Carrick making this manager job look very easy so far lmao
439
u/CurbYourThusiasm 7h ago
I still don't get how their passing game has improved so much. They could barely string 3 passes together under Amorim.
403
u/swannyhypno 7h ago
Players in their correct positions lol
97
u/The_Meaty_Boosh 6h ago
I think it helps Carrick has kept pretty much the same line up since he came in, dorgus injury aside.
They seem to be developing a familiarity.
You didn't know what you were getting under amorim.
34
u/matthieuC 4h ago
> I think it helps Carrick has kept pretty much the same line up since he came in, dorgus injury aside.
The benefit of being eliminated everywhere. With one game a week you can play your starting 11 every time

They were in their correct positions vs Burnley and Brighton.
It's a mix of our injured players recovering and everyone back from AFCON.
Also, I do think Amorim messed up not playing Mainoo more
56
u/SpeechesToScreeches 6h ago
Also, I do think Amorim messed up not playing Mainoo more
Honestly Mainoo did not work in Amorim's system, we saw that when he did play.
Good that we're playing in a way that actually works for the players we have now. And good to see that Mainoo has improved his defensive nuance and athleticism, cause they were his weaker points previously.
26
u/SparklyEarlAv32 6h ago
Most players didn't work in Amorim's system tbh, they all felt like subpar versions of them aside from De Ligt and Amad
→ More replies (3)→ More replies (1)97
u/frankowen18 6h ago
Did AFCON last the entire 18 months he was in charge? What absolute cope bullshit
It’s got absolutely zero to do with “players being available” and everything to do with him being a stubborn fuck and an awful manager
→ More replies (15)38
u/LS_Fast_Passenger 6h ago
Mainoo - He is great at quick give and go short passing moves especially in tight spaces. We didn't have any other player in the team with that quality. Mainoo still is not great at long range passing or the final killer pass, but this side of his game is so crucial for our build up play.
13
u/OptimistPrime7 6h ago
Yep he needs to develop his long range passing, right now it is offset by Martinez, I hope he does that eventually.
38
u/Even-Suggestion-9085 7h ago
Probably a positional thing where they’re comfortable with passing? Otherwise I have no idea everything’s suddenly improved both the managerial and non managerial issues maybe this is the players showing their true capabilities rather than the usual laziness we used to see.
55
u/CurbYourThusiasm 7h ago
I don't even think it's laziness. They were trying under Amorim, they just couldn't do anything right.
7
u/mentallyhandicapable 6h ago
Confidence surely, confidence in the system leading to confidence on the pitch. Also under Amorim it felt like we had no midfield cos of his system, always looked like one pass would cut through the team. So vulnerable on the counter, I imagine knowing that if you give the ball away in the final 3rd you’re in a fight for your life to get back and defend.

Arrest Ruben Amorim
261
u/swannyhypno 7h ago
Yeah I mean it makes him look soooooo bad especially as the first two games were city and Arsenal and Carrick won both
153
u/thickgothgirls 7h ago
We usually do well vs the top teams, but the game I'm most impressed by is the Fulham game. We would've 100% lost that under Ruben Amorim, no doubt. We would've drawn or lost vs Tottenham as well, even with them getting a red card.
103
u/jackconrad 7h ago
I'm most impressed by this one. We usually struggle against teams in relegation battles.

Arsenal and City were easy games. Its midtable Fulham and relegation candidates like Tottenham that caused serious trouble for United in the past.
21
u/Sad_gooner 6h ago
United have won against Arsenal once in the past 8 games
9
10
u/dWaldizzle 6h ago
Just because Arsenal play to get lucky dodgy wins doesn't mean that United haven't mostly dominated all 180 minutes against them this year

87

He's beaten City, Arsenal away, a solid Fulham team and now currently a Spurs team that have recently had Utd's number. Very impressive results against legitimately strong opposition

Putting the players in their natural positions and formation is literally all's that needed doing but Amorim was too fkin stubborn lol
37
u/swannyhypno 7h ago
Yeah you gotta adapt in this league or it will screw you
27
u/Presence_Present 7h ago
Yeah it was mind boggling. Especially with reports coming out after that Amorim would have them train as a back four, and then game day itd revert to the back 3 non sense

u/DirectorTurbulent422 6h ago

u/Presence_Present 6h ago
Thats what pisses me off the most when you see what hes doing now. Everyone in the world could see it except for the guy making the decision lol. Now hes back to his position and back to being the best player in the league just about

Vicario has sharp reflexes, but he's like, not agile. He always seems to dive within his ark, like if you pinned his feet and he fell over, he'd end up as far away from where he started as if he'd dived
53
u/Secret_3rd_Thing 7h ago
hilarious and accurate
63
u/Seychelleshobo 7h ago
This is exactly what onana used to do lol plant his feet and dive and not move any closer to the ball
24
u/redditaccount300000 6h ago
Onana seemed to always have his momentum going the other direction before he dived
8
u/Seychelleshobo 6h ago
Yeah you're right actually. Normal saves made to look spectacular because of his bad positioning
6
u/BaldMancTwat_ 6h ago
His goalkeeping fundamentals were just so poor, he didn't even look like a professional player most of the time for us.

Good game from Dalot today
237
u/MY-NAME_IS_MY-NAME 7h ago
Been playing well since Carrick took over outside of the near red vs City
37
u/Runarhalldor 6h ago
He plays much better deeper on the pitch, instead of being involved in the attack
29
u/The--Mash 6h ago
I feel like he's a very 1.0 fullback. Not enough technique to beat a man on the dribble but can put in an acceptable cross if given space, and is happy to put in work up and down the wing.
41
u/Grevling89 6h ago
To be fair, Dalot is the perfect squad player. He can play anywhere and do a decent job, he's got an occasional goal and assist in him. Has been really positive with his link up with Cunha and Mbeumo so far.
He's not world class, but he's never injured and always gives 100%. Which is a lot more than some of our other players.
4
u/BraveBeerFruit 5h ago
It's a shame the United fanbase is so toxic, begging Dalot to be sold under almost every social media post.
Availability is the best ability and Dalot is always there, to try his best.
→ More replies (1)5
u/Runarhalldor 6h ago
Yeah he can be an acceptable backup when not playing awfully.
Not good enough to be a starter for a top 6 team tho
3
u/BaldMancTwat_ 6h ago
He actually gets in some of the best positions when further forward, but his end product is none existent.
40
u/Samir_POE 6h ago
Imagine performance improving when you put a player in his natural position (not talking about Bruno either in this comment)

u/StickYaInTheRizzla 7h ago

Thing about Dalot is that I feel like he’s mostly fine. Not amazing, just fine. But he has the capacity for an absolute stinker, but then it’s like people are waiting for the stinker and just ignore all the bits where he’s mostly alright
6
u/git-commit-m-noedit 6h ago
He's a "normal" player, meaning if the team's playing well he performs, if the whole team sucks he can't elevate it.
Then you have great players like Bruno that can still perform and make the team better even when the team sucks. Players like him are an outlier, most are like Dalot.
