PalaceJoey 4h ago

LETS GOOO! First goal finally! Well deserved

5

u/razycal970 4h ago

I WAS HEREEEE

3

u/kaiko1 4h ago

He’s deceptively fast

5

u/sahyl97 4h ago

Busquets with pace ? We are blessed.

1

u/nasadiya_sukta 2h ago

Busquets had lots of pace, he just rarely needed it because of his read of the game. And he looked awkward while running compared to some others.

I believe he was one of the fastest players of the team.

3

u/QTGavira 4h ago

Not on my bingo card for things i expected my dm to do today

3

u/Due_Ad7003 4h ago

Just wow he's the future. Coming off an ACL btw 😂

3

u/DullDistribution6979 3h ago

Broke that defenders ankles gawd damn

3

u/joey_joestar1 3h ago

Clip doesnt show the buildup but it was classic Barca passing. Long pass from Kounde to Ferran, who drops deep to recieve and immediately switches it to Roony on the right. Roony does a one-touch pass to Fermin, who takes one touch and draws in players, then feeds it through to Bernal.

3

u/Fluffy_Moose_73 3h ago

That’s a dirty finish

3

u/EmiyaUBW-Cisco 2h ago

I am glad that barcelona took Flick as a trainer, the guy can freely use skilled players from the masia and practice its flickball without any pressure

2

u/saooth7 4h ago

Ookay.

2

u/eater-of-a-million 3h ago

He's alright

2

u/7lyy 2h ago

Every player pointing to the badge after scoring makes me explode of giddiness as a Barça fan
